This looks a matter of intellectual property infringement and, unfortunately, unless you obtain a patent (plant variety rights) for your breeding, it would basically be impossible to claim infringement of intellectual property rights. PVRs are also difficult to obtain (although encouraged to do so) and requires thorough testing for a period of 2 years to determine the following:

Distinctness

A variety must be clearly distinguishable from any other existing variety by one or more characteristics.

Uniformity

Individual plants of the same variety must be sufficiently uniform in a range of key characteristics.

Stability

A plant variety is considered to be stable if it reproduces true to type from one generation to the next.

Plant Variety Rights are granted for a period of 25 years for all species except trees, vines and potatoes, which have a period of 30 years.

It may be in your interest to browse through their strains to see whether this has been done before with other strains in which case social justice can be taken through means boycotting and whistle blowing, although, one must be careful not assume infringement as it may result in defamation and thereafter damages.

Then a local guy I support soil wise gave me soil towards the grow, how he found out I don't know. So a big thank you to Jou Ma se Soil although I changed to Just Cannabis at the 11th hour.

@Light It Up reached out and asked if I had a decent light and offered me a 240w QB for the duration of the grow. No strings attached, put it back in the box and return to sender after the grow off. Or purchase it if I wanted to.

When heating and your mixture bubbles, there’s alcohol present. I also take a pin and dip it into the mixture and try lighting it for indicators of alcohol remaining. If there’s no sparks or doesn’t ignite I’m happy. 

while I can’t test it, using those two indicators I’m pretty confident that there’s is no alcohol present in my final extract or at the very least too little to be harmful in micro doses.

my effort was very make-shift but plan to get beakers, magnetic stirrer hotplate and distiller for a more controlled extraction. Just really wanted to try it out and had the perfect testing bud.

I've said it before on this forum, buying seed is a gamble you take. Suppliers cannot guarantee the outcomes, in fact nothing is guaranteed. The way to get the exact same outcome is to use clones.

Although germination is out of their control, seedbanks should assume the risk of defective goods as they also the ones who accept seeds on behalf of breeders and sell them as viable seeds. Whilst this would seem unfair to the seedbank, the seedbank itself should have a claim against the breeders for defective seeds and hold them accountable for defective goods.

A reason (in my opinion) why Cannabis seeds is ONLY industry where consumers expect refunds for seeds that do not germinate is probably due to the expense of the seeds itself. Also, A normal pack of seeds of other plants don’t usually get sold in small quantities of 3-5packs so one or two seeds not germinating is not usually a loss. 

With that being said, you are right that it is a gamble and agree that you accept the risk of seeds not germinating and take it as it happens, however, when germination rate is 75% or lower, (on the face of it)indicates poor quality. Most seedbanks have disclaimers which require you to follow a trusted method of germination and produce proof of non-negligence on your side which can minimise fraud on side of the consumer. 
 

If breeders cannot guarantee 85-90% germination rate then they should at least provision for that by providing additional seeds or in the form of freebies. We charged per seed in the cannabis industry so breeders receiving income for what turns out to be defective goods is an injustice to the consumer and has a responsibility to make it right. Unfortunately they cannot tell before hand what is defective or not but at the same time they ASSUME quality of their seeds which later turns out to be defective. 

There’s creative ways in which seedbanks can operate that satisfies consumers whilst still not operating at loses of having to refund through creation of consumer accounts where discounts can be applied, freebies can be given to provision for defective seeds.
 

More also needs to be done on the part of breeders who assume quality. Fastbuds is a great example of a breeder that have their ducks in a row. They have serial numbers on every pack that can identify batches of seeds so when a consumer claims defective product, they can actually check and see how the batch germination rate is at which can aid seedbanks when determining negligence on the part of the consumer.

Hi all, today I did my first alcohol extraction.
 

I used larf and trim of my friends poorly outdoor grow. Helped him trim and got it for my time  

1. I grounded up the weed by using a blender. 

2. placed weed in a Pyrex dish and in the oven for 30 min at 110*c to decarb.

3. then filled two mason jars with half of the weed and 500ml of herbasol each.

4. Let the alcohol extract for 15-20min.

5. used a sieve, cheesecloth to separate bud from liquid. 

6. with the remaining liquid, I let it stand outside in direct sunlight for 30-45 to remove the chlorophyll. The liquid changes from green to amber colour.

