Good day,
So I would like to find out a bit more about cloning and keeping mother plants etc.
Hopefully you can assist with the below questions:
1. How old should a plant be before you take clones from it?
2. Can you keep a mother in a smaller (10L perhaps) pot and in essence keep her "forever" under 18/6 lighting without re-potting her?
3. Can you keep cutting in smaller pots (5L perhaps) until you are ready to re-pot and grow out? So let's say keep them in the smaller pot for a few weeks to a few months?
Keeping the plants in the smaller pots, I assume they will become root bound but will that really be an issue as I am not planning on growing them out at that point in time.

This is related too:

So I stumbled upon this, a little old by now but still interesting:
On a commercial level, faster yields are always welcome.
With time I am sure we will continue to see better and more potent strains coming out.

Lekker man! Having a nice IPM regiment during veg times really helps a lot I find.
Everything wants that GOOD WEED, peeples, sheep, dogs, cattle, flies, fungus, ALLES!
What is an IPM regiment?

I forgot to mention, when I used the rapid rooters I put some soil in some of them to see whether it would make a positive or negative difference and I was thinking more along the lines of moisture control.
When transplanting from the rapid rooters to the pots, I noticed that the seedlings which had soil around their raid rooters were generally larger and the roots had berried themselves in the soil and there were more and longer roots.
I had to carefully loosen the soil and then gently pull up on the rapid rooters. There was one seedling in particular, unfortunately I did not take note of which or take pictures however the tap root was super long compared to the others.
Next time I will most likely germinate in paper and then plant straight into soil, or if I do use rapid rooters I will place them inside some soil in a smallish pot.

So I repotted the seedlings and so far all is looking good.
Im starting to struggle with space and the limit of power I have for the LED's is not helping at the moment.
I've topped (or tried to) the bagseed plant to see what happens. Not sure what more to do regarding LST on the bagseed plant, I'll watch more videos and see what's best to do.Below are the plants which are growing faster, except Choc #2 - the slowest out of all the plants. Took forever to germinate and become a seedling:
Here we have the rest of the plants, which are a bit slower:
The bag seed plant, which I am using to experiment with:

I just used a dome and some rapid rooters to get 13 seeds going and worked a charm!
You can look into my grow diary if you'd like to see, basically from seed to first leaves in 5 days. I had a heating pad and a heater in the room which I feel helped.

I read you must not do this as the food can become depleted and you end up with a monoculture and just adding more food doesn't yield the desired results.I had a look online and really like that vortex system... Seems like a medium level DIY project
I need to research more, do you just keep the tea brewing indefinitely and just keep adding new microbe stock and food.. Or what?
So best to mix a new batch of tea before you need to use it.
I think most people do 24-36 hours of brew time.

So what have you decided to do?
Also why are you using 4000K during flower as opposed to something with a bit more red, such as 3500k or 3000k - just for interest sake.

Keen for the pics!
I assume no more leaf curl and such?

Very cool experiment @Stoukie
I see online the auto's do well with the LST training, not many topping their plants, love a bit of good ol weed tinkering!
One could also coordinate the topping of the plant with prior dose of MycoRoot (or similar) as well as EM1 if it is available, this could minimize a lot of the shock and really assist in recovery.
Cannabis plants take quite a bit of mutilation in nature (ofc sometimes the plant doesn't survive), bouncing back and growing stronger than before is not uncommon.
Recent findings also show that LST and certain techniques like some defoliation, etc can actually increase the terpenes and possibly resin production. These tests were most likely done on photo strains.
Its only natural that these tests get done on autos!
Mycoroot (This is just mycorrhizal fungi, correct?) and EM1 (microbe inoculation), I guess this would help in the sense that the fungus would help bring nutrients to the plant and the extra microbes in the soil would break down the nutrients and make it more readily available to the plant?
I think it would be a good idea to use both regardless of whether you plan on topping or not though.
I assume the LST & defoliation would assist in the sense that more of the plant gets light and therefore it can create more terpenes and resin? Which would make sense, I guess that is why we do LST and defoliation and so forth. Try expose as much of the plant to light as possible. Try force the plant to grow in a manner in which it can utilize the light better.

That is madness, 2 months? Perhaps it did not get enough water until recently?
Curious to see the total dry weight once you cut the remaining branches.

I got some pots today which I turned into Insta-transplant pots, so will repot in those in a few days time once the fan leaves are a bit bigger.
Then they will probably go into 20L fabric pots as their final pot and hopefully these insta-transplant pots will prevent any transplant shock and will work well.

Note 7 Pro! ..Nice
Euforia is the smallest of the three (big pots), Short Rider rear left, AK48 on the right. The rest are random crappy photo seeds.
Yep, I read the same about autos, I popped them in a bit of Jiffy Pellet placed in the soil, since apparently Freedom Farms says it's not conducive for germinating (I'm gonna give it a try next time anyway, also read some reports that it's not a problem, perhaps marketing trying to sell their germinating mix).
Thanks, loving the phone! Was a mission to get though as it was only released in India & China.
Nice, will certainly be watching your grow and the Euforia plant.
I think I want to pick up some FF germination soil as well and give it a go.

Nice, why no training on the Daiquari Lime?
Curious to see how the CBD Crack handles the topping.

Nice, which is the Dutch Passion Euforia auto.
I've also got some seeds.
Autos should not be repotted, so not sure if you have it in one of the big pots or not?
If not, you can consider cutting the bottom off on the smaller pot then placing that inside a larger pot and hopefully it won't disturb it as much.
EDIT: You've got a few plants in there, what are the rest?

I plan on using console jars and adding the hygrometer myself to the lids with some food grade silicone. Will add a Boveda as well to the jars.
The cvaults and such are just too expensive if you're harvesting a lot of bud.
I'm thinking the Console canning jars.

Remove the dome already!? I'm concerned the rapid rooters will dry out.Dome off, in your medium, under the light. Seedlings love it. Will curb the stretch..
Or do you mean plant them in pots already?

They're not at full power. 80w per board at most. That's why I said dial down the wattage of your boards. You don't want to nuke them.
The small plant (bagseed) is loving the light. I've raised the light a bit more now for the seedlings sake. Will see how they handle the light.
Could one put the seeds into a medium (rapid rooter, jiffy pellets, soil), then into a humidity dome and straight under some lights (lower wattage) or is it best to let the seeds germinate before placing them under some lights?

Yes, I start all my plants under my LED's.
Thanks, I've moved the humidity dome to under the LED. I thought you needed give the seedlings less light?

Think they can go under the LED already?Drop the light lower and/or drop the wattage of the light. You don't need 200 watts+ blasting them (can't remember your wattage just saying).

The seedlings have made some progress.
The small plant has turned up again to face the lights. My humidity has dropped a bit so I've put a bowl of heater in the room to see if it helps increase the RH.
Waiting for all seedlings to have their first set of leaves before I put them under the LED light. Might raise it at first too, don't want them to burn??

I realised I never posted pics of the bagseed seedlings.
The one my cat dug up died, so just one remaining. Hope it's a female.
Around 3 weeks old and just started some LST, see how it goes.

So this morning I noticed some of the seeds had sprouted.
Waiting on the one Chocolope still (middle).

Pot size for clones & mothers (Bonsai Mom)
in Cloning & Propagation
Posted
Thanks Pat,
That really helps, what happens if I try and keep the plant in a smaller pot for an extended period of time?
Will it simply start to die?
@Green Leaf Organics in my previous thread you stated you had some mother plants for a couple of years.
How do you do your cloning, what pot size do you use etc?
