Good morning 8-)

Lettuce get to business. No need to dawdle with seedlings and veg, we're going straight into preflower on this one.

To fillup the tent, I am also running 1x Wedding Cake [ @1000Hills Nursery] and 1x Choc Gelato thanks to @Cannabist

I also have 5x Zkittlez x Purple Punch clones from a mother from a previous run like this one, these are to fill the tent further and provide a reference to the height I've been choosing my plant. Thus far with the clones I've managed to get them pretty consistent in height.

18 April the seedlings were repotted into their initial pots and went into veg.

Flip was done on the 1st June, so we are a week+ into preflower currently. Pistols are blooming nicely on the daily. The aromas are just beginning to change to that familiar skunky funky.

I began with 10 Regular Tortoni beans and ended with 4 males, 1 weak sauce Betty, and 5 sturdy females. The objective at this point is to choose one based off of whatever is the ultimate consensus of this thread. This will then be my latest addition to what will be my stable of strains.

Seeing as we are doing the growoff with the feminised beans it will be shap to see the result of the regular females. Also, I want the blessings and knowledge of our papa @Totemic :-bow

The plants are in order of the Tortoni's from left to right, then the additional plants. I have also taken the current heights of the plants from the base of the medium to the top of the plant. I've attempted my best to keep all the pots at the same level 🤷‍♀️

Overview

Overview.thumb.jpg.29ce71072a45370d7e37f5bffc05bd97.jpg

I've kept everything pretty vanilla. I am slowly increasing on the light power as the plants begin to progress through preflower. Coco/Perlite 70/30 Gold Label in 17L Dirt Pots (basically thin ass fabric pots. Results vary). Terra (GHE) Aquatica nutrients. I've kept to the standard dosage as described on the bottle. I have also added a Silicon product for the duration of veg. I had a small scare with thrips but after looking around I had only found one little bugger. Three leaves had the usual silver streaky lines but it appears nothing is yikes, all lower leaves. I'm keeping a lookout.

I went for a pretty standard trim on the majority of the plants. I took much of the early stems off by the flip but they just blasted in the last week and a half. I have kept conditions at a toasty 22C using a automated panel heater. It's been kak cold outside, jirre. The Wedding Cake has presented itself as quite a thirsty one, it's either a light green plant by nature or she's thirsty. I have her cloned so we can give that one another proper go with some more juice. Otherwise all the other plants are powering on.

It's yo boi

Looking damn good man. Seems you got a nice spread of short Gelato dominance and some Slurricane dominance in the taller phenos

Been doing some thinking on this. I am leaning more towards the Slurricane side, not only for the pheno but also for a little bit of height. So far I have managed to get pretty consistent in terms of height with clones I now take from my stable of mothers, so if the Tortoni can do the same that'd be great. Having said that, I also do not want the very tallest plant either, so...best of both worlds?

I am super keen to see the differences between the Gelato and Slurricane dominances when the plants are in full flower 🤠

Got an update on the Tortoni F1's, this will be the update in anticipation for the harvest at the end of the month, or at least that's what I'm hoping. Frankly I will want a good all-round consensus here before doing any chopping of the Tortoni's.

The ZxP's I've got running alongside have consistently been good to go after 8 weeks flower which will be exactly on the 1st August, and they are looking mighty delicious, but they are not the point of the thread.

I've moved the plants around a bit to keep the similar sized plants together so they get relatively the same amount of light, so they will seem out of place from the last update but I am going to post the plants in the same order to keep some consistency.

They all look so damn good I've actually decided to choose two to keep instead of just one, seeing as some variety is popping up.

I am loving the colour coming out of T#9 and the bulbs on T#8 are looking real good too.

The shortees T#5 and T#10 are looking mighty green still.

T#6 is looking to be the most in the middle out of all the others.

Unfortunately I can't really comment on the terpenes or smells because I've been in a light battle with the Rona and my sense of taste and smell has been kinda fucky for some time now, but it's slowly coming back so hopefully I can make some comments on that closer to harvest time.

Alrighty then we are coming up on that time 😁

I am going to post the update pics in order of how I took them this time just out of convenience as I have three different angles for each plant. I am also going to post the other plants I am growing just for comparisons sake.

There's a bunch of pics to follow so I will do my quick summary here rather than after.

One of the Tortoni's, T#6 has been developing some nanners so I am going to chop her tomorrow morning after setting up my drying net. The nanners are very isolated and look very new so I do not think they would have had time to do too much damage. Time will tell if any seeds developed in her or in any other of the ladies. When I give her the chop I am going to give the back plants a closer look as I will have a bit more space to do so.

T#10 has the thickest and most complete queen cola out of all the Tortonis and she has the most green and lack of purple out of all the Tortonis. T#5 may be short, but her buds are all nice and consistent in size, she's like a mini version of T#10 but with a little more purple hues. T#8 has the most developed bottom nuggets I have ever seen on any plant I have ever grown in my life, I just forgot to take a pic of them but I will next time. They look like nuggets you would find in the middle of the plant but they are the most bottom which I usually get undeveloped meh buds, but not this lady. T#9 has the deepest colour of purple out of all the Tortonis and is a bit like T#8 in shape and size but the bottom nugs don't seem as developed or as large.

