Day 17

20210526_195044.thumb.jpg.46946befd5356415834d7859c44ae723.jpg

Seeing as I haven't yet given a breakdown of my setup.....

It's a fairly straight forward setup with some gear that is getting on a bit now.

Veg Tent

1.5 x 1.5 GTHydro tent

250w (early veg) 400w(late veg) MH Bulb

8" Extractor Fan (functioning as active exhaust)

Flower Tent

1.5 x 1.5 GTHydro tent

400w(early flower) 600w(late flower) HPS Bulb.... or possibly 2 x 400w HPS throughout

6" Extractor Fan (functioning as passive intake)

40cm Wall Mounted Fan

----------------------------------------------------------

The pic below illustrates how the ventilation process works.

The 8" inline fan in the veg tent is exhausting out the tent through a window behind the tent.

The 6" inline fan in the flower tent is bringing air into the tent from a different window behind that tent.

The tents are then linked with an 8" duct indicated below in the pic. Fortunately, as these tents are two different models, the bottom duct outlets are very close to each other. Keeping the duct short and making it easier for air transfer. When both tents are zipped closed, by pure luck really, a perfect equilibrium is achieved and both tents maintain a steady negative pressure. As the veg tent is sucking air straight from the flower tent, it's ambient temp varies between 1 to 3 degrees higher than the flower tent, when the flower tent's light is on. Which is an added bonus in winter when you want your veg tent to still hold the higher temps.

Honestly in winter, those HIDs are fitting the purpose tremendously. I thinking if adding an extra 400w-1200w for heating if opting for cooler lighting solutions, you behind on the bill and behind on the environment.

Well played💯 @420SA

You're right bud. The tents are hitting a steady 24 to 25C with lights on which I can't complain about. 40% RH

I used to have big challenges where I used to stay (Nelspruit) which actually put me off growing when I was living there. In summer a tent would hit 40 sometimes I kid you not. As a result, fluffy bud... AC was out of the question.

I've now moved up the hill to White River this year which is a good 4 to 5 degrees colder than Nelspruit at any given time. So I may even be okay in summer, we'll see.

My location is Richards-bay, summer time my tent reaches 40+ degrees for weeks on end, I just close the room and forget about it, it's very disheartening!

But I found a Strain from Ethos inzane in the membrane, flowered rock hard buds during the hottest week of the year. (was like 35+ the entire flowering period)

Can be seen on my Instagram a few posts down👍

Day 22

Things began to go a little south from Friday last week. The plants started to droop a bit. As overwatering was out of the question I assumed they must've been getting a little root bound so I decided to transplant on Sunday.

Suspicions were correct. They were fairly root bound at the bottom of the pot. Nice healthy roots though.

The plants were transferred into 20 cm pots with a vegging soil mix. They're starting to look happier tonight. I'm gonna top them tomorrow morning.

Day 31

Pics taken last night

Pace of growth picking up nicely. Bit of a stretch going on for #2....

Otherwise growth is nice and healthy at the moment.

The plants tend to come out more yellow in the pics. They are greener to the naked eye. The spectrum of the bulb and colour correction on the phone seems to cause this

I may have topped at the 5th node but I will confirm. I could have done the top sooner but I needed to get the transplant done first so there was a delay there

Not really following a strict regime at present as the weather is fluctuating quite a lot, from cold rainy days to sunny warm ones. Before the repot I was watering every 2 days.

I did water the pots with some fulvic after the pics in the last update. Right now I'm working more by the finger in the soil, weight of pots sorta process.

Day 34

#2 and #3 have really put on a stretch and I don't really know why to be honest. The top coincided with a change of bulb from 250w to 400w so perhaps the 400w bulb isn't so lekker. I'm in 2 minds on whether to change back to the 250w or not

20210614_220451.thumb.jpg.767ff18a0036d125f962dacea096dce3.jpg

Decided to do a bit of supercropping on the stretched plants to help manage the stretch

This is another hobby of mine. Homebrewing beer. Below is an Irish Stout I've been working on. Much like with weed, once you enjoy a well made homebrew, very few commercial examples can compare

I must say I've seen some really good looking plants in the other diaries. Really looking forward to seeing what happens in the next chapter of this growoff!

That bev looks awesome! Irish stout, that's my jam! Any tips on how to start out??

It goes down well. Especially in this cold weather. Tough to really give a few tips on starting out as there are so many different aspects to brewing beer. What I would say is perhaps start out with the Brew In A Bag method and make YouTube and the web your best friend (just like with bud). Look up David Heath homebrew which is a very helpful channel. Also be prepared for another hobby that is gonna reach deep into your pockets... equipment can get pricey!

Day 41

Plants are starting to get a bit miffy with me and starting to droop somewhat. Usually a sign for me that they want their new pot which puts me in a bit of a predicament.... I've been trying to source Lithuanian peat moss in bulk since early May for the soil mix that will see these plants through flower but the supplier has been delaying with excuse after excuse for non delivery. After a combination of waiting too long and procrastination, I decided to use a blend of coco and protek peat moss from builders and only mixed the soil last Wednesday. Which means this soil is undercooked and I'm worried about getting these plants into the soil even sooner than anticipated. This soil needs a month to cook, which I obviously wouldn't have had enough time for anyway. On the other hand I have been okay in the past when getting plants into the soil too soon, so we'll see.... Gonna try push transplant till Wednesday or Thursday.

Otherwise I'm happy with the progress of growth coming up to the flip deadline

Base of the soil mix pictured below ( Perlite, EWC, Coco & Protek Peat Moss) This got mixed together and then amendments were added.

The Lithuanian peat moss you can find at Jamie’s farm unless they are the supplier who now doesn’t have stock but ice used them before ☝🏻👍🏻

I prefer to source directly from who is most likely Jamie's supplier. Greenhouse technologies. I get a 200L bag for just under R400-00

They've been having distribution issues of late though. It's been a breeze previously

I have used Vegtech and GH Tech as peat suppliers before. I am sure you should not have any problems finding alturnate suppliers for peat. Blue berries are being planted al over the place these days.

There is another supplier in my area but its double the price of the peat from GHtech. I'm not spoilt for choice here in the lowveld unfortunately. There are so many things I have to source from other cities and the courier fees rack up
