I'm seeing the plant is struggling with a hot medium. Only way out is through and she will 'grow' into the soil. Some plants just dont like a lot of nutrients, while others are just sluts...5 points

Hello guys, I am a new grower and I need some help identifying a deficiency. I am using https://just-cannabis.co.za/craft-cannabis-soil/ for my growing media. I am growing moby dick & cookies autos. I am in week 5. Thinking of top dressing with worm castings this week. Anyways, I have been seeing some yellow spots on the fan leaves and they are slowly getting to newer growth as well. Please help. Thanks3 points

Eish. Soil, I think there are more soil queries and problems on this forum than anything else, yet people continue to grow in soil. lol There are soo many variables and unknowns, it makes it difficult. If that is 3 weeks for an auto, you're going to have a very small plant and yield won't be great. I have never used soil from Zootly back when I was using soil. What sort of PH is your run off? What is the PPM / EC from your run off? Have you used any nutes or just plain tap water?3 points

Greetings Fam So I've been around the weed scene for a while now, trying to keep track of whats going on and up to date with the latest laws. I must say, Cape Town has a BOOMING cannabis community and I wish I was closer to there to actively contribute to the scene. The thing is, even disregarding the lockdown, a lot of us can't travel at leisure for personal interest just like that. Gauteng and JHB have their hydro peeps that are growing some absolute fire as well. These places I've mentioned also have like proper cannabis stores and such, with a multitude of secret smoke shops, cafes and dispensaries. Now I do know that KZN (Durban and surrounding areas mostly) have their fair share of spots, but it's nothing when compared to the likes of those in CPT or the accessibility of the spots in JHB. We do have 1 dedicated grow store that I know of (not saying there aren't other based in KZN) but our Canna community just doesn't feel the same. What I would like to see is more community organised Cannabis events that are brought about by the community of growers that are confident enough to host such an event, and it would be awesome if those events can touch base in Durban more often than the likes of the CannaExpo and such. There are many things that can take place at the event but I guess the main aim would be to better connect the network of growers in KZN and hopefully help those that have the means to grow but just don't know how - because lets face it, growing is complicated if you starting off from scratch with just a seed, soil and a want to grow your own. The event should ultimately promote locally produced, quality products to show everyone that the companies in SA know their stuff and can give you the same type of products for a lower cost. Information online can be very misleading and it sets a lot of people on the wrong path from the very beginning. I've met so many people in Durban who want to grow, or who are growing, but are just doing things wrong because they don't understand the basics. For example, not knowing that it's better to compost organic waste and then use the composted mix, or not knowing that your roots need oxygen as well. So yeah... I don't know if what I've said makes complete sense, but i hope you guys get it. For what it's worth, I would be interested in helping in such events or anything in future if anyone reading this does actually take action and get this off the ground (I would if I had the means). Just browsing the subforums and decided I'd leave this here as it seems like the right place.2 points

Even with a pack of 3 or 10 seeds, it's still a lucky packet in terms of phenotypes. So some of those seeds could be fine with more nutes than the other seeds. Autos require everything to be on point, if you stunt an auto it will affect your yield. Not really beginner friendly.2 points

And the last one is breaking ground, so that's 100% germination rate. Congrats @Bay Seeds2 points

I did research awhile back regarding CO2 in the grow room, what I gathered was that if VPD (stomata rated) and Temps ( 28-34) not in range you just wasting money. CO2 enrichment comes last after we able to control all other factors. However I have no experience. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk2 points

Wait, you lost me. You want to know about growing some mushies in your tent to increase CO2 and want to do this yourself because of the costs involved in purchasing the bags? Well, firstly growing mushrooms isn't hard per say, but you need to be very sterile and have additional equipment to pasteurize / sterilize the medium(s) you are working with and you do not want any trich at all as that will fuck you over big time as trich is a very aggressive colonizer and will cause tons of issues for you. Trich is something which is not uncommon for cannabis though, it is contained in a few of those mixes which are promoted as helping improve plant health etc. It is included in that black liquid, forgot the name at the moment... Will come back to me in a while and a few other products. Unless you have a separate room to get the bags started in which you can thoroughly clean and let the mycelium fully colonize the medium before putting it in your tent. Growing mushies isn't necessarily expensive once you have the equipment, really just the medium which will be required to be replaced. Not sure if all strains give out the same amount of CO2. What about cooling as you want to keep the air exchange to a minimum from inside the tent to outside the tent and that makes extracting hot air out pretty much impossible. Got a link to the video?2 points

@CreX Thanks for the advice my dude. I had one mounted in the top corner...think the way that I mounted it might have broken the fan...will have to investigate a better mounting solution. I have already made some changes with the fans tho. They are gently blowing through the tent with minimal interaction with the plant where as previously, it was directly oscillating through them. Currently I am running the Samsung LM301B Full Spectrum LED Grow Light - 450W. It is currently 60cm above the canopy. I already love this forum & community. Happy growing2 points

Well done bud.. and congrats on the new babies.. We should be able to compare grows as we have germed at the same time. Good luck and green thumbs bro..2 points

