  1. lol, oh stop it another cool thing about organics is the longer you're into it the cheaper and easier it becomes till the point where the only input to your grow is the cost of electricity. and as we all know, solar power is the only reasonable future for us here in SA so we should be thinking about that anyway, for the whole house not just the grow.
  2. when you say airpots? you mean those black ones with the weird spikes?? bro have you noticed how theres a shit ton of material pots flooding the market right now??? those air pots are not the way to go brother...... what's pushing you away from the material pots and how did you land on airpots? those are gona give you more trouble than the autopots nute shcedules are not meant to be followed to a T, if you followed the Biobizz schedule your plant might catch fire, they call for waaaaaayyyy too many nutes. I look at nute schedules only for teetsy bits of guidance, very very minimal, when I think about what feed to give and how much, then I look at the plant. it helps to know the strength of the stuff you use, that's why I use biobizz. it's well reputed and straight forward to use.
  3. does this dude grow himself or he just works there? here's a little short story on how synthetic nutrients came into play I threw my synthetic nutes in the bin, only place for that stuff! I am not a commercial grower and I am not in it to cut corners, I am in it to grow good weed for myself. I don't have 1000 plants to look at all at the same time, so I can really focus on the needs of each individual plant. took me a while to realise the difference, but there's benefits in all aspects of growing organics, not only the end result. soooooo many benefits, but let me not keep singing songs about organics cause I know how offended people get when you don't allow them to figure it out by themselves. let's see how long it takes you to move over to organics with hand watering just because a pot with living soil and hand watering has been done since before christ it's seen as old and not cool and people are detered thinking "there must be better, easier ways to do this", but for real those egyptians figured it out man. reports of hydro/aquaponics go back thousands of years too, but when you look at the big picture every grower of every caliber has there "modern phase" where they dabble with all the cool new things, but sooner than you'd think they all turn back to the oldschool ways and all the modern equipment and other kak is just tossed to the side. or like me, it all hits the bin and you save the next person some time and school fees. even with commercial farming in the year 2022 where it's all modern you'll find a bigger number of organic farmers right now than you would've 10 years ago when synthetics was the conventional way. too many people have realised the difference that's why theres this universal shift happening at the moment. synthetics becoming a thing of the past. it was cool, but it wasn't better... synthetic nutes is the gimmick of cannabis growing, it's all marketing and attention grabbing. something new, something different, something cool, but that's about it. it has it's place in commercial farming, but even then it also has major downsides and a much more negative impact on the environment if you working on commercial scale you should be the first person to think about environmental impact... oh man.... there I go, singing songs of organics again!
  4. Hey bud, material pots with hand watering for indoor home growers are the way to go. autopots are like niche things. it's something different, it's something new with a group of ride-or-die followers, but nothing will ever beat the old school normal pot with hand water method. you'll be doing autopots for a while and soon find yourself running back to the grow shop for material pots to minimize the headaches. I've seen all kinds of questions surrounding autopots that make me ask, "but why?" so many componenets you never really know where the problem lies. the new aquavalves for organic feeding is nice, but I don't think organic nutrients itself should be mixed and left for more than 24hrs, otherwise you risk cultivating pathogens and unwanted bacteria. also organic nutrients interact with eachother and if left for too long and conditions allow it, you'll be brewing up some unwanted organic chemical reactions aswell causing PH/PPM swings just like with synthetics, since you got a reservoir feeding the autopots, the nutes go into water and not directly into the soil where it would have been buffered down to the right PH, what you got now is a organic situation that you have to measure ph and ppm with, so it's a cool concept, just not practical especially if you going after it to make less work for yourself. instead you'll be making more work for yourself. autopots work best with synthetic nutrients and even then you get build up. I ran synthetics through a big irrigation system. and I mean big.... 9 hectares of irrigation... after a year you cut open pipes and find salt build up. I don't even wana know what the pipes would have looked like if we ran organics. remember there's gona be times where the liquid inside the pipes aren't there, and that doesn't leave you with clean pipes, the residuals stay behind and dries up. this is where build up happens. with all irrigation systems. it's just much worse with organics than with synthetics.
  5. HOW. THE. FAQ. This has to be some sort of record man, I am thoroughly impressed, not that that means much, but seriously well done man!!
