There is a company which I think are in Fourways, Chromespec - never used them before, have reached out to them again to get more info.

They have all the proper lab grade equipment though, no compromise in terms of equipment.

I'm very interested in using their services. I'll check them out. Thanks dude.

So last night I cut down the blunicorn, bananium and the sugarcane (had some nice colour on it).

I must make an effort to post some pics of all the other dry bud, gotta take pics though and I suck at taking bud pics - my phone's camera does not make it any easier either.

I am considering sending some bud in to be tested and see what sort of potency was achieved with one or two of these plants.

Who do you send it to? If I'm not mistaken you're in jozi?

  3. Not much to report.

Over watering issue sorted, plants have recovered. Canopy is looking interesting, you can really see how the different genetic material performs. Clone selection could have been better, something to work on for the future.

This smaller plant in front right is driving me insane. The only solution at this stage is to move it to the back of the class, at least the stupid trays are earning their keep...

I put some time aside to try and take some better bud shots of the moms. I managed 15 minutes and then lost interest. Below are two pics of X1, her clones are the plants on the left of the tent. She was my No1 mother selection.

  4. Week 3 of flowering protocol

Had an over watering issue which is slowly sorting its self out, so the plants are not looking as happy as I would like. The overwatering has lead to dash to much Nitrogen and they are super dark green, but not clawing. The nursery bags don't drain sufficiently and I believe this caused a "swamp zone" in the lower few centimeters, a simple modification will sort this out chop chop. Buds are developing nicely and trichomes are starting to form on and around the bud sites.

The environment is something that has surprised me. I'm not using any device or unit to change the air that's going into the tent, just air from outside blasted into the tent and exhausted outside again. Left pic is first thing opening the tent this morning. Middle is minimum for the the last 24h. Right is max for the last 24h. I'm not sure if these devices are accurate, it's another thing on the ever increasing list of items to improve or get sorted.

    image.thumb.png.7588465f9e13f904c85538e1327f9d52.png

Canopy shot. Can see the coir is drying out, can also see the leaves are recovering after the swamp thing episode.

I am concerned about the steady sound of the exhaust fan droning on throughout the night and day. Does a carbon filter also aid with dampening the sound while scrubbing the air?

Thanks for looking. Negative or positive your input is valued.

I am in no way defending synthetic nutes or against organic nutes and ways of growing - however there are quite a few things being said here without any links to the actual soruces.

There are pros and cons to everything, sometimes what we expect is better or good can actually be detrimental to the environment - such as natural flavourings vs artificial flavourings. End of the day, they are the exact same compound once refined but the source of where the "pre cursors" came from is what determines whether it is classified as natural or as artificial. There are natural flavourings which are just not good for the environment.

Now back to the topic on hand. I think we can all agree that ultimately we still know very little about cannabis and how to achieve the best results from it, lots of learning still happening and even a lot of incorrect information going.

Flushing being one of them, there have been recent studies that point towards the fact that flushing does not make a difference (it's soo small, it can not be classified as a substantial difference). If anything, the data points towards the wants which did not have a flush ending up with better bud, a smoother smoke etc.

I personally have not noticed difference in taste between my soil grows and coco grows. The difference in high is also not noticeable, far more difference noticeable in the way I have grown it and the time of year, environmental differences and so forth. All of those make a far bigger and noticeable difference than coco vs soil or organic vs synthetic. Until more research is done and it can be proven, how true is it really? It could be placebo or changes in environment. Grow the exact same cutting year round with the same nutes and such and it can differ between grows.

Glyphosates (Round up) is a herbicide. The appeal behind it was that crops can be modified to not react to it, so that farmers could spray the fields with it and kill any weeds and such, without affecting the crops. I agree that the evidence points towards it not being good stuff.

However if we stay on the topic of genetically modified crops, we will have a vast array of views on it - it is not always a bad thing though, there are benefits to it for sure and when people breed just about anything (dogs, horses, fruit trees, cannabis) we look for certain traits (sometimes in the form of a mutation which is beneficial) and try breed that trait into whatever it is which is being bred.

@Naughty.Psychonaut do you have a link to the source of your info regarding the nitrates having these effects?

For all we know, it may be a particular fertilizer which is possibly even banned in lots of places or seldom used and the others could be rather safe in terms of consumption.

I do agree that the use of fertilizers and how cheap they are and the quantities they are used in is not ideal for the environment. For us home growers, quite a small compared to the loads of commercial farmers who push KGs of nutes to their crops.

