  1. Went out to the farm again today. All the chocos are kicking into reveg mode. These are going to be monstrous. They are starting the season with stems thicker than my thumb. There is this one pheno though that is going to carry the F5 generation.

  2. Interesting read. I dont work with autos. It's actually one of the traits I select against. To me, this plant can reveg, so it's not an auto. Its photoperiod. Just because it's a recessive auto, does not give it a place as an auto. We cant start using our recessive traits as marketing points. They are recessive as in do not express, so the consumer will never come across them in his/her plants. Work the next generation and get that auto trait to dominate then you can call it an auto. Only once a plant flowers in 24/7 is it an auto imo.

  3. It's awesome to have good genes bred in our local environment. These are going to be sought after.. As a Outdoor grower especially..

  4. @Bakstein420, ah man that sucks! Hope the remaining plant will do it's best to compensate for the loss. I agree with @afternoon blazer. Also love autos. I find they have their place in cultivation but I guess they aren't the best choice for everyone. I prefer variety over quantity. Plus as an outdoor grower I can enjoy the fun of harvest several times a year. But yeah they are more finicky than their bigger photo-sisters. I'm going to germinate mine soon. T-3 days. Oh one big upside for me is that in the Cape PM only comes towards the end of the season. It's good to have some bud save in the jars before 'PM season' starts.

  6. So I decided to grow some autos outdoors to replenish my stash while I mainline the Ethos ladies. I grabbed a 5 pack of Fastbud's C4 but lost 4 of the seedlings to heavy winds. The remaining survivor went in the cupboard to help her get established before facing the outdoor forces. I slowly introduced her to life beyond the wall till she started pushing pistils recently.

  9. Looks good, I assume you've gone up to 2ml/L now? You could slowly start to increase to 3ml and then shortly after 4ml - I found no need to go above 4ml/L during veg - but that was with fish mix. During stretch (so from when you flip the plants to flower) you can run a low dose of grow and then start introducing bloom. You then stop the grow completely after 3 weeks and run just bloom until harvest. You will always use way more bloom than grow or fish mix.

  10. You can buy ladybugs, but not sure you can do so in SA. You can get swarskimites though, they're predatory mites and will eat some pests.

  11. Yeah bro . As mentioned above theres many variants to consider. But remember to get a good wet dry cycle going to allow the roots to travel for water. Better to under feed then over feed.

  12. What up bro @Bakstein420. loosing 4 out of 5 must feel like a kick in the nuts. Especially since u got some fire genetics. . But the 1 lady looks good bro. Atleast the colour is starting to push through too. @DamDave autos do get abit of a bad rep. But i personally love those things. Its too simple and easy to grow. Especially since all u gota do is feed. Yield might be on the low side. But then i just run multiple plants.

  13. Yeh 100%, well said, i forgot to add that the market for Autos was created under the 24/0 schedule back in the day. (That was the main hype) As soon as it can veg at 24/0 hours there will be growers in the market saying its not a Auto. Any Fastbuds strain can be grown at 24/0 without issues, in my mind that is a Auto.

  14. please elaborate on this.. i am of the opinion that an auto is an auto and will not react to the hours of light it gets... it sprouts, it flowers, it dies.

  15. Sorry about the language I'm gonna be using bud's but here we are. Bee's are in danger of becoming a thing of the past. Fucking us, humans are the problem. Farming practices, hell we need it if we gonna keep feeding the masses but unfortunately to the harm it causes to the little things like bees, ladybugs, migrating bird's, parts of the UK otter's for fucks sake. Who would have thought. OK enough of the fowl, excuse the pun, language. That's a whole new thread. I rent on a veld and fynbos propagation farm and I notice how keeping growing whatever plant, as long as it is in harmony with nature, it attracts it's natural wildlife. We have little buck chowing on our lettuce, the falcon picking out the fattest gerbal, the owl hooting all night as it keeps the veld mice at bay, a bee colony and the occasional ladybug and other weird bugs. If you have space to move your plants outside when and if you can you should research plant friendly bugs. You would be surprised. As with our nursery, I'm trying to keep my grow as natural as possible, growing outdoors in the ground surrounded by useful herbs, veg and sacrificial plants. Indoors I'm on the search for the mother soil that needs no food. Saying that, indoors get moved outside as often as possible. Sorry for the rant, Keep it natural is what I'm trying. 16. Good Morning. I posted this topic in the Pest section but not getting any response. My apologies for double posting. Can anyone identify this guy? I found two bigger ones that were more orange brown with spots, almost like a ladybug, but took them off before I could snap a pic. This one is much smaller, probably a baby of whatever the other ones are. Friend or foe? Thanks.

