  1. Amazing what shitty coco and some nutes can do [emoji14] Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  2. @Golden-Goose So do we have a verdict as to the keeper pheno for PC?
  3. Shame, really struggling there. Quite slow growth, however it is in a harsh environment and who knows how much nutes she (hopefully) has access to. Still a bit of time until she starts to flower at least.
  4. Nah, I understand - you don't want to be caught lying. If you say yes, then it is something you won't have to worry about if they ever do test for it. Let us know how it goes, for interest sake
  5. Looking good! When you run out of jiffies, time for the glue plugs?
  6. Honestly not sure, however I suspect higher premiums for "drug use". In their eyes, it is not seen as medicinal. Quite sure on this, unfortunately. I was advised by my broker to say no to any "drugs".... State that I do not smoke.
  7. Yeah, I think it will be awesome for those who attend and I feel it is great that we are getting such events in South Africa. The more events like this the better for us I feel, brings more exposure and with time the backing will increase and the events have the opportunities to grow and improve. If 10 entrants and 100 judges do not work, learn from it and move on and improve it on the next even. Simple as that. I do not feel it will detract from the fun for those attending or entering into the cannabis cup.
  8. 100% However not everyone will be interested in entering this. Also they will be sifting through the entries and narrowing it down to some of the better 10 entries they get. You likely won't seem oom Piet's outdoor landrace from 2019 in that list of 10 because he still has some laying around and thinks its great because it hits harder than the majut from BP. It will likely be replaced by some better entries. We need to start somewhere, how many entries would you like for judges to sample? How much bud can a person sample in a few hours? Not sure how big this event will be, however I do not imagine it to attract 10s of thousands of people either. I think it is pretty cool to have such an event, if it runs well then the next one could look at taking it a step further, improving on the short falls and hopefully get more backing and a bigger turn out. Perhaps it could be built up to an event for people throughout SA to enter some of their best shizz - South African cannabis cup and see who can walk away with the title. How long have these cannabis cups been going on for in SA? I see there was a Cape Town one in 2021, not sure about the previous years.
  9. Lol, I have no clue. However 660nm and 730nm (or UV as quite a few manufacturers refer to it as) are quite common with grow lights now a days. @Righteoussower A light from 2011, you need to keep in mind that the efficiency and output of the light will decrease over time. It is generally recommended to replace your grow light in 3 to 5 years due to this decrease. I guess you can think of it like clothing, you have a favorite pair of socks or top which you wear often... Over time it starts to wear down, gets damaged and you end up needing to replace it due to holes. Similar concept with grow lights, while the light may still appear to be bright, the actual PAR output will reduce quite a bit and therefore the efficiency goes down and you end up using the same amount of electricity for less output and your plants will start to notice it as well and growth won't be the same as when the light was new. I have never seen that light before, but it is basically just COB's which are not very popular anymore and you get far more efficient LED's and therefore grow lights now a days. In terms of a new or replacement light - you can go the route of building your own if you enjoy that sort of thing or have the knowledge to do it. Not difficult, but not for everyone. Otherwise you can just buy a good grow light - we have vendors on this forum who offer grow lights and the members can help guide you - most make use of Quantum Boards or bar lights. Both have pros and cons, but end of the day they're very very similar - especially if they both use the common Samsung LM301 LED diode. I prefer Quantum Boards, however there is no right or wrong between Quantum Boards (QB's) or bar lights, it comes down to what may be better for you and your setup.... With that being said you do get some shitty Quantum Boards and you do get some shitty bar lights. If you are unsure, ask on the forum and the members can help guide you
  10. The members we have on the forum, especially the active ones, are a tiny percentage of growers here in SA. Unfortunately the forum is not a place where most growers with bigger operations hang out. Also a lot of them like to keep quiet and lurk instead. Not saying we do not have any or that they aren't active on the forum, but there are growers who have been doing this for years in a larger scale and continue to do so. They've generally learn what they need to and will run their own independent tests when needed and seldom need to reach out for help or already have the contacts in place and do not require a forum to do it. I feel there are far more newer growers on the forum and majority are home growers. Some might be larger home grows, however a homegrower none the less. Although we're getting off topic now. I hope such an even pops up in JHB sometime, will be pretty cool! A bit more time to prepare and get plants ready and growing will help though.