This is on my bucket list, once I finish all my biobizz nutes. My mind is blown every time someone lifts the lid for a pic of the roots. Crazy growth2 points

So considering the amount of threads we have on the forum of people having issues with soil, I was wondering how the majority of the forum members feel about a beginner starting with soil. Should a beginner grower start with soil, or should they rather look at getting started with coco or hydro? This is more applicable to indoor growers, although I am curious!1 point

No worries, happy to help with what I have learnt in my short time. I find there is so little out there sometimes (especially in saffa land) and to find your specific grow medium + nutes, + XYZ and to compare is then difficult. The Lemon juice works really well and Baking Soda for PH up works well too. (used it the other day for the first time).1 point

Hey guys I have started growing Iron Lady could anyone tell me if the attached is normal , it’s just over 3 weeks of growth. It’s autoflower, I’m growing her indoor , under a 1000w led light, current distance from light is 70cm. I do have extractor in the cupboard. Haven’t put my fan on it yet.1 point

Looking good, some solid advise so far. Keen to watch the grow1 point

So my tech-nerd side got to me a little bit.. Here's an update picture taken from my Raspberry Pi Cam w/ humidity and temp at the top (numbers are inflated because sensor is right next to light, just waiting for my mount to come next week). I have an extraction fan and then 2 clip fans on for 12 hours each, light is on 24/7 but I can control the on/off schedule from my phone when the time comes :) My third seed has passed away I think, she sprouted and grew her small 2 leaves last week but since then hasn't made any progress at all. Will give her 1 more week just incase1 point

I would say go with autos that have a solid write up from the breeder. That's why I love fastbuds. You get so much good info from their site on every single strain they sell.1 point

I really wish we had a "dab bar" where they have all the gadgets and you just bring your own herb.1 point

@TheUltimateNoob not sure if you checked the 420 infusion evening they do every now and then in Bellair. https://www.biltongandbudz.co.za/event/420-infusion-evening-roaring-20s-edition/ I haven't managed to attend one yet, but hoping to catch the next one.1 point

Looks like a hot soil issue. If you mix a bunch of stuff together like that it should ''cook'' for 2 to 3 months before you plant in it. It's a clever idea marketing wise etc...they just forgot/ or didnt know to tell their clients about how long it takes to prep the soil.1 point
-
You only grow outdoor? If so, do you use pots or in the ground? I agree, it's definitly economical in the long run. Going organic is really a way of investing in the future for your whole garden, if you're really into it, aswell as investing in yourself. You mentioned that one can really run into much bigger problems with organic than with synthetic grows, however building a thriving symbiote and some real fertile soil will make your grows seem effortless, it will be "just add water".1 point

@SkunkPharmThink its a good idea, believe many new growers would benefit from such a thread. Easy and manageble way to start your journey down the cannabis growing rabbit hole. An inexpensive way to get their toes wet, without the complexities and technical equipment of dwc and coco. They can grow their first plants and there after decide where they want to take it- soil, dwc or coco.1 point

lol i will just ride out the storm, hopefully get something on the other side1 point

Will watch the video later when I get a chance to. Is this for the mycelium or for using yeast? Pressure cooker is one of the pricier pieces of equipment, this can be used to sterilise the medium, a smaller pressure cooker will simply take longer to sterilise all the medium as you wont be able to fit as much inside. If the mycelium is sufficient to get upto around 1500ppm CO2 then it could be a cost effective way to achieve this as I believe purchasing and using a CO2 canister is not cheap and does not make financial sense.1 point

Also looked into this a while ago... Like @PsyCLown said once you figured out how to grow mushrooms it's fairly easy. But I am not too sure if you'll be able to maintain all growing parameters if you put the grainbags/jars into your growtent.1 point

Yes money is something we need to consider, maybe one day we can approach a more permanent solutions. But for now, we scrape pennies. think I need to re-answer your HOW MUCH YOU SPENDING question. Anyways i'm actually fortunate to say the least. All the pasteurize / sterilize equipment you've listed above leads me to think this is nowhere near as simple as I thought it was. I did some forum searching and this particular topic had many people in stitches as to the costing modeled by something so simple ''they claimed'' (in the US) . Excuse my ignorance. Shouldn't believe everything you hear right. But then there are other methods but i have no clue as to the amount. But a good indication of how long it would last. This one involved 5 gallon bucket (closed off system) airstone in -airtight pipe out for distribution of CO2 4 - 6 cups sugar 1 1/2 Gallon water 2 tablespoon yeast last 20 days, how effective, who knows.1 point
-
Fascinating concept, but I wonder if one would maybe rather use yeast do generate CO2 in their grow room. There's a ridiculously over-priced product that does this kinda thing: Link I bet one could make a DIY CO2 generator of this kind at a fraction of the price.1 point

Nice boooi, and what about the lights? What are you running yo? Welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay! I wouldn't be terribly concerned about that damage at the moment. I think the okes nailed it with fan damage. I would get the fans mounted into the corners of your tent and have them oscillate. You don't need gusts of wind blowing past them the whole time. A gentle breeze with good extraction is key.... Air movement. Stagnant air is the enemy because plants deplete the C02 from stagnant air very quickly.1 point

