  1. I live on a farm that are specialists in veld and fynbos (specifically to the West Coast) propagation. Although it's far from cannabis it seems to work.
Apparently no side affects from what I've researched on Google.

Thanks for the tip. What are the ratios when mixing it into the soil?
  2. Howzit brother. It was sold out last time that i checked. Probably easier and safer to pay a little extra and get something that has the correct ratios of ingredients rather than trying my luck with mixing my own and probably burning my plants. Thrive seems to be the best value for money so far.
I contacted the guys at Thrive and unfortunately the shipping to Cape Town was about R2000. Guys are super nice and friendly, just wish there was a cheaper option as I also wanted to experiment with their soil.

  3. As a late comer to this poll, am I allowed to suggest our own soil, Thrive Living Soil from www.thrivecentre.co.za ? We tend to find that a lot of soil producers try to throw the kitchen sink into a soil, without really understanding what elements do what. The whole "bullshit baffles brains" approach. So, for instance rock dust can stall your plants if you haven't also included indigenous microbes collected during the winter months. That is because indigenous soil microbes move deeper down in the soil layers during winter, in order to decompose the tougher mineral matter, versus more usual organic matter in summer months.
Some of the key components to get right are obviously your base NPK ratio. We aim for around 6:3:2 with a strong and sustained Nitrogen boost for initial growth, and then a slower and more sustained release of Phosphorous and Potassium for fruiting and flowering. Getting the timing right is important and that's where the inoculated biochar comes into play. It's also important that the composting process introduces living, microbial matter into the soil food web, and that it finds a home in the biochar, establishing a symbiotic relationship with the plant roots. A good living soil should give you at least 2 full strong growths without refeeding with compost and/or organic fertilisers. Although you really want to be feeding and fertilising your soil, and not the plant i.e. the plant needs to talk to the soil for what it needs, and not let the human try and force feed the plant.
We are exceptionally lucky in that our soils have excellent natural mycelium and perfect pH for cannabis, developed over thousands of years in Hogsback. That is something that no soil producer can ever reproduce on their own.  We also produce most of our own amendments, such as our oak and bamboo biochar (Japanese style) which also gives us superb wood vinegar. This is not that well known in South Africa but wood vinegar is probably your number one all-round Natural insecticide and fungicide. As far as I know we are the only ones producing it in SA, as not that many have sustainable oak and bamboo resources. It is Nature's own plant immune booster, root growth stimulant and flavour enhancer. You can read more about it at www.woodvinegar.org
Wow, your prices are very very good. I will buy a couple of bags and test them out during this outdoor season.

  4. Bro this looks unreal. So what are your thoughts about Karma's work?
How's the smells and bud density?  It looks like you have some epic bud to leaf ratio.  And very well done on that 4 pot scrog. Your tent looks packed, and healthy AF
Shit I wanna rock that strain now :-hairpull
Same here, really want to grow it this outdoor season.

  5. how did I miss this thread!!
very very usefull and motivating information here!!! mr Psyclown hit the nail on the head with the question I wanted to ask, but also have already gotten my answer on another thread!
just wana give a credit here, a close friend of mine grew a chocolope cut he got from a guy a while back. he said the name was chocolope something something. not a serious grower so wouldn't expect of him to know the name and this was before I was on the forum and neither of us knew where the local genetics came from neither did we take any of this serious. joining the forum it didn't take me long to figure out, that had to be some of mr. Totemics work!
So even people who aren't aware of who  Totemic really is are already growing your stuff and you are making strong impressions and firmly embedding your roots deep in the community and got supporters spreading good words I am sure you don't know of!
my hat goes off to you sir. @Totemic
this is epic! what shop is this?

  6. What an interesting few months it has been. The culmination of 1 year of pushing totemic as an official brand in SA, I have distributed a little over 45 000 seeds, 15 000 regulars and 30 000 feminized seeds. I feel it is important for me to share this with other local breeders not at all to flex as some are assuming, but to illustrate how big the local industry is, how big the need is, and how much of our economy is still flowing out to the international market. I feel I'm drowning and can't keep up with the market!
I'm not here to compete with other local breeders. Breed your fire. Let's grow this industry together.
This is awesome news to read and many congratulations. I went to a nursery the other day which was recommended by@Stinger96 , just went to browse and see what they stock.

Apart from the wonderful guy and lady that owns / works at the place, the abundance of amendments and nutrients etc I also saw a cabinet with your seeds in which could be bought right there and then. Was really refreshing to see.

Keep up the good work and thanks for always sharing your knowledge.

  7. It looks like it is root bound and to much nitrogen for so late in flower.
Would you say veg time was too long in the 10L pot? I have tine lines of the grow and if that's the case I will make a note to flip earlier.

Thanks for the insight, still trying to dial everything in for this year's outdoor
  8. She is nearing the end and may only want water.
That curl in the leaf could be overwatering and nute burn that's progressing.
What you'll find with the green Gelato is that it does not fade to purples and reds. She goes light green then yellow.
Did you ammend the soil before the switch? They look like they hungry, some of your leaves look pale with green vains that may suggest lack of magnisum aswel. If harvest time suggests 29 June, than it's reaching the end of its cycle and it's just eating whatever nutritions she has store left, I wouldn't worry to much if that's the case
Thank you for the help guys, appreciated. I think I over watered before turning off the taps. I amended the soil before I flipped yes.

