Indoor perpetual grow veg lights

Hello all.

So I have decided to start an indoor grow. Here's a list of items that I've obtained:

  • 1x veg/clone/mother tent (1.2mx0.6mx1.8m)
  • 1x flowering tent (1.2mx1.2mx2m)
  • 6" and 8" extractor fans
  • 6" and 8" carbon filters
  • 480 watt led grow bars (3500k) (flowering light)
  • Pots, PH meter, Propogation chamber etc etc

I know I've left out alot of the finer details but this thread is rather in finding perfect vegging lights.

Assuming I have a strain that flowers for 8 weeks, i would like to vegetate for 8 weeks if possible (or less). The lights I'm looking to get to veg from clone are Eurolux LED Grow tubes 9w (2ft). I want to spread out about 14 of them staggered in the 1.2mx0.6m tent. Thats 14x9 watts for roughly 4-8 plants (126 watts). The lights will be able to be lowered etc. Would the weak vegetating light and then extremely strong flowering light make a huge impact on the plants? Maybe when putting them in flowering I will gradually increase the wattage over a week to 480watts? Anyone have experience using those tubes?

What is the price on one of those tubes? And you need a whole fixture built for it and the led power supply... It sounds quite intricate!

I have just recently bought LED flood lights from ACDC electrical for my veg area.

I have a larger 2.4x2.4 veg area and I only need 2 of the FL-150-CW lights they offer.

@under R400 for the light and it's vegetative growing capacity, I feel it's a solid buy for a veg area light.

1 would sort you out good and proper, and all you need to do is plug it in.

Or 2 for legendary coverage at still a pretty sweet point of under 800

@CreX Thanks so much man. So let me give you the full idea.

I want to take that 1.2mx0.6mx1.8m and basically split it in half horizontally by putting a counter/table in it. So essentially it's divided into two equal parts of 1.2mx0.6mx0.9m. The top will be "breathable" in sense to allow air to flow through.

The top part I want to put in two lights that could keep two mother plants in veg while having a propagation chamber next to it too. At the bottom I'll have the space to veg under those tubes.

The tubes aren't too expensive, I have a family member which works in the industrial lighting industry and get me them for quite cheap. The housing is also easy to get hold of. I get your point about it being really intricate. I was abit worried that those flood lights wouldn't be enough but I'll definitely check if we have some in stock. Just a question, does the 150 in the name represent the wattage? Also the colour spectrum, 6400k?

@1000Hills Nursery dude Thanks for the note. I'd definitely note the tip of not flipping them for a week to get used to the light. That was my thinking. Thanks for the confirmation

@Saurus

I agree that the 2ft lamps are not a good option.

Also you want to split your tent into 2 halves for extra veg space. Sounds good on paper but your plants in each half are going to very quickly outgrow their space. You will need to take clones and clones of clones very often to maintain a manageable size to keep up with the perpetual especially because you have a small tent to flower in.  Are you growing from seed or do you have strains at your disposal?

@Saurus I agree with @1000Hills Nursery you will run out of space Pronto Pronto.

And yes... The 150 in the name is the wattage... From the wall it's exactly 150 aswell so that's nice, and this model is in 5500k spectrum

I crex, could I possibly please have a link to this light, I think I also saw some light from acdc less wattage  in 3000 +k , would that also work as a veg/supplemental light?

They do have some leds in 3000k, but only 50w versions - so not really worth it imo.

Im also interested in this light as a supplement, could it be this one? https://www.acdc.co.za/products/220-240-150w-cool-white-led-alum-flood-light-ip65?variant=20859630485581

This is indeed the right light... I have one in my flower tent currently as I need more lighting there and it's all I had to spare...  It puts out decent amounts of light, but I would keep it for veg use only and use a more sophisticated light for bloom.

Contact an express dealer and I think they are on special for R375

Thanks for the reply guys. This is helping me alot figure out how I'm going to run it. So the idea is to eventually have two 1.2mx1.2m tents which will be purely for flowering 1 strain at a time (4-8 plants on 12/12) with a 480w led quantum bars.

@1000Hills Nursery thanks for the response man. So the tent would be split in half just so that the top half could keep max 2 mothers going and a propagation chamber next to them, and underneath is purely veg. So mother gets clones cut and put in propagation for about 2 weeks. Then moved down to veg chamber for about 6 weeks while being trained/cropped etc  not to get too big. Then moved into the flowering tent under the 480w. If I need to use a scrog or just do some good training/super cropping etc. I will know when I use the strain I guess.