Cool man, I also didnt have the best harvest when it came to indoors so i switched and havnt looked back, but I do continue to use organics outside because its economical if you have a few plants1 point

I see what you mean here and I've seen guys growing DWC and really doing some amazing stuff, no doubt about that. The reason why I wana grow organic is because it will stand the test of time. It is the knowledge that comes with it that I desire. I want to know about microbes, bacteria and nematodes and all the other living things. I believe, even though being not so skilled, I'll get there faster if I take the right steps. I've got some background with synthetic nutes, not only with cannabis. I feel at the end of the day the best for me is going to be to plant straight into the earth and growing organic will add to the knowledge one needs when cooking up some nice living soils. Creating your own mediums and amendments is what it's all about, for me.1 point

Lmao, yeah bro.... I don't think this strain is a heavy yielder though Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using Tapatalk1 point

Thanks for your response Not on all the plant...just the ones closest to the fan. The others, if they have, has minimal damage. I have had those containers laying on the ground full of water but not with a fan on...will give that a go. As to my tent setup, I am running in a 1.5m x 1.5m tent with a 300mm scrubber with a 6inch inline fan. Currently only two of the 4 fans are on (one on LED & one on the ground, a little bit elevated now), I figured I will switch on as the grow progress.1 point

You have those damages all around your plants? For veg you are very much on the dry side. Put a saucer full of water in the tent and point a fan on it. 15% more humidity would be better. For flower 42% are sexy. 4 fans inside the tent... air movement is good! How big is the tent and what ventilation you use for the tent?1 point
-
Thanks, make sense. There is a fan just behind those to...see pic below. I have now elevated that fan and tilted it to be blowing just above the canopy. TBH, I dunno how many fans I should be running, I have 4 in the tent, 2 is switched off, 1 on the ground and on on the light.1 point

Howdy bro. Ur babies are still babies. U can even dim down that qb for the seedling stage. Save some power and reduce temps if u like.1 point

Yeah I feel you bro. Although I will admit, there has been more events here in Durban based on what you've said... But the whole vibe around it is full of uncertainty and I feel it's just a bit dodge because like, security, the kind of crowd, and the fact that weed is sold at a lot of these events, so like what about cops anymore... There were 2 spots (I was comfortable at one of them) that I could go to that weren't really far from me but bro, they were still selling weed to the patrons, so who knows what the hell is going on... Cops knew about it, and nothing... It's just becoming a legal way for people to do illegal things and it depends on the tips situation with the cops (if you know what I mean) - which is why I haven't really gotten involved or started anything (besides not having the expertise of event planning). It's part of the reason I chose to start growing my own. Everything that isn't set in stone just depends on a bunch of corruption here, whereas where there is a good community (like CPT) cops like kinda don't have a problem because there's an understanding I guess (from my knowledge - although I could be wrong because I've never lived there) Hopefully this post will generate some interest. This is true, and yes it is an achievement, but a simple 2-sided leaflet at a proposed event could be enough to give everyone that attends the basic knowledge for cannabis growing - in the same way we learnt how to grow that bean all those years ago. I mean, if people stop wasting money on cheap things that don't work, and save for things that do, it would make a big difference. And it doesn't necessarily have to cost money - for example we could teach people how to compost properly so that they can use their own soil, how to accurately identify male & female plants, stuff like that. This is what I hate the most, honestly. People ripping off ideas... Like at least give something back to the guy you got the idea from, lol... But yeah I agree, I may contact some people, or just try to plan one with a member from here, who knows!1 point

My bruh I had this exact thought after seeing your comment on the Zootly cannabis cup group. Firstly, I completely forgot about Zootly to begin with. Had a little look around their site, read a couple diary posts, and saw that they are based in Cape Town, like other industry founders like The Haze Club and Vape Store etc. The way you feel about Durban is the same I feel about where I stay. I claim JHB as my zone just because at the time I had been working there, but I'm actually based in Centurion. Their are tons of stoners here, but I can't say their ever has been a cannabis related event in this city (at least not in my adult weed life or that I'm aware of). We did have one Cannapax store though Just did some research and I see that the last time a cannabis event in Centurion was attempted was by The Dagga Couple in 2016. Link Further, also just read an article on the 420 cafe in Randburg (about 45mins drive from me). So I suppose one can see why I feel a little stranded A good start I would think is right here on the forum. My entry into the cannabis industry started here, and my meeting of the JHB crowd started with meeting and getting to know some members here. There are not many places without dedicating significant amounts of time to learn the basics of growing anything. I mean, all we really did in school was that one bean germination experiment using the 2l bottle in like Grade 4. So if one thinks about it, to achieve a successful grow with no previous experience in growing is actually quite the achievement (pats self on back). The way I see this snakey snake world work, I wouldn't be surprised someone rips the idea to try make a quick buck. This concept is your baby now @TheUltimateNoob, thou must owneth doth precious. If you really want it, send it to the universe and it may just come knocking.1 point
