Diary Complete Palomino and friends

Morning folks.

I did a defoliation on the ladies this morning to open up all the mains and growth tips. For the last couple of weeks of vegging I want the canopy as open as possible.

I have picked up that the Twisted Helix has a tendency to start splitting at the stem where the plant was topped.. Maybe because she grows so vigorous?  So I wrapped the topped tips with insolation tape and will keep it close by if the situation becomes worse.

Here are the before and after pics..

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi folks,

Nothing much to report on this side.  I did the last defoliation for the vegetative part of the grow and will probably do one last defoliation before the end of week 2 of flower.

All the plants are showing the 8 main colas quite nicely except for the stocky Bubblegum who only has 4. It might not look like she was defoliated due to the very tight internodal spacing..

The clones have only been getting water but from the leaf colour it looks like they are ready to join the nute feed with the other ladies.

Will probably go for 1 or 2 or even 3 weeks more veg and then the flip. Will try to get the plants to be 50 to 60cm tall.

Atleast in flower I don't really care too much for Eskom and their kak tendencies..

I am very happy to hear that!! 😆

Never grew Blunicorn before so it will be nice if the Palomino takes on dominant Blunicorn traits.

Well, by the time flower comes you will be able to tell.

Blunicorn, at least the pheno I have, is very frosty - about as frosty as the slurricane I grew. Above average for sure.

I must take some bud pics and post them in my diary sometime. I had some very nice colour come through on mine as well.

Haha the suspense is killing me!

Will wait to hear what you think once she hits flower. Hoping for some nice expression.

Hi folks.

So this weekend saw the transplant of the clone ladies from 15cm to 20cm pots. The root systems looked super happy and healthy with a nice shade of white. Mind the droopy leaves they got a feed straight after the transplant..

I will probably flip to flower this coming weekend as the height of the ladies should be sufficient enough to ensure nice big and tall main colas.

Will post some close up pics with my first post flip post :-thumbsup

Flipping everything in the tent? Clones and all?

Yes sir that will be the idea to increase the yield for the tent.

And also my mobility will be a bit of a problem for the next few weeks so don't want to be moving pots around.

Hopefully with the clones I can get to that 300g or more again.

Ok nice.
I'd personally wait a little longer to allow the clones to establish themselves in the bigger pots and for the plants in the fabric pots to gain a bit more size.

That will help lead to better yields too I feel.
Bigger roots, bigger plants, bigger fruits.

Its looking great already, and I'm sure they will turn out just perfect if you flip next week or so. But when plants become more established in the root zone, they essentially end up growing/vegging faster. Veg another 2/3 more weeks and the growth will be surprising. Also the small clones that you going to flower in there too with the other plants, I like that Idea, wondering if there is a way to separate them big pots one side and clones another and possibly elevated if necessary, just an option, then the bigger plants wont shade them heavily.

Otherwise, looking great brother flip now or later! Still gna be a banger!

I agree, 2 or 3 more weeks and should be good.

Doesn't look bad and flipping now will work, however I feel the extra wait and veg time will be beneficial.

Yes, definitely will benefit. Also another thing I've kind of slowed down with is training plants, and close to the flip. So if the plant is already covering nice surface area like above, then I will merely guide the branches (only if necessary) apposed to pulling them down horizontally constantly, like 2 weeks before, let them gain some good vertical internodes (in my mind its like spring loading for the stretch🤪) but there is not evidence backing this up.

Thanx for the constructive input bro, much appreciated! I haven't really pushed hard on the vegging height previously so it will be nice to see what I end up with given the extra veg time. ✌️

Thanx bro I appreciate the input. Yeah I agree with you and PsyCLown and will give it a couple extra weeks. With the training I did most of the plants in the big pots will not grow over the pot perimeter so should hopefully not cause any shade spots. I am also lucky in the sense that I have 3 independently adjustable grow lights so I can angle it once we see who wins in the stretch.

I also agree with your take on not training right before flipping. The ladies already have some vertical nodes but can definitely do with some more. And like you say springboard for the stretch is a good idea if I have already come this far. Little bit more time for more reward sounds like a good plan

:-thumbsup

I typically have my plants trained before flower, however I have continued to train during the stretch / pre-flowering stage.

Depending on the strains, I'd say train with LST right up to you flipping to flower. The In House Strains I have been growing stretch like crazy and there I would continue to train and pull down after flipping due to how much they stretch and I do not like ending up with plants taller than I am. lol

Not sure I understand what you mean by the spring loading though.

Hi folks.

So I flipped to flower on the 31st of May. I was satisfied with the sizes of the plants taking into consideration the clones in the middle of the tent that will also add to the total yield.

I have cleaned up the 6 mother plants and will clean up the clones by the weekend. Then maybe one final clean up at the end of week 2 of flower. Struggling a bit with colder temps and Eskom fucking around but other than that not a lot to complain about.