The plants will also be vegging in 5L pots before put into 20L for preflowering and flowering in the bigger tent.

@CreX The lights I was thinking of using are2x or 3x 50w flood lights in a space of 1.2mx0.6x0.9m. I'll attach fotos. +-R150 each

Thanks again oaks

I rate those Lil 50w will work great in your tent

Im really a big fan of these cheaper lights for veg - they do the job really well, and iv used flourecent tubes and flourecent bulbs and incandescent lighting and HPS and MH and LED bulbs and spot lights.... They work to an extent... But we're mostly all more expensive than this acdc light overall

And still this FL-150-CW is way better than the others for veg, except MH... MH rocks veg! But at 550w from the wall for a 400w fitting, VS 150w from the wall acdc... It's a hands down open book test brotha

@Saurus

I like the idea of a little prolongation area in the top section of the tent for clone domes as indirect light and warmth works best for successful rooting.

This tent I have is purely for genetic preservation and renewals of moms. These plants get renewed every 3-4 weeks.

IMG_20200610_141345.thumb.jpg.abcafe1234cd3763039fab828f525357.jpg

When I ran tents only I took cuttings of my veg plants before flip. I then grew those clones in the veg tent. 2 weeks before the flower tent was ready for harvest I took new cuttings from the veg tent. Kept the cuttings in the dome elsewhere in my house where there was ambient light at night. I then flipped the veg plants in the veg tent to get a head start and moved them to continue doing their thing in the flower tent when the tent became available. That would make the veg tent available again for the freshly rooted cuttings. So in other words I didn't keep mom's as it wasn't necessary for a small setup.

Either way bro there is no right or wrong really. Do your thing the way you comfortable. Just remember growing is very different from reading thru 100s of grow diaries and articles etc. All the luck 💚

@1000Hills Nursery this is great info man. Really really great. To be honest this has been a thought of mine but for some reason I had in my mind that if you made a clone of a clone continually you eventually get bad genetics. If that's not the case, I will most definitely try just taking clones from the vegged clones before they go into flowering. I also like that you flip them before even moving them to the other tent. Nice tip. I also forgot to mention that I do have a couple of buddies that can help with legit clones every now and then. Maybe this will help with some diversity.

Thanks again man. Pics looks great. Very jealous. Appreciate the effort. Will definitely do a grow log when I get started.

@Saurus howzit brother. Just catching up on your thread.
Wanted to know how those 50w LED veg lights are working out for you?

Watsup man. I've gotten 4 of them in a veg/propogation/mother tent. So far just user them for propagating but will soon be vegging ing the pots.

See these are on sale now , thinking of grabbing me 3 and seeing how they perform in a 1 x 1 m tent
Watsup man. Great idea. Except I think 450w of that light in a 1x1m tent is alot of light. For vegging I think you'd only need 1 to be honest. I have 3 50w that I use in my 1.2x0.6m tent.

Yes, 3 of those 50w's seem more appropriate, but then why not just go for the 150w for R390?3 x the 50w will set you back R570. +/- R180 difference.

      Hello growers
I would love to have an opinion on this topic. Let me update you on what I have been working with. I have a one plant indoor grow inside a 80cm x 80cm grow tent. I use a 40l fabric pot with both Orgasoilux and Freedom farms soil (green bag). The bottom half I use Orgasoilux(20l) and the top half I use Freedom farms soil(20l). Throughout veg all I give the plant is Biodyne Environoc 401 (microbes), Molasses and water. This results in an extremely healthy plant.
Once I flip to flower I start using organic bottled nutrients. In the past I have used Biobizz Bio-bloom, and more recently I have used Dirty hands inc - Bio-Phos (Jamie's brand). I give 3ml Bio-Phos once a week early flower and up it to 5ml every week mid to late flower. Plus a molasses feeding every 2 weeks and stopped using Biodyne microbes 1 week into flower.
I was thinking about completely ditching bottled nutrients and going the topdressing route for flower. I was thinking of maybe topdressing a week before the flip with Jamie's elemental blend. I am just worried if it will provide enough for the plants through to harvest. I was also thinking of maybe using my own topdressing blend of Dry kelp, Gypsum, Malted Barley and Worm Castings. Would love an opinion on switching to topdressing for flower and if the elemental blend should be more than enough to take me to harvest. If you think I should just stick to bottled nutrients for flower let me know. I am going to include photo's of my 2 previous grows using the method I have stated above. Just trying to get the best quality flower possible :)
      Some thoughts of mine...…
      Topdressing vs Liquid Nutrients?
Biobizz Bio-Bloom vs Dirty Hands Inc Bio-Phos?
One topdressing enough 1 week before flip?
Elemental Blend or my own flowering mix?

