For a 60 x 60 area I would grow an autoflower under a Mars TS-600, which is R2 900 at the moment with the standard 3 year local warranty fulfilled in Cape Town. Thanks @CreX

@BigBud if you're looking for a single quantum board to cover 1 x 1 m, then this Mars-Hydro light would be your best option. Still selling at the old exchange rate with a 3 year local warranty. We're expecting a 20% increase in price (minimum) in the next few months if things stay the way they are now.

How much instantaneous PAR from the fixture is available to plants (measured as Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density)? How much energy is used by the fixture to make PAR available to your plants (measured as Photon Efficiency).

Without a PPFD map it's a complete gamble. If your main constraint is budget, then maybe consider HPS or similar. If you are able to pay a bit more now and save electricity and cooling costs in the long run, then consider quantum boards. We have a quick comparison chart available here.

Get the right size Mars-Hydro Quantum Board LED grow light with the right size grow tent and save 10%. The spectrum produced by the Mars TS Series lights is closer to natural light and glasses are not required. Compared to the same wattage HPS, the TS Series LED grow lights are 50% more efficient. Electronics are by no means perfect, otherwise there would be no reason for warranties.

Have you considered other brands? DIY can be fun, but if it goes wrong midway through your grow you risk losing a lot of time and money anyway

As long as the wire being used is thick enough you should be fine. You could do some calculations, what is the wattage of the ballast and bulb?

Duties on food grade ethanol alone is R200 per litre. They could be selling close to cost or they are selling something that is denatured. 99.9% also contains Cyclohexane. Cyclohexane is used to remove the water content from the alcohol. UN1208