  19. I did eventually get some Boveda packs post Lock-down thankfully and am curing with those. These humidity stones certainly aren't a tool for curing unless you cam spend ALOT of time checking RH. I placed a large quantity of water once and it totally made my herb wet again - yikes. It would be nice in a small smoker pack to reinvigorate old herb

  20. @Totemic Yes, the more i look into this the more i realize we fucked up. They shouldn't have been labled autos. We flowered them under 18/6 and i thought its all cool. I honostly thought the autoflowering gene was the dominant gene and breeding with any autos would result in autos. I dont want to makè something cool and not be able to keep clones. Those 290 seeds are sold out and gone and the weird part is the reviews coming in are all positive.

  21. Could of been a nitrogen tox cause those leaves very green but could be strain so without a pH reading pre watering vs PH reading of runoff there's no easy way to say, cause the flush definately helped but seems like washed out other nutrients too or ph i blocking uptake if you gonna treat with Epsom add egg shells too for calcium & keep a close eye for a phosphorus deficiency if u over do it

  22. Depends on grower, strain & individual plant some are more thirsty than others, you'll get a feel for each ones requirements + every grower has their own beliefs lol Personally speaking I usually water with 30% of pot volume every 3rd day with feeding on every 3rd cycle (once weekly) and i havent had any issues if the seedling is under two weeks ill only water with 10% pot volume and only add more if I see plant needs it When trying to figure out nute strength best would be to use an EC pen - typically seedlings can safely take solution with etc of 0.5 - 0.7 until they 2/3weeks (I prefer to use castings or used filter coffee) - Vegetative stage u can start pumping ec up to 1.3-1.7 - flowering 1.3-2.0 - you could wing it without an EC pen but for the price they definately worthwhile

  23. As for my (what I am assuming is Kandy Kush due to the smell of her) test subject. She seems to be doing ok. Please advise if you can see anything wrong or if you think I should be doing something differently to any of my plants

  24. Hey buds, all well I hope. I'm busy with my first auto grow and have been doing a lot of reading up on them. Seems auto's have a bit of a bad rap and not experienced grower's first choice. What is the reasoning. Is it the lazy grower's choice, because they don't produce a good yield. Trying to learn a bit more about strain's and the plant in general. Sent from my DRA-LX5 using Tapatalk

  25. My first three plants are coming along well at the end of their second week. I am busy brewing the LABs and ordering buckets etc. Does anyone know where I can get 20 or 25 litre black buckets with lids in Cape Town that don't cost an arm and a leg? I am likely going to order from Jhb and ship because it appears that Jhb has more competitive prices. I'm making a banana tea for flower, and will feed with an SST kelp blend for veg. I'm getting excited to try all these yummy organics and see what results I get. The sun was out for a few days... nice.

  30. This might just, be the first reveging auto mother ever... This phenomenon might never before be documented... But this is the nice thing about the forum... all will be revealed in a few months time... I learn new things every day.. on the forum and off... 26 years ago when I had my first joint I never for the life of me thought that there is so much to learn about the plant... Not even talking about breeding...