  11. Considering there are 100 judges, I do not feel it is a crazy amount. As you said 5g of bud per judge in total for the day. Yielding 50g from a plant is not unreasonable. Obviously will vary depending on the way the plant was grown and training done etc. However one can easily yield 50g from a plant, perhaps even more... I assume the 50g could even come from 2 plants, which are the same strains (ideally same pheno)? 100x judges also makes it a bit more fair, helps rule out bias from a small group of judges who may just happen to have a preference towards certain terps for example.
  12. I feel the growth is perhaps a bit on the slow side. However there should be some explosive growth soon. I put some seeds into water on 31 December 2021, by 5th Jan they were in coco in 20L fabric pots and had stalks but few had leaves yet. This photo was taken on 28 Jan: There has been some explosive growth since then as well and you would not think it was the same tent if I posted a picture of what it looks like now. Just green everywhere as they're now getting established.
  13. Sorry about the PM and Thrips, although you've spotted it early so I am sure it will not continue to be an issue until the end of flower I am wondering how much of a difference, if any, would would notice with coco & perlite as opposed to coco & leca? @Dookie69 You also use autopots, what medium do you use?
  14. That is my plan, just need to get off my ass and find time to turn my trim into some hash. Got everything, just need the time to do it now. Haha Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  15. The Trim Bag works well, but there is a learning curve! As @CreX said, too wet and it does not do much. Too dry and it works, but you need to make sure you do not overtumble it when it is very dry. You actually want the bud to be pretty dry and then rehydrate it afterwards. I find this works the best. If there is too little bud in the trimbag, it does not work as well. If there is too much in, then also it does not work as well. The number of "tumbled" or "rotations" will also determine how your bud ends up looking. Tumble it a lot and you start to take away the outer of the bud and you get a more rounded looking bud - some pics on Instagram have this look to them. Generally this leads to les trimming and more just neatening up and getting rid of some crowfeet. Less tumbles can still remove A LOT of trim and leaf, however leave you with a bit more to trim by hand but will give you more of a hand trimmed look with a lot less effort. Trichomes do not take as much of a knock when done this way. So there is a learning curve, once you get the hang of it - it works well and can save you a lot of time. I doubt you will notice any difference in terps of potency when using the trimbag compared to a hand trim... unless you really go overboard and start tumbling your bud into a powder. lol
  16. I am looking at moving over to Autopots to try out, so definitely interested in your feedback, tips and tricks.
  17. @Furbrain Tent, you could fit 18x 20L pots inside a 1.2 x 2.4m tent. Not saying you should, but you can and many have flowered with that many plants. More plants in the same space often means smaller plants and therefore quicker veg times, at the same time you don't want to overcrowd your grow space as light penetration can become an issue. It is nice to have the larger space and fill it up as you start to grow more as opposed to having to sell your current equipment and buy more. So upto you on this, however 3 to 4 plants in a 1.2 x 2.4 is either VERY large plants and long veg times or loads of space still available. Fans, I use RAM fans (rather cheap) and AC Infinity (pricier). Both seem really good. For air movement, I like to use box fans as they seem to last longer. Dehumidifier is a nice to have, but not always necessary - start without one and if it becomes an issue get one. I like the GMC dehumidifiers, well pried and work well. Tents, well, I say avoid Mammoth. Mars Hydro tents I believe are good and price is not bad. I really like my Budbox tent, but a little more pricy. Secret Jarden is also not bad, just their Hydro Shoot range take a knock in terms of quality. As for lights, well, there are loads of options. I use Quantum Boards, but there are lots of options. So you need to decide what might work best for you. The vendors on our forum have lights at really good prices.
  18. The Pokon nutes aren't the cheapest. For veg, you can get away with buying some Seagro and using that. For flower you'd want to move away from the Seagro and over to something with lower Nitrogen and higher Phosphorus. Edit: what else works well I believe which a few members have done is started using the Talborne slow release pellets and mix that into their soil and I believe get away without feeding nutes during veg. Of course if you notice deficiencies, you can always start adding more liquid nutes then as well.
  19. At least the first post is updated now. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  20. Yea, they are quite strong and you can get away with spacing the boards out a bit more if you'd like. I find their size works well in a 1.2 x 2.4m and 1.2 x 0.6m tent. As well as some of the smaller square ones -0.8x0.8, 1x1 and 1.2 x 1.2 In a 1.5 x 1.5 the layout of the boards needs to change but it can work well still. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  21. She looks good, some nice toxtailing on her.