      My Grow:
Medium: Top Half Freedom Farms soil (20l) + bottom half Orgasoilux(20l)
Additives and Amendments: Molasses + Biodyne Environoc 401 Microbes + Dirty Hands Inc - Bio-Phos + Mycoroot (seedling)
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      (Seedling)
      - Solo Cup + Freedom Farms soil + Mycoroot
-Transplant in week 2 of veg to 40l
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      (Veg Stage)
      - initial inoculant 2ml Environoc Microbes
-1ml per litre  Environoc every 2 weeks
-5ml per litre Molasses every 2 weeks
-Stop Environoc 1 week into flower
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      (Flower Stage)
-3ml Bio-Phos every week (early flower)
-5ml Bio-Phos every week (late flower)
      -5ml Molasses every 2 weeks
-Stop Bio-Phos 2 weeks before harvest
      -Feed molasses until harvest

First time growing photoperiods, quite excited.

      Genetics
Hiroshima by Renegade Seed Co.  6 Pack

High THC, and according to the product description should deliver "high yields of dense, rock-solid buds."  Hoping to achieve that.
Want to make one a mother and start learning to clone. The description says "These highly stable genetics produce two phenotypes at most." Should be easy to choose a winner to reveg.
They advise topping, which I am also looking forward to learning. Want to also try "FIM" a plant or two to experiment.
      Grow Setup
      Same as before. Here
      ~
      Lets go
      9 November
Seeds arrived. Also received a Promotional 2 Pack of G-Fawke.

      10 November
Seeds into a glass of spring water. Onto a heating mat and into a dark cupboard to soak for 18 hours.

      11 November
Seeds started showing roots. All 6 seeds popped, gently took them and placed them root facing down in Jiffy Preforma Plugs.
Covered the holes slightly and into the ROOTiT Small Propagator they go. Heating mat underneath, and gently misted with spring water. Also threaded the hygrometer reader through a ventilation hole, to see the environment reading.
I think this reading is fine for germination. Any and all feedback welcome.

Hoping for them all to push out effectively over the coming days. In hindsight I should have maybe done the paper towel method to get the roots longer, before putting them into the plugs. I've also previously had a failed germination where I watered a bit much, so just gently misting this time as to not drown/stunt the seeds.

      Hi everyone,
I am currently looking to purchase an indoor setup for myself. Nothing fancy or big. Just enough to be a new hobby. I am always willing to invest in more stuff later, just dont have the money right now.
So basically my budget is Around R5k. I am willing to go over, but anything lower is always preferred.
I got a quote form MarijuanaSA and want a few opinions on it, or just a whole new quote for those that are willing to make one.

It seems to have all the important items in it. I can buy a few items that do the same at lower prices, like on takealot. I am looking at 0.8x0.8 or a 1x1 tents. What would be better? I want to grow around 2 to 3 plants at a time.
Then, I would really like a cheaper light to use but just cant seem to find a good option that is less than 1k...

So basically, I am asking for assistance in selecting all the basic items for my first ever indoor grow. Whatever saves me the most money and gives me enough items to get away for at least 2 harvests before investing more.
I already have soil and pots from my outdoor plants.
Any help will really be appreciated as I barely know what I am buying with indoor growing equipment.

I have a small list of just a few items that I am putting together to use as a purchasing guide. Here it is for a general idea of what im currently looking at:

      Good morning growers.
Currently have two plants vegging in my indoor setup and I noticed this morning my one plants is start to show pistils?? The light cycle has has been on 18/6 since seedling and hasn't changed since. Was wondering why one of the plants is showing pistils while it's under veg? I thought pistils only come once u flip to flower under 12/12 cycle. Not very happy because I wanted to still veg out the plants for longer and recently just topped them. If anyone can give an explanation that would be great👌😉. Plants have been happy the entire time with no deficiances, problems or stress. I would say it's been a perfect grow so far. And they are photo periods not autoflowers. Is it possible for the plant to shoot pistils and show its sex while still in veg?? Or is it guaranteed flipped. Thanks guys would appreciate your knowledge on this topic

      Aweh,
So my leaves are going light green and bottom fan leaves are turning yellow. Is this normal during flower? I know fade is normal but I'm not sure on leaves going full yellow and dying out. I'm going into week 7 of flower tomorrow. First photo period plant in flower so I'm new to this whole process.