  31. @swum Its clearly marked F1. Call it an recessive auto if you want too.
    1 point
  32. @swum The 49-56 days is the time it takes the flowers ripen after switching to 12/12 light. Its like a countdown. Yes its fast, but thats not what we are talking about.
    1 point
  33. yea, that link @swumsent has some pretty interesting arguments full of words like "Semi-Auto" and "fast" "crappy genetics" and it would seem that not alot of info is out there about them. but they seem to have a place, or at least they are gaining popularity. i mean, i would love a fast auto flowering high yielding plant ... but in the same breath, i can get a Fast photo flowering high yielding plant instead
    1 point
  34. Guys dont get me wrong im not saying its impossible, just a paradox when u have a revegging Auto. Nature is crazy and not a lot of research done on this stuff. Perhaps as @swum mentioned this where the "fast" classification can be used.

  35. went to trusty google and came back with some ideas... seems my thinking of breeding the auto gene/ all genes is flawed... seems there is no ON OFF button when it comes to genes... they can mix and change. so where your auto flower can flower in 20 hours of light... but will reveg from 21h kind of vibes... very interesting... breeding the auto gene to express itself @18 hours and flower in conditions from 18 hours down... but if shes a keeper you could push her up to 24 hours and take cuttings like you are doing. i can only imagine the sheer volume of plants and phenos one would go through to find such a plant.
    1 point
  36. @CreX Im not sure, i usally harvest the mothers. I left this one alone and it revegged.
    1 point
  37. @swum u can run them at 24hr light cycle to see which carry the gene and which are just regular photoperiod plants like some of the parents.
    1 point
  38. Any auto can reveg under the right conditions. Not flushing out all the nutrients during the last weeks of flowering leaving the plant weak. Not harvesting the buds but only carefully picking out the seeds.
    1 point
  39. Photo x auto crosses will start and finish flowering a little earlier than the photo parent. Yes, they will flower with a little more light than the pure photo parent would. They are usally a bit bigger.
    1 point
  40. yea i get that you are talking about Auto trait. and depending which trait is dominant is the way the offspring will turn out. If the Auto gene is dominant over the photo gene you could experience 75% auto and 25% photo in F1, from there you select the best male that flowers under 24h and the best female that flowers under 24h, mix em , and if you chose the right autos with the dominant gene and not recessive gene, then your ratio could improve to something like 93% auto and 7% photo in F2. so you are right in saying you would need to get to atleast F3 before you could reach your 99% Auto outcome. i was just disputing crossing a photo and auto result in only photo offspring
    1 point
  41. @swum, not necessarily, even F2 reg Auto seeds will be subject to different phenotypes. it also depends on so much. was it an auto male that you pollinated a photo fem? or was it a photo male that pollinated an auto fem? depending which of the plants has the most dominant traits will depend on what traits the offspring gravitate towards. and what you are referring to is called Hybrid Vigor... most bagseed tend to express rapid healthy growth and are known to have this vigor. well bred plants from reputable breeders also exhibit this trait, but it does not often express itself in later generations starting from F3. successful back crossing with the original parents can often bring back this trait in your offspring.

  42. No no don't try it . Just to be on the save side, when I said PM I mean powdery mildew. Last season I had to deal with it and it wasn't fun. And last season was also the first season that I had to water in the evening too, as it got so hot during the day. I think I got powdery mildew on some plants because I watered in the evening. This season I'll get bigger pots, only water in the morning and if necessary I'll do a bit of defoliation to hopefully prevent PM in future.

  43. My dogs are the worst! I wasn't done building my makeshift barrier yet then I come outside to find the one inside my 100l pot and 2 autos destroyed, happened twice but luckily now they can't get inside.

  44. Update time... @Dank check it out bro... The exos chillin in some coco here on the east coast... Remember sending me some fresh cuttings straight of the moms. We didn't have high expectations but agreed it was worth a shot seeing as you were already sending me other gear. Well bro... Roots roots roots. So 420sa this is proof that if you want to donate a few cuts to other members you don't need to go thru the whole cloning process and special packaging. A ziplock bag and some wet leaves is all you need.
