  1. Do you guys like to use a bacterial dominant tea during veg and early flower, then a more fungal dominated tea for mid and later flowering? A bacterial rich tea late in flowering could keep plants pretty green with nitrogen fixing bacteria, where the fungal dominant teas will allow plants to color better and help with ripening. Thoughts on this? What step do brewers take to ensure its a bacterial dom or fungal dom tea? Awesome thread
  2. Sjo @Bospatrollie2 those CookieBirds are keeping you busy, I hope the flowers won't disappoint, they are a unruly lot in the veg mode. Training is looking good man, she is going to make a lovely bush of buds! Thanks a lot for the effort man.
  3. Hi @Smelly Joe , no worries man, life gets busy sometimes, you can drop updates whenever it suites you. She is still looking good after the serious beating, happy about the recovery, just keep a eye out for male saks on her, I have had some of these Cookie hybrids go hermie on me after serious stress. I don't want to let you stress out, but just mentioning it in-case the worst happens, wouldn't want to ruin the rest of your crop. Sometimes it will only make one or two male saks and then carry on flowering as usual, those i just pluck before they want to open, but if more male flowers develop on new bud sites I cull the plant. Thanks for all the effort bro, really cool seeing your plants
  4. Hi man, this is one of the lowest effort methods I have found, providing a few conditions are met. If you have a space that is not situated close to your females, or without a lot of bypassing traffic, preferable a house where there is no growing going on (im lucky enough to know a cool old lady). I put the plant on a big piece of cardboard paper next to a window that gets some direct sunlight (i make sure the windows remain closed. You can also use a cardboard box with the top open, lined with cardboard paper to catch the pollen. So the male plant just flowers out dropping its pollen on the cardboard paper, every day or two I would go give it a shake, collect pollen with a card, then do the steps you mentioned. And of course hit the shower, clothes in the wash, etc. Another method is similar you just need to build a little breeder box, with the right mesh to keep the pollen in, similar to how they do tomato's, this is my preferred method for a natural pollination, ie, boy and girl open air pollination, but in the breeder box. Hope that helps a little bit bro, peace and buds!
  5. Yellow stickystrips for sure, @DankFiend @trichomechaser , u get predator plants that specifically target gnats and thrips, however caring for them is a hobby in itself. The predator plants do well with a 12/12 light cycle, but they do require some direct light From the lights, making it tricky and perhaps not ideal for some growers. Best of luck
  6. Looooooads of growing and testing, and then more loaaads of growing and testing As a hobby breeder i would say that a lot of dedication, love for the plant, hard work and ultimately the time (years) put in to the selection process. Good genetics wont save a bad grower nd bad genetics sure as hell dont help a good grower, but when its all cured and in the jar, homegrown with love, its usually clear what is dank. Some good genes in the EU and in the States I would say, but like you guys mentioned, not all seedcompanies have fire, hell some dont even have germination
  7. Yo @Totemic you can also make a cardboard disc to push onto the top of the soil (cardboard pressing into the sides of the pot), similar to how they ship small plants, before adding the black bags like @CreX mentioned. Helps a bit with losing soil and the mess from letting them travel on their sides. Cardboard disc just needs a hole for the stem in the center, and a slit from one side to the hole, so that you can guide it into the pot. Good luck with the move bro.
  8. Welcome to the forum @CannaCult , looking forward to your dairies, happy growing
  9. They are like wild things couldn't have said it better @Bospatrollie2 , I hope they are a joy to grow my bru! The origins of the mother plants are a mystery, but could be from some of the Caribbean islands, the guy that blessed me with the seeds did not really mark them (collection from his travels). They have only grown in soil by me, the seeds were also made with their roots deep into the soil. I posted a pic of one the moms on my introduction thread here, if you want to see your GKB's parents
  10. Looking good @Bospatrollie2 ! By the looks of it you will have at least two different pheno's representing, the outdoors (in the dirt) looks a lot like the dad, should be a more Kushy bud and vibe, and then the ones that start making skinnier leaves (especially that middle finger leaf) should be more 50/50, even leaning a bit more to the Cookies. Can't wait to see them pompoms! Peace and buds bro
  11. Well done sorting out those mites bro These plants have no vigour problems, will start pushing good growth after recovery and a new pot. Happy growing @SmokeyZero

    Lady bugs?

Hi @Oolong83 , just wanted to add that @Totemic is right about the ladybug breeding, not impossible for personal use, dont know about selling. I documented some of my ladybird breeding project this year, u can check it here if u are interested Solid advice from @greenkush there most likely the best route if u want to stay organic and the flowers started. Best of luck with it man!