  6. woah!!! also very excited to see what you been doing with those grow lights!!!
  7. Welcome @DesignatedDave I use KHCO3 too, love it, but for a long time Neem kept me safe. always good to spray more than one product over long periods of time so the PM in your area don't get time to build immunity to what it is you spraying. stick with spraying only the KHNO3 for long enough you'll have the same problem. for indoor growers maintaining low RH with adequate FAE and constant air movement also helps a lot with PM. if you work with plants or in a garden a lot, also good to change clothes or even take a shower before visiting the tent. a lot of stuff present in our indoor gardens is stuff we bring there ourselves. Excited to see what you do!!
  8. Thanks I am working through to find keepers and make space, might shout for a cut soon.
  9. If you want I can make it available at a local clone bank, they distribute cuts far and wide, this way many many more people get to give it a grow. It sounds like something the clone bank would be interrested in. You know of DaggaFarmacy? I wouldn't mind growing her out myself, but I got a shit load on my plate right now. good thing about connecting with a clone bank, you always know where to go get that same clone.
  10. cold weather can really slow things down hey, plants taking much longer to suck the soil dry so probably very little root activity going on right now.
  11. Slowly but surely things are creeping in the cold, not much growth, but some changes I have decided to drop the Frosted Apricot, only exciting thing about my pheno is the way it looks. maybe I should try a different pheno, but since I got a heap of genetics to test out I grabbed the "next in line" trying to get 3 or 4 keepers out the bunch and drop the rest to make space for some seed batch pheno hunting. swopped the FA out with a Pineapple Chunk
  12. a good way to explain why good terpenes are just as important as good resin production is the "entourage effect" when you smoke weed you're doing thousands of things, you're experiencing smells and those smells cause chemical reactions in your brain. when you out smelling perfume or flowers with the lady, there will be certain smells that excite you certain smells that make you wana throw up, certain smells that make you think of your gran, certain smells that make you think of a time when you where a child... all these are highs that we experience from the terpene profiles that perfumes have and when we smell it, it stimulates your senses. everything has a terpene profile, "terpenes" are fancy lingo for "smells" when you get a weed that stimulates your sense of smell, taste, visual and all that fancy stuff, then you get higher off it than the dude next to you who doesn't get stimulated off those same things. and it's never just one thing. it's like a million things. to find the right one for you is the fun of it all.
  13. Well, you don't want the most potent weed that taste like You got good advice there, Prom will provide you with truth, the man got all the cheat codes for this game with this discussion we can look at the whole indoor VS outdoor thing. Outdoors = You got the clouds sometimes blocking the sun, you got birds flying through the air and potentially your plants, you got higher presense of all living things, you got all kinds of dust and shit covering your plant, some days you got strong winds other days no wind.... a bunch of minor things all contributing to a generally inconsistenct growing environment. Indoors = No clouds, no birds, less insect life, less dust, wind stays the same all season through, grower gets to easily manipulate environment to suit the plants needs. This directly translates to the difference in overall quality. the reason I put the "overall" there it doesn't mean increase in potency. sometimes you can make a fuckup and end up with something more potent, tastes or looks like shit, but has higher resin production than a plant grown in favourable conditions. to understand this, you need to know why a cannabis plant produces resin in the first place. they do it as a form of protection, this is why you can see the correlation between stronger lights = better resin production and vice versa, weak lights = weak resin production. let's look at torture test, when breeding and you finally got your new strain you wana stabilise, you gona start selfing that plant to lock in desired traits and everytime you get offspring you wana find the strongest, most prolific, pest and disease resistent plant amongst the new generation so you can carry those traits through, how do you find these traits? you grow the batch in unfavourable conditions. strong winds, never IPM and leave in a high RH area to check if it catches anything unwanted, too much light intensity and then too little light, all that shit you can do to stress the plant without killing it. through this kinda experiment you'll find a plant can produce more resin when stressed just the right way, but obviously not always and more ofthen than not you fuck up the plant in many other ways. so it's like I said, you don't want the most potent that taste like shit. you want everything environmentally to be perfect so you can get the full expression of the plants potential. you want the plant to express its terpenes to its fullest, this will make your weed way more enjoyable than just focussing on the potency.
