Definitely get you some rope rachets to adjust the light hight it's much easier than a crate and crates won't work so well when your plants get tall.

The way you train your plant also looks a bit odd. You supposed to die down the upper growth tips to encourage the bottom ones to get light.

All the best

Light is currently on ratchets, crate was just the easiest at the moment...

Odd... right... let me Google Low Stress Training again 😊

@Stoukie, the par meter is a waste if you're not testing many light rigs or building them.

Like the okes said, get a pH meter and some rope ratchets. And @Pat999 is 100% right, how would you feel after4 hours of sleep :-hilarious

As for the training, have you decided which route you'll go? Looking at your space/light footprint, I'd go scrog for a nice even canopy. Making a scrog stand isn't hard. Check out some of the other grow journals, there's lots to gain from reading them.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.

The light bracket is currently attached via ratchets:

20190213_100956.thumb.jpg.9c33d8e158f19dc49c64a456bb9c385e.jpg

Was just easier to put a crate under the tray to lift the ladies, but obviously using the ratchets for what they are meant for is also a good idea 😊

Yeah okay so I stuffed up the training part a bit... was going for something like this (see pic below) but sort of did it half way... and wrong...

(Not my diagrams / pictures so not taking any credit for it)

IMG-20190213-WA0004.thumb.jpg.7ec112ff0f36d5db4715d9b5d383b5ab.jpg

Did a bit of Googling and found cool ideas of making a standing Scrog net with PVC piping, will try that next time, this grow I will just try keeping them ladies alive... with a little training...

Schedule now on 18/6, light off from 12 to 6 in the morning meaning 6 hours of complete darkness.

Right so I did a bit more reading and went with the following training technique (followed the diagram posted in previous thread):

Side:

Above:

Probably not perfect but bent the main stem horizontal and tried to tie the side branches out from under the main stem to the side and back exposing the branches to light from above.

Let's see what she does when the lights go on again, load shedding from 12:00 to 14:30 today 😖

Keeping in mind it was quite hot today and the room has no ceiling and a zink roof the readings are as follows, this is with light on:

In other words 30 degrees and 42% humidity.

Not sure if it's good, bad or okay...?

Check your LST, but 28 is ideal, you want to up that humidity to around 65%

Right, up the humidity, will add some water in a bucket next to the plants, should do the job.

It's proving quite hard to get the humidity up in the Cape at the moment 😕 I'm having to choose temp or humidity. Tents sitting at 30+ with same humidity. If I turn off the exhaust humidity rises but then so does temps. Looking forward to winter.

Today is a nightmare, hottest it's been in a while. I like the idea of wetting the floor, will give that a go, for humidity surface area not the amount of water is key, we see that in small scale in the egg incubator also.

Thanx for the replies guys, appreciate.

Hey guys,

Almost two weeks since my last post. Things are going quite good, the family has grown, I germinated two Glueberry seeds the other day.

Jack Herer the trainee is doing okay, grown quite allot, but some leaves are starting to curl on the sides, see picture. I subsequently moved the light a bit higher, but read it could also be temperature and humidity, the last couple of days was brutal and the little zink room was on 40 degrees with 20% humidity at one point, this morning it was on 21 degrees with 85% humidity. As you can see it fluctuates tremendously. Days are getting colder so hoping my temp issue will go away.

Little Vision Auto also grown allot, decided to not bother her to much so only stretched her arms a bit so the side colas get a little more light. I see there is a bit of nute burn on the tips... oops...

Right pictures:

Jack Herer with curling leaves, training method is a bad example of manifolding, basically just keeping her horizontal:

New additions, Glueberry:

Vision Auto, going strong, bit of nute burn on tips.

Hey guys.

Update time. Jack Herer doing very well, I modified the Future Farm Freedom pot a bit by adding eyelids to the rim of the material pot and tying down the branches with wire and hooks, I call it the Titan Tying Technique (T.T.T), inspired by Attack on Titan 😛

20190303_174440.thumb.jpg.79e5be48bcad1b071aa84a01d56a0339.jpg

Glueberry now on week two, also looking good (left hand side, right is Jack Herer from top):

20190303_174553.thumb.jpg.ea5550fc6b83cde04f584bd3c848b547.jpg

Also decided on putting the pots on plastic crates, holes in the bottom mean air get to the bottom of the material pots also.

Not sure if it is allowed to post a link but 'The proper way to water a potted plant' thread on 420 Magazine was really a eye opener, I watered basically every second evening but now wait until the pots are basically feather light, feels wrong but as the thread states building a root ball is important in veg phase... wait rather just read it yourself, its brilliant:

Hey guys, 3 weeks since my last update, quite allot has happened. Let's start from the top, spoiler I have a new addition to the family 😊

Jack Herer, sitting with a little problem here as she is getting fantastically big and bushy and feel like I should trigger her to flower, but I have to many others still in veg, so I was thinking of taking her out of my grow room every evening at 8PM and stash her in the outside bathroom until the next morning at 8AM just before I go to work, will be a bit of work but could work, right? A few pictures, keeping in mind I trimmed her a few days ago to get rid of some of the bigger fan leaves.