  13. Hi @420sake , thanks a lot for posting! Its great to hear that you are busy with the DP's, surely one of our nicest here in SA, but like you mentioned, need to see what happening in dem hills these days. The idea behind the breeders group was to hopefully get some dank collaborations going, share some beans, and ofcourse breed some beans! I have been a bit busy moving house, but should get more time to spend here on group and 420SA forum. There must be lots of members looking after their DP strains, sure you guys could work together and isolate some killer genetics, as well as improve selection etc. Sorry to hear about that hail storm man, best of luck with the next selection!
  14. It's not the worst job in the world there are better and easier methods to do this, but dusting under the leaves once in a while is not too bad. Defoliating a bit beforehand can also make the job a lot easier, thought I'd mention the DE as it can help a lot with the mites.
  15. Yo @SmokeyZero sorry to hear about the mites man, and big thanks for popping some beans and making a thread here on the LocalGenetics section, salut! This year has been the year of the mite so far, in severe infestations, or annoying ones (like motherplants infected) you can follow up with a generous dusting under the leaves with some diatomaceous earth (after the leaves are dry). I use a fine brush almost like a makeup brush to dust the undersides of the leaves. Then I try not to wet the leaves for a few days, DE on the topsides of the leaves will stick to the surface when it gets wet, but with a good rinse it comes of easy enough, anyhow, the DE shreds the little new born mites, a great help in the battle. DE also provides silicate to soil biology when it gets watered in eventually (silicate is responsible for nice strong cell walls). Best of luck bro, and thanks again for the plug!
  16. @Mambawana those cuttings are looking stoked to get into the action!
  17. She is going to love that 60l home, I'm sure she will take it in her stride, and luckily about midway into flowering she'll start drinking a bit less Looking forward to seeing these gals flower man!
  18. Nice man that SwazzGold looks legit! Some of the Cookie hybrids have this nice limegreen leaves, it shows quite well next to the army green SwaziGold, very cool
  19. Lovely @Bospatrollie2 I dig how she is opening up making thinner bladed leaves letting the sun into the lower part of the plant. They are really thirsty plants, you could mulch with some dried straw, will help to retain a lot of moisture as well as some microbial benefits. Their mom lived in a well mulched veg garden happy growing man, hope they make you proud.
  20. Looking good bro! @Bospatrollie2 im loving those bushes, starting to get amped to see those pompoms and nuggies! The one furthest on the left the GiantCookieBird and other two KushCookies?
  21. Awesome I'll speak to the man!
  22. Yo @Mambawana happy 2020 to you to my bru, hope its filled with the dankness! I think life is like a box o chocolates and people are like licorice all sorts i dont really mind if somebody wants to criticize me or prove me wrong (the only way to learn sometimes, and my own mistakes), everybody has the right to their opinion, sometimes things are a bit fkdup, but the mods do a good job I think. I know some okes are blazing on some super positive strains, while others are klapping kinda opiate "og" type weed, discussions won't always go smooth. I dig variety and I must say I would hate it if everybody just agreed etc etc, while some comments on the net can heat us up, its not life, and with weed, well she usually speaks for herself anyway, I just try and give her a good life. Thanks for the kind words man, im really just smoking on too much good herb, not hard to see the silver linings, stay blessed up brother, fkkken amped to see that fire you going Electic Watermelon got my attention for sure dude!
  23. Yo @PsyCLown @CreX , all good, he is a pretty chilled dude, not sure if it is legal in SA, wouldn't wan't to get him into any kind of potential troubles. Going to mention all the interest in the cuttings, im sure he'll be stoked to share. I tried some xTract once, or twice.. next level, lol
  24. Welcome to the group @Chris Jay , sounds lekker man, the Cannabis community in SA will be unique that is for sure, sorry to hear about the social things, FB is another monster hahaha. Here on the forum its pretty chilled, rep doesnt mean that much I think, users enjoy sharing the cannabis love and helping each other growing better herb, a nice vibe. About the quality of seeds/flower, its like that all over the world, people arrive in Amterdamn thinking all the bud is top shelf, this is hardly true, about 60% (prob more) of the coffee shops have really crappy weed. Same goes for seeds, its a big business so not all have ethics required. But with that said grew some killer bud from Holland seeds recently, not bad at all, was from Dinafem freebies nogals, thought it would be mediocore but excellent smoke and bagappeal.
  25. I know a dude @Chris Jay , he has 2 small mother plants, im not sure how fast they grow etc, i can ask him hook you up im sure, might only be later on in the year tho.