7. then cooked the alcohol at a low heat until the bubbling stopped which indicates all the alcohol has evaporated. 

my final result was 4.5grams of extract. The purpose was to make Vape juice with it so mixed it with 80 ml (60/40 vg/pg) base. In theory, I believe each ml is about 55-60mg of THC. Tried it out now and got a nice little buzz from it. 
 

safe to say the method is quite simple and easy. Possible issues that I’ve noticed was:

1. Not 100% sure all the weed had decarbed.

2. When evaporating the alcohol it’s uncertain that my mixture went over 150*c thereby burning away the THC. Next time I’ll make sure I use a thermometer to be certain.

Should price be factored into the equation? FF seems to be the most expensive whilst having the least amount of amendments in it?

ive only used orgasoilux so my input is rather irrelevant in the sense of comparing it to other soil mixes.

I’ve only used +- 500ml of my dirty hand inc nutes after 10 plants(4 harvested + 6 at week 5 of flower). 

ive also purchased their elemental blend to re-use the soil which saves me from buying soil for every grow. I’ve even added it to my local nurseries potting soil(yet to use it) but in theory should work out.  

so for me, orgasoilux is a winner as it packed with nutrients that can take you from seed to harvest without nutrients and is the R20 cheaper than FF which is probably the considered the best soil mix in SA. So in the long run, you saving money on rebuying soil and nutrients which can be used on seeds and equipment. 
 

Probably also have my plants a well needed defoliation as well. With all those plants on top of each other, it’s a wonder I didn’t get any PM with my mites.

You can spray just the leaves whenever you want in flower bit not the bud, def needs a bud wash if late in flower. Some peeps just spray the spiders of the plant with plain water , but you need a nice force just to you not braking the leaves more or less

Yeah man if a bud wash is required then I’ll take that over having my hard work be undone by these fuckers

I may give more vigorous (water)foliar sprays here on out, just to at least slow the infestation(should it still exist) until harvest. 
 

@The_StonedTrooper @Fridgethanks so much for you feedback. I decided to spray all the plants, but gave the last 4 a rinse(with a pump sprayer) 3 hours after application. 

I thoroughly spayed stem by stem the neem and pyrol, under leaves, in buds to kill the pests. 

my thoughts were that they instantly(fairly instantly) kill the mites and confident that every mm of the plant was sprayed so should do the job to stop the infestation on those plants.

the two more affected I have left the spray on as they were quite badly infested. I actually saw some webbing underneath the buds.

The plants are on day 1 of week 5 of flower. I’m thinking the most developed plants will probably require another 3-4 weeks at least so would a bud wash still be necessary? 

These four plants are close to finishing  but also have the mites on them after close inspection. Should I spray them as well? I could give them a rinse before lights go back on?

@GGG @Fridgethanks for suggestions max dosage. Would have followed the instructions on the bottle otherwise.

gave 10ml pyrol and 5ml neem oil per litre. It turns out they are red mites. Gave the two plants a full clean.

how long should the plants be in darkness? I’m assuming the light and the pyrol burns the plants? And do I rinse off before turning the lights back on?

I read that as well earlier. Crazy thing is I moved my fan about 2 weeks ago because a few plants were suffering windburn.

My nursery down the road has this product. Will this sufficiently get rid of them? I’m pretty certain it’s spidermites as the two plants affected buds are not as developed as the others which show no symptoms and read they can cause undeveloped buds. 
 

Was looking up spidermites online and I believe they are the issue as the symptoms as almost identical to my leaves

I didn’t notice any webs, and can’t find any thrips or any bugs whatsoever. I can’t completely rule them out as I found some on other plants which is quite easily identified with the banked eye(not cannabis), although far away from my tent. Can these pests cause problems with flower growth? 
 

I am using soil and yes theres marks on new growth but more affected under the canopy. I make use of dirty hands inc nutrients but only feed once a week, although this week I gave the plants two feeds. 

the weird thing is that I have 6 plants quite compacted and only 2 of them are affected, the two of the same strain. Wouldn’t all my plants be affected if it were pests? Unless they love the lemon pie terpenes which I must say smells amazing
 

I have two plants(of 6 plants) that’s exhibiting the same deficiency. 
 

there’s somewhat white specs on the leaves and mild rust. 
 

the buds are also underdeveloped compared to the other 4. Although the two showing the same deficiencies are the same strain whilst the other 4 are different strains(all 6 fastbuds) 

my initial thoughts were potassium deficiencies but gave the two plants two full feeds and while they haven’t gotten any worse, they don’t look like they getting any better. 
 

Has anyone experienced these symptoms or have knowledge on how to correct them

Hey everyone, forgot to update this thread but went last week Saturday and collected some coal and added about 10% to my soil.

thanks for all your feedback, grabbed some soil as well to do a compost tea with probably this weekend. 

planted some butternut and going to adding broccoli and spinach this weekend as well