20190327_184610.thumb.jpg.f28e27a5dc430e02a62dc1aa8bb8e6a4.jpg

View from the bottom, low stress training worked a charm.

20190327_184703.thumb.jpg.9af5178a80a741af0952628a8c09c341.jpg

Next the Northern Lights Auto, its mid flower and looking okay, buds can plump up a bit more but looking okay considering she was outside in bad potting soil for most of her vegging stage. Would say she has a few weeks left still, what do you guys think, 3 to 4 weeks?

20190327_184527.thumb.jpg.3362b0ff1e07dd9c5ebabb48db3dce73.jpg

Close up, say cheese...

20190327_184456-2.jpg.a245863ecb1370ee0fdbe98fff9907a8.thumb.jpg.ae918c060727f7d77ee02ab5ea919837.jpg

Glueberry is next, they are 5 weeks into my first attempt at mainlining. I must say it's quite a nerve racking ordeal as every time the plant seems to start taking off you trim quite hard. The lady I started creating the mainline base early (2 week) is doing very well, the other one I gave a bit more veg time and only started at week 3 but due to the big amount of plant material I had to remove she went into stress, she going okay but the other one is doing well.

Before the last stage of forming the mainline base:

20190324_183415.thumb.jpg.d60273e139cebb6a88c9504c182db2ea.jpg

After forming the last stage of the mainline base, from here I will leave her alone and let the 8 colas that was created grow.

And lastly, the new addition to the family, a Blue Cheese Auto, she is only 10 days old now:

Hey Stoukie nice work throughout man! Like the room renovation 👌  How are you finding the change in vegative light cycle? 20/4 is all I run, you get very good vegative growth, root growth and your ladies won't feel tired I promise. I would recommend moving your Biobizz nutrients out the room into a cooler/dryer space, a bit scary seen that bottle next to a hygrometer sitting at 30'C.

Peace brother ✌️

Hey Jland, the 18/6 I'm currently running is working perfectly for me, must say a stable lighting routine is key. Will change to 20/4 when I'm only running autos, have a few 'normals' that still need to flower then I'm going to switch...

I have actually moved all the nutrients out of the grow room the weekend, was bothering me for a while now. Glad you also agree it was a bad idea to sit and cook them in the grow room 😑

Thank you for the words of encouragement.

Couldn't agree with you more Stoukie, a stable light routine plays a huge role! A bit difficult at times with Eskom.. bit we find ways to work around it.

Training looks solid and looking forward to seeing the outcome.

Yeah that Bizz will be happy in the shade 😁   Happy growing brother ✌️🌱

Your mainlining is looking piele bru! I do it with my photos when i grow from seed. I prefer mainlining to normal LST. I find the plant does most of the work herself. How many main colas you aiming for with her?

Thanks @CG420za.

I'm following Nebula's Manifold Tutorial on GrowWeedEasy.com where the main goal of your mainline base is to have 8 colas, 4 on each side branch (node 1 and 3). So far I'm keeping to the spec 😋

My one deviation that is kicking my OCD in overdrive is the fact that I somehow managed to break off one of the colas, see pic below, top right hand side, right at the end... totally screwed the whole symmetrical look and now only have 7 colas 😊 I'm sure I will get over it 😛

First time doing it, so keeping to tutorial, will see how it pans out...

Awe, i see the missing one. Strain dependent, you could top each one and end up with 16 shorter colas. But that would add some time to your vegging period. It's looking lekker still, even with the missing  cola. The one that's left on that branch will probably be your fattest one.

I didn't follow that tutorial, so my mainline looked different. You can check it out

