  1. This is great @Prom thanks for taking the time brother/sister(being PC, no offence intended). From my experience training autos is massively beneficial, but... you need to be on top of it all the time . Unfortunately I wasn't able to be with my plants everyday because I need to travel for work. I also found it very difficult training the plants with super tight internodal spacing, particularly if you start the LST in the early stages of the plants life. My experience... autos are super fun to grow! Make sure you acquire the best genes you can afford.

Wowzer, you and I do very different things when we're high. haha

    Very impressive though.

Then again, I do not even like running when I am sober. Much rather do different forms of exercise than run.

For me, exercise is more of a sober activity. I get high to chill and relax, so after doing exercise generally.

LOL! i don't want to  jack this welcome thread.

Lekker to join you all and contribute here so you can all learn from my mistakes..hehe

This is one of the most pleasant forums on the inter webs, so credit to the Mods for a job well done.
Not blowing smoke, but this forum is a far more pleasant than some of the US-based ones where everyone seems to be an expert on every topic.

Left my grow showered in Bioneem early this morning, so I'll take some pics over the weekend when my girls and boys aren't looking so grumpy.

@Heteropyxis - thanks for the encouragement cool cat.
Hit the streets again this morning.

So, I was sitting in traffic looking out of the window of my car and saw something that caught my eyes. A real South African beauty on the side of the road. I felt sorry for her. She had to stand there day in day out and nobody helped her...

    DSC_0044.thumb.JPG.13cc319311df0b9ce279b6ee4def6ddc.JPG

....I just couldn't get her out of my head. There wasn't one day I didn't think of her. Till I finally decided to dare it and take her home...

    IMG_20201108_072951.thumb.jpg.d5b794819a04307dfa5d5217d531ba38.jpg

...she was grateful I took her in, but most of her roots where on the streets and she needed a lot of tender, loving care. I honestly thought one day I'll wake up and she's gone...

...but it didn't take long till she felt comfortable at her new home. By now she's the shining beauty she was when I first saw her. These days we're doing everything together. We even go to the beach, smoke bongs and enjoy the view...

    Necro!

Im trying these out atm, does anyone know why they recommend Part B and MPK in flowering? I thought there is supposed to be no nitrogen in flowering stages?

I speak under correction, but i don't think you can cut N out completely from the formulation.

how would the coco be subpar anyway? thought it was inert and cant go "bad"?

Its not the actual material that is kak. Its the prep of the material, as well as the how and what it is blended with. You get coir, and then you get COIR. A lot of that is purely which brand is putting it's name on the label. You cannot compare products which come from BVB or Meegaa to some rando product that was purchased in Sri-Lanka. I am fully aware that the mentioned companies do source their raw product in these countries, but the quality control process is super high and the name backs up the quality. You cannot cut corners when producing these products, they soak the husks in sea water which means the EC levels are through the roof. Failing to rinse and dry the product sufficiently can/will be fatal to your crop. There are many stories of commercial nurseries loosing full blocks due the the poor prep of the substrate.

Check out these links below, for what i would say are two of the best substrate suppliers in the world.

    https://www.bvb-substrates.nl/en/

    https://meegaa.nl/en/

I've only had one dealing with the company mentioned in the article, they still had a warehouse in Kya-sands, jhb. I guess this was about 5 years ago. The business i was working for at the time decided to go with another local importer.

@Heteropyxis i see you have some sort of fix for this in mind currently.

i will still say stick to leaving them as is for now...and focus on your veg area and get rid of them there.

then harvest and clean your tent well and then going forward you should have little to no issues with thrips anymore

rather not taint your current harvest if the thrips arent that hectic

you can use almost anything and everything in veg. but flower time is especially sacred

Thanks for your input @CreX. Not applying anything to these plants at this stage. Just going to ride it out.

Bit of a tricky one, I have sprayed Pyrol in flower before and then I bud wash come harvest time. Pyrol works wonders for getting rid of thrips.

Alternatively, although its a lengthy process and may not be ideal not ... maybe for future reference though, you get a fungus which will grow on pests and kill them. That can be used during flower without issues I believe, it is called Beauveria bassiana and Argo Organics sell it under the name Bio-Insek.

A few other places sell it as well.

Thank you! Always willing to share!

depending how bad the damage is, i would ride it out.

pyrol will leave a funny taste on the maturing buds. i spray pyrol in the 3rd week of flower and that takes care of any populations that could cause kak.

the CO2 would need to be crazy high to kill the thrips via asphyxiation . but it will definitely make them not want to hang around and likely try leave the area, so you would need to keep it going the whole time in order for it to be effective as a pest deterrent.

When you say the whole time, do you mean for the next few weeks of flowering?

The damage is minimal, and i don't think it is at the stage where it will affect the plants performance to badly. The bigger leaves have the characteristic white spots where they have been punctured but that's about it, nothing to wild. Nothing dying off yet, maybe the plants will make the next 4 weeks.

It's a sign from the gods! :-bow

So basically you need to purge the tent of as much oxygen as you can and have co2 displace it. Once you think you've displaced with co2 you'll need to seal up the tent and let it sit for an hour or 2. With just co2 in the tent the bugs will asphyxiate and die. That's where the dangerous part comes in for you though. You need to make sure that you don't inhale too much co2 yourself in the process. If you pass out with a bunch of co2 in the air and a tank still releasing co2, it's tickets :-flyinghiS

Strongly advise you don't do it alone and plan it out carefully.

    How big is your tent?

Small grow,  Mammoth Pro 100, 1m² floor space 2m³ total. Seal up the inlet and exhaust and let the CO2 fill up the tent, can i leave the circulation fans run while this happens?  I'll be sure my master(partner) keeps a watchful eye over the proceedings.

You're quite deep into flower now and I wouldn't really advise spraying pyrol now... problem is you still have a few weeks to go.

That leaves you with few options right now. You can try control it manually by removing/wiping by hand. Quite tricky with thrips as they move around quite quickly.

Another drastic but effective measure is purging your tent with CO2 but this is a tricky procedure and needs to be done with caution as you could kill yourself.

I'm currently renting out a co2 bottle for homebrew beer. I rent from MyGas who sells 10L of co2 for just over R300. They then charge you R4-00 a day for the bottle rental. No deposit needed.... As I say its a drastic measure but it should work. Will give your plants a little boost in the process as well

DUDE!!!! My Gas head office is less than 100m form our warehouse! Thank you for the tip. I'm going to contact them now!

Does the CO2 kill them off, while boost.

    THANK YOU!

  12. Ez 420SA growers,

As per the title, I've discovered mother f***ing thrip damage on a few of the larger fan leafs in my tent. I am 4/5 weeks into flower and things are looking tasty apart from these little suckers(lol!) ruining my morning.

Can i spray this deep into the flowering period? I was thinking that a weekly spray of Pyrol may be of help? or should i just let them run a mock in the tent? I predict i have another 4 weeks to go for this run.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

I grew granadilla and got my first real harvest last year. If you spend time training them, you will be well rewarded. We had 3 Checkers packets full. Still got 5 or 6 quarts of granadilla jam. Your work looks super neat, are you hooking up a pump or anything?

Na I've just got bad luck with them, yours look like they going well!

That's why I ask. Mine seem to be doing fine even though I'm a ham fisted moron, LOL! Maybe it has to do with the genetic lines no having enough photo genes carrying through into the new generations. From what I've read on the interwebs, they have come a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way since they first started gaining notoriety in the industry/scene. I cant remember which forum member is embarking on a Swaz auto breeding program, I plan to watch that closely. The outcomes there are fascinating to me.