  14. in the same breath, how many of us has had incredible looking weed taste like nothing or worse, taste like plastic or just not a pleasant smoke at all? I've had quite a few, not sure if the growers fuck it up, but for example, I bought into the slurricane hype when it just popped up, thought I would smoke some before growing it.... I never grew it, smoked maybe 5 different slurricanes. now I know the hype couldn't be based only on looks... cause that's all I got from it. my mind tells me out of a batch of 100 seeds you gona find between 1 and 10 favourable phenos depending on how stable the strain is. the rest is poopoo even though it still got the looks. and unfortunately that's what most of us end up with... otherwise "phenohunting" wouldn't be such a big thing.
  15. I remember buying weed from a friend he would always have a good laugh at me trying to pack all my buds nicely in the jars without damaging them, he would say "you gona smoke them before anyone gets to see them" then proceed to snap the biggest buds in small pieces and shoves it all in without care. so I just got more jars, fuck that irritated me sooo much these days it's out of the question, I got little time to waste and it's true, I smoke all my weed quicker than I can show it off or compare with friends and looks really mean so little when you start growing. I had a Sour Lemon OG by Emerald triangle, no bag appeal at all, very sativa-like looking, airy buds with a lot more sugar leaf than calyxes, not the frostiest... but for damn sure one of my more favourable smokes. got about 20g left and I am savouring it like I'll never get it again.
  16. if this helps at all, I would nudge you to decide against this. don't use synthetic nutrients with living soil. synthetics harm microbes and they're your saving grace when growing in living soil. so using synthetics defeats the purpose completely. if you wana use synthetics get yourself some buffered inert medium and you good as gold. if you wana use organics you stick with the soil you got, but change over to biobizz range. Grow, Fish & Bloom is all you need and you not even gona use it the whole grow. you sow the seed with clean water and keep giving clean water till it asks for food, cause it's living soil and packed with nutes. with synthetics in inert medium you don't have any nutes present and can't just give "clean" water, you need to PH it and try not give "clean PH" water for too long, cause there's no food so you start feeding when the first set of true leaves show. the two growing styles are very different and should be kept seperate for the best end results.
  17. why under? is it too hot ontop? heat moves upwards so if you wana catch some heat off the router you gona be better off placinf it ontop, you can also place a cloth or little towel over it to trap the heat from escaping upwards. 28°C is your sweet spot.
  18. oh shit! I'll keep my eyes wide open then, I've been lucky so far. I got 2 clip fans in each 1mx1m tent, one on floor level and one at canopy level. veg tent got a 10cm extract fan running on low, I turn her up on high RH days flower tent got a 15cm extract fan also running on low and only put her on full pump when RH is high moving enough air without causing wind damage and a religious IPM regime helps a lot and I think a huge contribution to a disease free grow is cleanliness. a deep room and equipment clean after every run like you in a medical facility, keep your hands and tools clean. if you ever see plants with PM around your house sort it out right away, if you work with plants a lot try to not visit your tents when not needed and shower or change clothes before visiting the tents as the chances of bringing in unwanted fungal or bacterial spores or even unwanted insects and shit in becomes much bigger if you around lots of plants all day. but yeah like you said PM is everywhere all the time so even if we don't work with plants or don't see it around the garden at all we have to prevent it from ever showing up by creating an unfavourable environment for it and that's gona be a different thing for everyone with some things staying the same for us all.