Commercial farming is at the point where one gets their soil analysed and you get a fully customised chart which states what nutes and how much you need to give every week for each growth phase of the crop. We are all pretty much using a general approach for cannabis and have broken it down into a 3 or 4 stages of growth typically with regards to nutrients, I still feel there is a loooot more research which needs to be done and a lot more which we can still learn about the plant.

I do not feel one can say organic is better than synthetic or the other way around, it really comes down to personal preference and what you are looking for in terms of growing style. I feel that soil with organic nutes is certainly the meta and what companies are pushing at the moment. If you take a look at grow medium and nutrients and what is most popular, organic is more expensive. Don't be fooled into believing it is better though. There are pros and cons to both.

Thank you for this post.. You are spot on, particularly when it comes to commercial farmers. All commercial farmers worth their salt make use of an agronomist who analysis the soils and makes the calculations for amending accordingly prior to planting, as well as during to make sure the lands are as productive as possible, while not depleting the soil to a point of no return.

Regarding flushing.. again, you are spot on. The whole flushing thing is made up WOO-WOO.

  6. Ez 420SA,

I trust you are all ready for the weekend.

As per the title this thread has been created with the hope that some of you with photography skills would be so kind as to share some love covering the photography of cannabis. As I'm sure you have seen, I have zero photography skills and even less when it comes to editing. Ek voel baie sleg daar oor, I mean the grow is looking good, but I can't seem to show this with my potato images.  I have zero desire to hemorrhage my hard earned on a fancy pants camera and lenses and tripod and and and... For me, the money is better spent on improving or expanding the infrastructure of the actual grow or investing in FIRE plant material.

I know this topic is covered in numerous articles on a plethora of site, but I thought it would be rad to have to discussion covering this topic. I think it may even be a rad option for members to add their pics to the thread so members can track their improvement, or outcomes after editing.  The more you know...

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Took the trays out, packed them tight and cleaned out the lower growth.  I'm quite happy with how this is proceeding, but not sure what to expect in terms of yield. The objective of this grow was to try a different style of grow, and test my ability to propagate healthy young plants in the same fashion as a commercial grow. If you look carefully you will notice the plant in the extreme front right of the image is smaller. I noticed it had "topped" it's self. I've removed the weaker of the two growth points in the hope that it will still produce at least a little nugglet.

Canopy shot after removing the trays, looking pretty slick given this a first attempt. I wish I had a bigger tent, I think a 32plant S.O.G would look the SHIT!

I started jiu-jitsu in the beginning of the month. Just got back from my 6th lesson and I am wrecked every time. It's my fault though, I am always gunning to roll with the bigger guys. I weigh a good 86kg at the moment and the guys I go and decide to wrestle are coming in at 98kg+. I'll tell you what guys, I've never been so out of breath or physically exhausted in my life, but I can feel the power. Crazy how your perspective of size and strength changes when you start to manage some of the techniques in order to gain control of people bigger than you.

Very glad I have started on this journey. Next to growing cannabis this will probably be my next addiction.

Awesome! Jits' is something i would like to have a crack. I boxed for a number of years, but lost interest and the impacts started to worry me.

  9. Potato pic update.

I cocked up by not anticipating how much they would stretch and few of the girls are showing a little damage which I suspect is due to the proximity to lamp on Thursday and Friday. The ducting will be changed back to how it was originally. I noticed that the plant in the right corner was being sucked to the exhaust vent and tried to see what if there was a way around it. This is not an option, I'd love some input if you have. Plants are looking quite uniform, even though the image doesn't really show it. They are between 35 and 40-ish cm in height. @The_StonedTrooperlooks like they have tripled in size if not more.

I will take some time this week to clean out the some of the lower growth to ensure the main cola continues to be dominant. Still think i need to get the drip trays out so they can be packed closer.

Thanks for looking, always up for opinions, negative or positive as well as suggestions or guidance. Happy Monday!

Apologies in advance for any damage to your eyes while viewing my awful snaps.

  10. Finally back in town. These ladies are gluttons and have stretched proper. According to the cannabis for private use bill, we can have unlimited seeds, Seedlings and vegging plants(Schedual3 (a)section2(1)(a), and 8 flowing plants per household of 2 adults(Schedual3 (b)section2(1)(b). In this time I was away, the grow went from perfectly legal to illegal😢. A most unreasonable concept in my mind really, It would be a miracle to yield 1200 dry grams(Schedual3 (d)section2(1)(d).

I'm super impressed with the moms. They look very happy and are getting thick.

    Pics to follow.