      Hello growers
I would love to have an opinion on this topic. Let me update you on what I have been working with. I have a one plant indoor grow inside a 80cm x 80cm grow tent. I use a 40l fabric pot with both Orgasoilux and Freedom farms soil (green bag). The bottom half I use Orgasoilux(20l) and the top half I use Freedom farms soil(20l). Throughout veg all I give the plant is Biodyne Environoc 401 (microbes), Molasses and water. This results in an extremely healthy plant.
Once I flip to flower I start using organic bottled nutrients. In the past I have used Biobizz Bio-bloom, and more recently I have used Dirty hands inc - Bio-Phos (Jamie's brand). I give 3ml Bio-Phos once a week early flower and up it to 5ml every week mid to late flower. Plus a molasses feeding every 2 weeks and stopped using Biodyne microbes 1 week into flower.
I was thinking about completely ditching bottled nutrients and going the topdressing route for flower. I was thinking of maybe topdressing a week before the flip with Jamie's elemental blend. I am just worried if it will provide enough for the plants through to harvest. I was also thinking of maybe using my own topdressing blend of Dry kelp, Gypsum, Malted Barley and Worm Castings. Would love an opinion on switching to topdressing for flower and if the elemental blend should be more than enough to take me to harvest. If you think I should just stick to bottled nutrients for flower let me know. I am going to include photo's of my 2 previous grows using the method I have stated above. Just trying to get the best quality flower possible :)
      Some thoughts of mine...…
      Topdressing vs Liquid Nutrients?
Biobizz Bio-Bloom vs Dirty Hands Inc Bio-Phos?
One topdressing enough 1 week before flip?
Elemental Blend or my own flowering mix?
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      My Grow:
Medium: Top Half Freedom Farms soil (20l) + bottom half Orgasoilux(20l)
Additives and Amendments: Molasses + Biodyne Environoc 401 Microbes + Dirty Hands Inc - Bio-Phos + Mycoroot (seedling)
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      (Seedling)
      - Solo Cup + Freedom Farms soil + Mycoroot
-Transplant in week 2 of veg to 40l
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      (Veg Stage)
      - initial inoculant 2ml Environoc Microbes
-1ml per litre  Environoc every 2 weeks
-5ml per litre Molasses every 2 weeks
-Stop Environoc 1 week into flower
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      (Flower Stage)
-3ml Bio-Phos every week (early flower)
-5ml Bio-Phos every week (late flower)

-Stop Bio-Phos 2 weeks before harvest
      -Feed molasses until harvest

First time growing photoperiods, quite excited.

      Genetics
Hiroshima by Renegade Seed Co.  6 Pack

High THC, and according to the product description should deliver "high yields of dense, rock-solid buds."  Hoping to achieve that.
Want to make one a mother and start learning to clone. The description says "These highly stable genetics produce two phenotypes at most." Should be easy to choose a winner to reveg.
They advise topping, which I am also looking forward to learning. Want to also try "FIM" a plant or two to experiment.
      Grow Setup
      Same as before. Here
      ~
      Lets go
      9 November
Seeds arrived. Also received a Promotional 2 Pack of G-Fawke.

      10 November
Seeds into a glass of spring water. Onto a heating mat and into a dark cupboard to soak for 18 hours.

      11 November
Seeds started showing roots. All 6 seeds popped, gently took them and placed them root facing down in Jiffy Preforma Plugs.
Covered the holes slightly and into the ROOTiT Small Propagator they go. Heating mat underneath, and gently misted with spring water. Also threaded the hygrometer reader through a ventilation hole, to see the environment reading.
I think this reading is fine for germination. Any and all feedback welcome.

Hoping for them all to push out effectively over the coming days. In hindsight I should have maybe done the paper towel method to get the roots longer, before putting them into the plugs. I've also previously had a failed germination where I watered a bit much, so just gently misting this time as to not drown/stunt the seeds.

      Hi everyone,
I am currently looking to purchase an indoor setup for myself. Nothing fancy or big. Just enough to be a new hobby. I am always willing to invest in more stuff later, just dont have the money right now.
So basically my budget is Around R5k. I am willing to go over, but anything lower is always preferred.
I got a quote form MarijuanaSA and want a few opinions on it, or just a whole new quote for those that are willing to make one.

It seems to have all the important items in it. I can buy a few items that do the same at lower prices, like on takealot. I am looking at 0.8x0.8 or a 1x1 tents. What would be better? I want to grow around 2 to 3 plants at a time.
Then, I would really like a cheaper light to use but just cant seem to find a good option that is less than 1k...

So basically, I am asking for assistance in selecting all the basic items for my first ever indoor grow. Whatever saves me the most money and gives me enough items to get away for at least 2 harvests before investing more.
I already have soil and pots from my outdoor plants.
Any help will really be appreciated as I barely know what I am buying with indoor growing equipment.

I have a small list of just a few items that I am putting together to use as a purchasing guide. Here it is for a general idea of what im currently looking at:

      Good morning growers.
Currently have two plants vegging in my indoor setup and I noticed this morning my one plants is start to show pistils?? The light cycle has has been on 18/6 since seedling and hasn't changed since. Was wondering why one of the plants is showing pistils while it's under veg? I thought pistils only come once u flip to flower under 12/12 cycle. Not very happy because I wanted to still veg out the plants for longer and recently just topped them. If anyone can give an explanation that would be great👌😉. Plants have been happy the entire time with no deficiances, problems or stress. I would say it's been a perfect grow so far. And they are photo periods not autoflowers. Is it possible for the plant to shoot pistils and show its sex while still in veg?? Or is it guaranteed flipped. Thanks guys would appreciate your knowledge on this topic