  19. did I miss something or WHY THEY NAMING THE EMPLOYEE AND NOT THE P*** THAT FIRED HER???? The precedent was already set when the law was changed, who the hell does this guy think he is? oooooh jinne I should get into law........ this is the personal feelings of someone in office at Barloworld surfacing and this guy is a complete idiot and can thank his god for the unfair bias, there shouldn't have been a court case except for the one against the company taking measures beyond what the law dictates. Barloworld and who ever is behind this is directly infringing on what his employees are doing on their own time, the fact that it's "dagga" the employee was using has nothing to do with them as a company since the law to use "dagga" on personal time and private property recreationally was passed. clearly this Barloworld poeskop has some personal issues with "dagga". smoking weed is legal, you cannot fire someone for having coffee at home. If you are breaking the law on your own time, that's a different story all together and the company can just get the law involved. not act out on their personal feelings and beliefs. the law is the law that's why we have it. Zero tolerance policies can dictate you get fired on the spot when under the influence of substances, even if they are legal, on company time. not that you don't get drunk over the weekend, cause that would be infringement. Was she high on company time? No. So zero tolerance policy se p**s. if it was illegal substance I would understand the probation period, but you can't put someone on probation for drinking coffee at home, you couldn't do it with alcohol or cigarettes, so why can you with weed? yeah, testing methods need to change. as for the whole bullshit they spin about the employee only using this defense tactic after she got caught out, well was there any special forms or anything handed out by Barloworld asking employees to state all substances they use on their personal time? legal and illegal? I am pretty sure there isn't, cause that would be infringement too. the employee wasn't too bright saying it's for medicinal use when it wasn't. there was no need for that, and now they have something to hold against her. if it was medicinal or recreational use has nothing to do with the company anyway. do they need to know if you drink coffee recreationally or medicinally? No. ALSO, does the company present a disclosure agreement upon hiring where people need to agree to not use dagga since working for them? I DON'T THINK SO, otherwise this whole thing wouldn't have happened. but because they chose to let their employees do what is legal on their own time, it's an unwritten and unspoken agreement that they can smoke weed at home. otherwise, to protect them as a company they needed to print legal documents to get personal information from their employees and newly hired staff, which would've been a hassle for them, because not even the fucking government can just come ask you personal shit you do on your private time and property. this is absolute BULLSHIT!!!!!! fuck Barloworld. they wana talk about setting a precedent and be a model for how things should be they need to get updated on the public opinion of dagga use and change their uneducated beliefs. fucking assholes potentially taking away someones livelihood from them and their dependants, an employee of 15 years, just cause of their lack of common sense... only precedent they setting is that Barloworld is being run by a shit-for-brains asshole. I hope there's justice for Bernadette Enever and I hope there is justice for the Barloworld cunt aswell. he deserves it more than her.
  20. I always thought it's 300w per m/2, this is what the LED gardener gives as ideal range, with 500 micromol/second on the leaf surface during veg up to 1500 micromol/second on the leaf surface during flower. as we all know wattage says very little, if I have 500w of blurple light I get way less micromols/second on the leaf than a 300w light with some nice samsung diodes with a much better PAR readout than the blurpy. but yeah man, I agree with ORGANinc, 550w samsung lm561c diodes in that space of yours is ample! my bar light in the 1m x 1m flower tent is 310watt, actual output 300watt, got the same lm561 diodes as him, less light to space ratio overall and I am doing juuust fine
  21. 20K for a 10 pack, christ....... with still a fat chance of not liking any of the 10 phenos you get out of the 100 + phenos the tree birthed
  22. thanks, saves me some time. strange that it would burn your pistils, mine seems fine after treatment. was the biggest worry before spraying so I made sure to check. I mix 3g of the KHCO2 and 2ml Jadam with 1L distilled water and spray only during darkness. how much you mix? Neem, even at half dose, turns my pistils brown and severely stunts flower production, the plant does nothing for atleast two weeks before I see any new growth, does this happen when your pistils turn brown from the KHCO2?
  23. people are willing to pay silly amounts. I have seen way worse than this, some new drop 10 pack photoperiods go for around 10 to 15k...... makes my ass gasp for air.... and there's no option to buy a single seed either so it's 10-15K or nothing. even with a shit load of excessive cash, which is almost impossible in SA unless you part of parliment, should anyone be thinking about paying that amount for some cannabis seeds. the guys paying those prices make it hard for the rest of us, cause it validates the prices. ...but then again, what's the point in telling someone with "enough money" how they should be spending it that's what they pay the financial advisor for I hope! I learn mostly through stealing with my eyes and ears and what I picked up is that price clearly doesn't translate to quality, as a lot of it is just hype surrounding a something "new". although the arguement can be made, because it's new it's better, but that's rarely the case unless the individual also sees a point in paying extra to get the new Iphone a couple weeks before everyone else, there is no common reasoning with that individual, because they clearly have too much money to have a normal constructive conversation with and offence will be taken... more often than not those first batches are the problematic ones aswell and they're the ones who need constant repair or replacement. anyway... with the right information you can "fish for" much better phenos when you jump on that new new from the right breeder and all that, but you still gona have to hunt for a good pheno. in which case I'll just hang around and wait till the local clone banks make the selected phenos available for single clone purchase. boycott high seed prices