Cleaning up the plants have also introduced me to their unique smells. It's really nice to start to smell the ladies and what they might represent going into flower.

Please mind the drooping Twisted Helix.. it turns out she drinks a lot and only got a feed after the clean up. Here are some before and after pics...

@PsyCLown thanx for the heads up man. It's been a couple of crazy weeks.

So currently we are on day 14 since the flip to flower. Some of the ladies have started stretching real nice. I made some notes on the height prior to flip so will be interesting to see which lady wins the race.

Some of the ladies are already starting to show some nice bud sites and starting to push pistils while others are taking their time.

I did a minor defoliation on the mothers and this should be enough for the final flowering stage (might trim a little here and there as the stretch settles) I also didn't defoliate the Bubblegum again as I like the current look..

All and all happy with the current situation and hoping that the rest of the flowering period will go on incident free.

      'Olla Bromigos!
Getting started a little later this year than last, rain around this time in my neck of the woods played havoc with seedlings last year.
For this Season I am firmly in the Local is Lekker corner, and will be running a bunch of @Totemicand some @Bay Seeds sourced a while ago from the Legends at @Cannabist. Thank you all for the great deal and freebies! Very grateful and super keen 🙃

So here we go! Up first 2 each of:
      Totemic - Green Gelato. Reg
      Totemic -Strawberry Deluxe. Fem
Totemic - Strawberry Sugar Cookies. Fem
Bay Seeds - AK Royal x Lemon Jedi X Choc Gelato. Reg
Totemic - Gelato x Cherry CBD. Reg

All seeds soaking since 4PMish, dechlorinated water with a spritz of Biodyne and BioBizz Root juice.
Some king sized seeds, some so big they got stuck in the container and needed prying out.

Very keen to get started! Some will go straight into pots from here, others via ziploc and paper towel route. Don't have enough side plates to separate 5 diff strains in paper towels etc. Will give the Fems the special treatment and let the Regs go au natural.

So I was browsing the Internet last season, more or less end of season, and in the process startes browsing local seedbanks to see whats out there. So I noticed a "free seeds" section and of course I checked it out and saw Chocolate Gelato on test a testers needed base, i guess and did a fake checkout to see what I needed to buy to get this deal. I did not complete the checkout cause I just figured lets leave it cause I don't have cash now anyhow.
Couple days later I received an envelope with feminized seeds, some rolling papers ans a sticker. All they asked was to do a test grow here. So here we go....
      @Cannabist, @Totemic
I received 5 x seeds and planted 3 for this season. 2 popped and is alive. The 3rd one did not make it sue to human error.

I'm not sure what the Sativa/Indica ratio is and the genetics either and I am hoping for Totemic for that answer and maybe a few tips..
They have been watered and fed with Humigro yesterday morning and they are responding well to it. Soon they should go to their bigger pots homes in the garden..

So here we go.. not sure if I'm early to the party but what the hel..

Will have some space in the tent soon and by the time these girls get flipped they should have the tent to themselves...

      600w HID
Extractor fan and two fans for air flow..
      The plan:
Will be starting the seeds in a tin with paper towel on top of the decoder. From there straight into Freedom Farms Seed Starter. I Have not used it before and is quite excited to try it out..

After the girls have been Veged to reach the required size, they'll be potted up into 5L pots.  Here is where I wil be testing a different soil mix for each..
#1 Will be grown in Freedom Farm Premium Classic & Diotomatious Earth..
#2 Will be grown in FF PC, DE and Super Frass
3# Will be grown in FF PC & DE Mixed with worm castings, Organic Mulch potting soil and extra Perlite..
None of the plants will get anything else. Normal declorinated tap water only. This grow off will determine my soil mix for further grows. It also serves as a bit of a test on the Super Frass and FF Seed Starter..

With these mixes I am sure to have 3 way different results..
To all the contestants, good luck stay safe and above all enjoy.. This is going to be epic..

      Hey guys!
I am really looking forward to this grow. Objective is for personal breeding purposes.
This will be my first time experimenting with breeding cannabis, any help is appreciated 🙂

Currently growing Laughing Buddha (Barney's Farm) and Charlotte's Angel (Dutch Passion). Plan is to cross Novakane with these strains, as well as breeding Novakane F2 seeds.
Novakane F1 seeds were sourced from @Totemic. On a side note, just a thank you from my part. The beans I ordered arrived swiftly, with a lot of freebies! The quality of these seeds are unmatched.

Started germinating today, soaked 5 regular seeds for 30min in Explogrow. Afterwards transferring them to a 1:100 solution of Explogrow and pH 6 water for 12 hours.
Am a fan of the paper-towel method, and have had great success placing said paper-towel inside a plastic bag on top of my router. Will do this next...

      Grow setup:
      240W LM301b + Epistar 660nm Kingbrite Quantum Board
      Freedom Farms Premium Soil
      T.A. Pro Organic Nutrients
      1.2 x 0.7m Grow Tent