Thanks again, very excited for this plant.

  9. This is a green gelato from Totemic which Im growing. The plant has been flawless and vigorous the entire growth except for the last 5 days, not sure what is going on.

The flowering window is from 29 June.

    Living soil

    Rain water

    Totemic bloom mix

    Outdoor.

I noticed the plant looked a bit droopy a while back so I wrapped cling wrap around the pot. I find the bottom half of my soil is compact or something because when I water the water will drain out of the pot half way down, until it reaches the compact area, no idea why this is happening.

I have tried not watering as well as over watering but the plant still looks the same.

Does it look like an issue or is this just signs of the end being near? The leaves almost feel like paper and the leaves are just curling down.

  10. In the doses you are giving the MPK I have not noticed damage to the micro herd, in both my own soil mix and on FF premium.
You are not getting the benefit of the P solubilizing micro organisms working though since the P you are providing is already plant available and can can be immediately taken up.
While most mineral forms of P found in your rock dust ammendments are made available at an incredibly slow rate.
    Awesome. Thank you very much
  11. After recently getting indirect feedback from a grower who measures his input EC to his organics, found his EC reading was lower than usual so he bumped up the EC using only the bloom blend and probably gave 3 or 4 times the recommended dose. That quite simply locked his plants up.
This bloom blend does not work on its own. You have to use a fish hydrolysate and mollases. This blend being partly salts, is meant to be used as follows:
1ml fish hydrolysate, 1ml molasses, and 1ml of this bloom blend per 1l of water, with every watering. From the 3rd week of flower. You also don't raise the dose as you go through peak Flowering. The dosage stays the same.
It's a matter of constant micro fertigation to sustain a healthy plant.... Being over eager and over feeding does not mean a yield increase
I would like to try this bloom blend on my next grow but still need to read up on the ingredients. Im growing in living soil so just want to know if theres any of those ingredients that would be harmful to the microbes etc. Im mainly thinking about the MPK.

Thanks for sharing this knowledge, it makes it more fun and interesting growing this way, learning along the way.
  12. When your male starts doing this
    IMG_20210528_112022.thumb.jpg.de5e542491e04cad9f40d8bb01be9c94.jpg
Can't wait to see his expression in a week or so more...
Apologies for the kak question but what am I looking at here, besides it being a male? What is it in the picture that excites you?

  13. I think using a bain-marie is easier than watching a thermometer. I.e. water in a pot with another container in the water, then the max temperature can't be above ~100C

I see that https://ethanolsashop.co.za/ has a similar product for extracts. I'm still not sold on denatured / Iso for extracting. One day I'll create a thread so we can all argue :)

I actually wanted to start a thread here last week regarding denatured ethanol. I want to make a tincture but not sure if you can ingest the denatured ethanol.

  14. I've found and this is me, that I am moving away from the Swazi and other land races or less smelly plants.. I'm now all out going for the smell and taste.. The better the terpene profile, smellier that is, the better.. I prefer the taste and smell above a hard hitter.. Don't get me wrong, some of the following kick Swazi ass..
My prefered strains for 2022 and I'll probably stick with them for a while, is Elvis, Bubblicious, Hermanus, Chockolope x NL, Chockolate Gelato, Bubbleberry Glue,Tortoni, Gelato, Zurple Punch and LGO.. The rest of the year will be spent on finding some more to add to that Line Up. I enjoy variety and a day and night time smoke.. The sweetest and this is real sweet smelling must be Totemic's Chockolope X NL..
    :-peace
Where did you get the Elvis from? Ive heard of it for a couple of years now but could never find it, not even bud to smoke.
  15. Thanks, although I really do feel that strain makes a big difference and breeder too.

You can clearly see the other 2 autos are quite small and growth has not been on the same level despite the same conditions.

Once again, at this point, the autos cannot compete with photoperiods in terms of frost.
I can see that the structure also isn't on the same level as some of the photos I have grown.

It's a known fact that auto flowers typically have a lower potency compared to what one can achieve with a lot of photoperiod strains.
24% is really high for autos, around 30% is really high for photoperiods.
You're unlikely to achieve these figures with just any strain as well, so on average potencies will be lower.

What I am saying I guess is that you should try grow some photoperiods, you may have a better experience and get some better bud too - just ensure you get some quality strains from good breeders.

Yeah definitely. I was just envious when I saw your plants but its true what you say regarding genetics.

    Keep up the good work.

  16. An update on my autos, it feels as if they are taking forever to form bud! However it is now starting to happen at least.

Wish my autos would look like this. Nice work.
  17. Thanks all for the valuable inputs. I am not planning on making or breeding my own, was always just a thought in the back of my mind.

Also never knew they used chemicals to achieve this, not that there's something wrong with it, just interesting.

So thanks for scratching that itch guys, really appreciate it.

  18. THIS!... does your wife also give you kak the next morning?
Hahaha, no. She sits next to me, with the munchies.

    I will normally go through;

1 big bag of bubbles chips, with some dip
    1 slab chocolate
    2L cold drink
1 packet of rascal or some other sweets

And then also whatever I can find in the kitchen. Its rough, we have to gym a lot to keep up with the eating

  19. It's a longer flowering pheno, and maybe has 3 weeks left. It's flowering season outdoors now, and I'd rather reset my tent, than keep it going for just 1 plant.
Ah ok thanks for the explanation. I was wondering if there were some science behind it.
