  1. @Naughty.Psychonaut You're calling it trance, that is psytrance IMO.

Trance I feel is the stuff from back in the day with ATB, Armin van Buren, Above and Beyond. I feel it has kinda died and people moved on though. Music change and evolved and that did not carry through.

I use to love Psytrance, however it gets a bit too repetitive, especially when one goes to a festival as it's just that rolling bass the whole time. The track you posted is cool though.

Reminds me of some of the Infected Mushroom stuff. Daydin and Neelix also have some nicer stuff which isn't just that rolling bass the whole time. If I am at a festival, I am not at the Psytrance stage which is often the main stage. I'd rather make my way over to the House, Techno or D&B stage. If it is just Psytrance, I do not go.

There has also been quite a bit of mixing of genres which I am not against at all.

I feel this is a good example of such as well. Coming Soon also have some good stuff.

Prefer having weeds in my garden than using roundup. Whats interesting is we have learnt what weeds are edible and what are not e.g lambs quarter. Also lots of the weeds are eaten by our animals, used in compost teas or just added into the compost pile.

Yea, here in the city the only animals are the cats in the complex or the birds. lol

I too an not a fan of Roundup. I see there are other "lawn herbicides" though. May resort to that once the lawn is in and if I still end up with weeds then.

I tried the Finalsan, the shit goes quickly. 200ml per L

So 2.5L from a 500ml bottle, could not even do the entire 70sqm of or so of the garden. Works okish, was hoping for something more dramatic... Like the plants dieing and burning and being all shriveled up.

I think it would work well for only a few weeds or weeds on a pavement. I ended up pulling a lot out with the use of a spade.

Im really concidering switching to only coco or hydro. Just seems easiest to measure. With soil there is always at least one fuckup during the grow.

I was just going to say, you may as well try coco then which is inert and will give you full control over the nutes you're feeding to the plants and coco can be cheaper than "cannabis soil".

Purchase some 5KG bricks, expand, buffer and use. With coco you need to be on point with your PH though as there isn't anything in the coco to help bufer the PH, I would recommend a high quality PH pen.

I live near Kempton Park so the loadshedding schedule is also 2 hours a day 3 times a day similar to your area. I agrees the plants need 18hrs in veg however I thought it should be 18hrs continuous light and then 6 hrs darkness..Loadshedding can be anytime of the day I am sure you know how terrible it is esp being a grower so there is no way the plants can get the proper light at the moment without a generator.. Won't that affect the plants negatively? I mean maybe send the plants into flower early...

So @CreX did a grow using the gas lantern lighting schedule with great success, perhaps he can share more info here.

What else works is to set ones timer to be always on and let Eskom dictate the dark periods for your plants.
When load shedding is suspended, change the timer onto an 18 / 6 cycle - that is what I do.

watering also causes compaction, like our pots always seem to have less and less soil in the longer you been watering it down, so it can just aswell shrink the medium in size 😅

Yea, most certainly. Watering after putting soil in the pot helps to compact it a bit.

Lots of reasons not to use weight for soil. Therefore liters makes a bit more sense.

  6. I saw that Vtronic fan and own a RAM fan too and some AC Infinity fans.

The Vtronic fan is priced nicely, but I do not believe it has any speed setting, where the RAM fan has a low speed and high speed.

AC Infinity has 10 speed settings.

I decided to rather wait and get another RAM fan later on to replace my 6" with an 8"

  7. I guess as a soil absorbs water, it expands in size and therefore in liters.

Like coco, you can purchase a 5KG brick and it is small in size but then expands to 50L+ when added to water.

I think it is fine to keep the size the same but reduce the price. People are use to 30L bags for soil.

Coco typically comes in different sizes, typically 45L to 60L so no standard there really.

Makes sense to state that the bag is x L when at a specific moisture percentage though.

Also how compact the soil is plays a role too, I always fill up my pots, shake them and bang them on the floor and then top them up again.

  8. @David666 Welcome to the forum.

Some more recent pics will help, but 3 to 4 weeks of growth in the picture you posted seems a bit on the slow side.

Growing from seed is slower, but that seems to be a slower than usual. Various things can affect that, from the genetics to the soil, nutes, PH, environment etc.

To give you an idea, this pic was taken on 31 October, 2 weeks after the seeds sprouted a tail in paper towel and went into the coco (17th Oct) and I only got cotyledons (the first rounded leaves) around 2 or 3 days later. Both plants are in 20L fabric pots for reference.

