  1. I certainly think so, more so than the cannabis itself!

It's a fun hobby, perhaps with time I may tired of it as it becomes more of a hassle than a fun activity - we shall see and only time will tell.

For now it is fun, keeping me busy (perhaps too much) and certainly draining my money.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. I'll def check them out. If anyone else has info on whether they work, or the yields are as good/better than HID's then post and I'll be sure to see it. Thanks!

I stand to be corrected, although generally you will get better yields (Grams per Watt) from LED compared to Metal Halides and such.

So in a sense, more efficient.

Never new Cannabis growers are such tech geeks as well!!

Geez, I feel like such a noob here. I just came here because I wanted to know if COB LED's work well or not and whether they generate high yields... lol.

Then I get all these guys not only using COB's, but actually assembling them themselves and talking about technicalities that are waaay beyond my capacity. lol.

Haha, it can become very technical.

COB's and Quantum Boards both work well, I am personally using Quantum Board LED's.

Zepherfarms sell Infinity AC fans. Pricey

    Found them: https://zephyrfarms.co.za/product-category/environmental-control/

Not terribly priced, if they had the ones without the RH probe it'll be even cheaper. I have not started using mine yet, although reviews seem good and product seems good.

Built in fan controller with I think 6 fan speeds and a smart function and they last at least.

Just messaged the guys now, apparently they can get this one: https://www.acinfinity.com/component-cooling/inline-duct-fan-systems/cloudline-s6-quiet-inline-duct-fan-system-with-speed-controller-6-inch/

For around R1650 landed, no probes but has the speed controller at still.

Well that is the reason behind the forum, it is a community.

If you are not doing it for the community, then why post it on a public forum? Keep your own private grow diary.

The opinion and experience of others is what drives this forum, amongst many other forums. It is a part of how we learn - learn from the mistakes of others, as well as their success. Get insight from those who have done it previously.

The grow diaries are a way for other members to see how a particular grow has turned out can be a nice reference to compare your grow against. Especially if the conditions are similar or the strain is the same.

  6. I would suggest fans.co.za. You're essentially buying wholesale and avoiding the large markups from the grow stores. I've got 2 hydor fans from them running strong no issues.
Paid 1400 for a 8 inch silent fan and 800 for 6 inch silent
edit: email them for a quote and then organise a courier to pick it up from them or if you're near an office of their organise a collection
How quiet are those silent fans and do they have any speed controller?

Also which model(s) are the inline / centrifugal silent fans?

AC Infiniti can be imported through Amazon as well, for those who may be interested.

Awe bru. I am planning on planting them over the weekend. Need to go get some supplies from Hydroponics. All outa coco peat and perlite. Also gonna line the walls with white plastic sheeting & My new light should also arrive around Friday. So got a busy weekend.

If you are on a budget, consider a flat white paint as an alternative. May be cheaper.

  8. I have 6x 288QB's, so total of 720+ true watts from the wall.

How much is a HPS setup for interest sake? Can't you get LED's for a similar price?

Like how much will 1x 400W HPS setup cost? I believe generally one would get better yields out of an LED light compared to an HPS light as well interms of grams per watt. I have had no interest in looking into any lighting other than LED's.

  9. Day 14

A quick update regarding the plants. I will no longer be posting updates on the Chocolope plants in this thread, you can view the progress on the Chocolope plants in their thread over here:

I had an issue with burnt leaves on 3 of my plants, not sure whether it was light burn from the LED's or whether the plants were not happy with the soil. I did not feed any nutes to the seedlings, they all got the same and have all been under the same lights and same environment etc. They all received the same soil when transplanted as well and the 3 which had their leaves burnt was all next to each other therefore I suspect light burn.

The burnt leaves seem to have slowed down growth a bit on these 3 plants although they have bounced back and are growing strong.

The one GDP #2 was affected quite badly and I thought it would die, so I transplanted it into a mug so I could use the big pot for one of the Chocolope seedlings. I think I damaged the Chocolope in the process but the GDP seems to be recovering as it has sprouted new leaves and is growing! Very impressed with how resilient the GDP is. As you can see, it is the smallest of the low, albeit understandable.

The Sticky Icky (Girl Scout Cookie x BB#3) are by far the fastest growing plants. All 3 are growing faster than the rest and I am really eager to see the end results!

My CBD Critical Mass is doing very well, which I am most happy about as I only had one of those seeds and plan to clone it when the time is right.

Bruce Banner #3 and GDP are about on par in terms of growth.

The overall growth on the plants is really good I feel, the bag seed plant is doing well too - although the leaves have a bit of a weird colouring to them and I am not sure whether it is just new growth or if something is not 100%? The colouring on the leaves are not quite uniform, the inner part of the leaves seem to have a bit more of a lighter colouring  in a way... It has increased in size and bushiness quite a bit over the past 2 days, I am not 100% sure how to train it at the moment as it is very bushy and the stems are not growing very long and underneath the top leaves are even more nodes.

Perhaps I started with LST too soon and should have let it grow a bit taller first?

All seedlings have only been given plain water and water mixed with EM Pro Soil. Next wateringI may start feeding with low concentrates of Fish Mix.

Bag seed is receiving fishmix along with EM Pro Soil.

    @Zaskar09 glad it arrived safely

I would suggest around 6.2 but I don't PH my water with the OM soil and my tap water also comes out at around 8. The soil will buffer the PH but you can PH your water for good measure if you like.

Do you provide any nutrients for the plants or just microbes and AACT's etc for the soil and microbes?

Awe, i get that. Maybe later on as grow bigger?

No, very unlikely. The characteristics you are likely to see are those which can appear in multiple other strains.

It is like being blind folded and driving in a car and then you have to try identify which car you are driving in. You probably have a better chance of guessing the car than the cannabis strain. Chances are if this is bag seed, it is mixed with pollen from multiple different male plants even.

Grow it out and enjoy it, regardless of what it may be. If you want to know what cannabis you're growing and smoking, get some proper seeds and label everything and take it from there.

Doesn't most organic mixes have bark in them?

The bottom is Organics Matter soil.
The top is Freedom Farms soil.

Freedom Farms works well, I'm trying the Organics Matter now to see how it is.

  13. I personally would not buy pollen as you have no clue what you're actually getting.

Rather do some breeding yourself I reckon, although you need to breed a few generations to pick out the best traits and make them dominant and to have consistent results from the seeds.

I use this on my vegetables:

    https://biogrow.co.za/garden-spray-programme/

It’s different mixes alternated every 14 days, it works really well. It’s from the same guys that make Pyrol and covers both the fungal and pest sides.

Prevention really is better than cure.

Hmm, interesting. Does it list the ingredients?
Bioneem sounds as if it may just be neem, haha. is that the case?

The copper soap sounds appealing, is it safe to spray on the buds too? A spray every 2 weeks does not sound like a hassle, Powdery mildew does though!

  15. I am intrigued as to what it actually is.

I am thinking eggs or fungus / mold - sort of like mycelium in a way but circular egg like structure is a bit odd... As Trailblazer said, put some in a separate jar and see what happens. If it's fungus, perhaps the mycelium will colonize the rest of the soil.

@PsyCLown I'm planning to have a couple of bonai mothers. This article explained it quite well: https://www.growweedeasy.com/how-to-keep-a-bonsai-mother-for-unlimited-clones

Pretty similar to my "real" bonsai it seems, just more frequent pruning 🙂

Thanks, very interesting read and actually does not seem like a ton of maintenance.
Interesting on the lower amount of nutes, I guess you do not want tons of growth really. I will certainly be giving this a try!