Otherwise still a good few clear trichomes on the Wedding Cake and one or two of the Tortonis. Trickles of amber are appearing throughout all the plants so end of month is still looking like perfect harvest timing.

The Choc Gelato is the tiniest plant of the lot, super small but I am hoping she packs some tasty flavour.

The Zkittles x Purple Punch has some really stellar compact trichomes, it wows me every time.

Thanks guys, been looking forward to this moment before harvest for quite a while!

I just harvested T#6 now, after handling the bud and getting a nice personal look at the nuggets, @Totemic the buds are mega resinous my dude, jirrrrrrrrre! I don't think I've ever had gloves this soaked in goodness before and I consider this one to be harvested a bit early. I am so looking forward to harvesting the rest of the Tortonis later on in the month after what I just saw 🤩

Tonight was the night. Just as the plants woke up into their morning sunrise (my evening) I checked the pots, nice and light, and made the chops. The total flowering time was 8+ weeks.

I took pictures in three angles of each plant after I had removed the majority of the foliage first. The angles are of the full plant, a close up of the main cola, and then the very bottom buds of each plant because I think they really stood out for me in terms of their development and size. With the benefit of seeing how they grew now I think I could really nail them on the second or third run by limiting the lower branches a bit more aggressively and see what kind of monstrous buds I could get like that, the genetics are definitely there for yield!

From a purely growing point of view, T#10 in my opinion had the best and fullest development from the middle branches and main cola, not the tallest but also not the shortest... maybe I will call her Goldilocks 🤔 her lower buds on the other hand were the least developed. So I would try limiting the lower branches aggressively on the next run and try for a more slender profile. Could be a good way to pack in as many plants together side by side with something like this :investigating

The best in terms of terpenes at harvest is the shortest plant T#5. She has the most intense smell of gelato ice-cream, a very sweet scent with a hint of vanilla and sugar.

The last two plants T#9 and T#8 are very similar. They don't have as much gas as the first two, but there's something cosmic about their lollipop looking buds that I like. I want to experiment with this a bit in future. I feel it will be one of these two that will get the chop, and at the end of the day three lovely phenos will be kept for some future endeavors 👑 not bad from a pack of 10 regulars I rate 🤷‍♀️

Next will be the smoke report in say... two weeks? The area has been quite dry for me here in the highveld at this time. The hermie I chopped last week dried in the drying tent for about 5 days before being popped in the jars for 4 days and I had a cheeky puff puff. I am quite satisfied as is, very clean and slow come up 8-) it only gets me more excited to try out and share the various phenos to see what the consensus is. The potency is highly present 🎁 I'll be making isolate capsules with the trim 🧟‍♂️

All the Tortoni's came out the drying tent last night for a trim. Got some nice full looking jars and plenty trim spinning in the 'ol Butter Machine right now for isolate capsules.

Going to wait until about Wednesday before dipping in for a cheeky test smoke and an update pic 8-) the buds are oily as hell and smell ridiculously good.

Alrighty time for a smoke report right after hitting the T#9 8-)

Bud pics are at the end. Nothing fancy or different between the nugs but I thought it'd be nice just to post.

I will first talk about the Tortoni strain as a whole and then talk about the phenos I managed to get. The strain slaps, first and foremost. It is a great smooth smoke after a two week cure at least. The high is well on the eyes but doesn't debilitate you the rest of the day if smoked moderately. I can still get things done with a spring in my step after a toke of the Tortoni. If smoked later at night in greater quantities, it's night night. The capsules I made from the trim are amazing painkillers and sleep promoters, especially if a lot of physical work or exercise has been done during the day. Probably the most medical tincture I've made thus far.

The buds themselves appear more on the darker green side and the trichomes give an almost starry appearance to the buds when the light hits just right. I am happy to make this the new addition to the stable.

Now to rank the phenos in personal preference. The top position is split between T#9 and T#10. They have pretty much all the promises made in the description of the strain, "this cross expresses as an indica with dense trichome frosted flowers, with vivid orange pistils, carrying a sweet, fruity aroma, on a subtle spiciness, offering an austere, hashy, premium taste." 100% @Totemic, that's what I am getting right here. The sweet fruity aroma I would describe as the hints of gelato I experience.

T#5 gets third. It doesn't feel as heavy on the eyes in terms of high but it's aromas and sweet scents are more prominent than the above. I've decided to keep it on the intention to try express the terpenes a bit more acutely in a future grow.

Then lastly T#8, it gets the chop. To me it was beat in one aspect or another by the 3 phenos above and I'd rather keep fewer than more mothers at this time just due to space management.

All in all a great result in my opinion. I was expecting to keep just one but ended up with three 😬 bussing strain.