As you can see, there is also a big difference between the two despite seeds going into water at the same time and sprouting tails around the same time.

Different growth rates is normal and acceptable, especially when growing from seed or growing different strains.

  9. learnt the hard way too with my previous grow!
where does that notion "it's hard to over do it with organics" even come from?
Probably the companies selling their organic stuff.

  10. Nice, I can already see the stupid In House stretch on the Jelly Breath has thrown a slight curve ball and you've topped it quite hard.

Excited to see how everything turns out.

Uhhh I had 2 Salton non oscillating fans, a 30 and a 50cm.. both stopped working within a year. My 40cm oscillating fans from Takealot or Checkers Hyper still run fine, the takealot ones now into their second year non stop running, SCE, paid something around 220-250 per fan. I avoid Salton.. quality of the motors seem to be crap. The fans look like new.. just the motors gave up doing the job.

Interesting, mine are still going strong - hopefully it stays that way.

The SCE brand from Checkers seems decent too, if mine do pack up I will consider the SCE brand box fans then. They are generally well priced.

Considering the Saltons are out of stock, perhaps makes sense for peeps to buy SCE instead then. I have noticed that some of the smaller checkers do not stock them, one may need to goto a Checkers Hyper to get.

  12. Sooo!

Looking for a bit of advice on herbicides, something I have never really taken much of a look into.

Want to get the garden in the new place sorted, done a bit already and cleaned up but with all the rain we have been having there have been a few weeds (not the type we like here 😛) popping up on the soil - so I want to get of them before I add a layer of landscapers mix and then lay down some grass.

Now I am lazy and during the day it gets very hot, so I have removed the larger weeds by hand and am just left with the smaller ground cover type of weeds. So someone suggested I look at spraying them with a herbicide, now I know Roundup lasts long so that is out of the question as I do not want to kill the grass I will be planting.

Apparently there is a spray which just burns the plants and does not stay on the soil and this will allow me to spray and kill the weeds and then plant grass on top afterwards.

Any idea which herbicide(s) I could use to achieve this?

This is the case. I would open them up and do a clean after every harvest. It's usually the gear that connects to the swing arm that oscillates the fan that gets all fecked, either it loses grip and doesn't oscillate as well anymore, or the motor gets so pup that it can't spin the fan and oscillate at the same time.

Okes that don't at least clean the blades of their fans are gross. Imagine chucking dust and kak onto your next grow from your last grow. Nee man.

It is not dust, it is terpenes and trichomes! 😛

Imagine chucking terpenes onto your next grow from your last grow? Mmmmm, yum! haha 🤣

  14. The quality varies between the different brands, a friend recently purchased a small clip on oscillating fan off Takealot and within a month it burnt and tripped the mains.

The design was not ideal with the oscillation leading to wear on the power wires.

Generally they do not seem to last long and they also do not move much air, they're not cheap either. You can get fans which are known to last longer and move more air for the same price (or less).

  15. Hey all,

So looking into getting the garden at the house going and one of the first things I want to do is lay some lawn and I'm looking for a hose end sprayer, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Ortho-Spray-Multi-Use-Hose-End-Sprayer/dp/B0071D0EZK

Ideally I'd like to buy locally as its quicker and may be cheaper too?

This just helps and makes it easier to sprays fertilisers (or Pesticide / fungicide) all over the garden.

Anyone have any idea where I can find something like this locally where one can adjust the flow rate etc.

@PsyCLown, please provide some links to the fans that you are currently using.

These are the fans I am using, I have mounted up at the top of my tent, blowing air downwards.

    https://www.stax.co.za/product/salton-sbf30wh-30cm-box-fan-white/

Seems that specific fan is out of stock, but you get the idea as to the type of fan to use.

Not all box fans move the same amount of air, I looked at some of these fans at Game and they seemed to move a lot less air. I think it was the Logik fans.

  17. So this grow is done.

I suspect the root aphids played a role in the lower than I'd like yield, the plants which were harvested a little later came out much better in terms of visual appearance and terps despite the root aphids but yield was down for sure. Bud is still good though, nice and terpy, very frosty and packs a punch!

The In House Genetics plants are not known for massive yield, but 35g per plant is rather pathetic.

Will see how it goes with the next grow without the root aphids but am looking at trying out some new strains which are not IHG... So y'all will have to wait for me to start that grow 😄
