  1. Yeah, it definitely does. That is the tradeoff, smother smoke, less smell but less flavour. Probably better for edibles than smoking because of that. Yeah, definitely. I've got three different strains of mothers I'm starting on now. Exciting times
  2. Great thanks! For a while there it did not look like cannabis at all
  3. Hi and welcome @highjinx I'm also fairly new to cannabis, but I'd 100% agree with @Dank there. Start really slowly otherwise you or your wife can end up having a bad experience and be scared off and end up missing out on the benefits. My wife takes cannabutter most days and that has worked really well for anxiety. You just need to start with a very low dose and slowly increase until you get the effect you want. Just remember with edibles it can take hours before you feel anything, so it is easy to over do it if you are not careful. Making your own oil/butter is quite easy and then you'll have a much better idea of how strong it is. Good luck, I hope your grow goes well
  4. Interesting thanks. I've been adding new clones so I've kept it closed the whole time. But yeah at least one of the clones did not look that great after planting in soil. I'm now letting them root under very weak lighting, I'll see if that helps
  5. I did not clone my cali-orange before it flowered. So at harvest time I cut a few stems to try reveging. It has been pretty successful but there was some really strange growth initially which I was not expecting. Firstly the plant started looking a bit unhealthy which I was expecting. What was strange was a few club shaped leaves on quite long stems and then a few leaves with very smooth edges. Is that normal? The new growth is now finally looking healthy so I'm guessing it was just while the plant was adjusting to the rather severe changes I forced on it
  6. Quick update on the water cure. I made cannabutter from it the other day. I usually mix water + coconut oil 1:1 so that the water will wash out the minerals, chlorophyll etc. In the past that water has always ended up quite green. With the water cured buds it was almost entirely clear even after 8 hours in the slow cooker. The final cannabutter has almost no taste at all. So if the taste bugs you in any way this is a great option IMO. (And there is barely any smell when smoked either, even less when vaped. Stealth weed! )
  7. The bubbler is way simpler and seems to be working very well. Its as ridiculously DIY as possible Small CFL light in ice cream container resting on the lid Two plastic containers of the same size make a good humidity dome Bottom one filled with water Fish tank air-stone + air-pump Fish tank heater at 21C Two ice-cream containers with holes cut in them floating in the water. I've used polystyrene to make plugs for the holes and hold the seedling stems. Stems are in the water. (I've seen it done both ways, in the water was simpler and seems to be working fine for me) I did end up using the ultrasonic mister, on for 15 mins every hour, to keep the humidity up. But I'm sure that misting by hand would work just as well My first 5 white widow clones from the bubbler about to be planted
  8. Nope . The ultrasonic humidifier gets quite warm, the water was around 29 C, way too hot... I had to get an air pump and convert to a bubbler
  9. I had a cover over the plants but it was not closed so there was no "humidity dome". The kush clones (top row in pic) all wilted terribly overnight. I've made a proper dome and cut the leaves in half (suggested multiple places online, to reduce transpiration). Within an hour the clones are already less droopy.
  10. I've just made a clone box from some supplies I had lying around. I'm trying an ultrasonic mister as I've heard that they work as well as a bubblers. The mister is floating in a block of polystyrene to ensure its always at the required depth, I've got a small fish tank heater running at ~22 C and a single cool white 15w CFL. Lets see if I get any roots in the next week...
  11. I'm busy doing cannabutter right now as it happens . Good luck with the caps
  12. Hi @Stinger96, here is a graph that shows effect of heat on THC content. You need to heat the flower to convert from THCA to THC (etc), notice how the THC content peaks and then slowly declines. So follow the graph roughly to work out the time and temperature you need to get to the peak but not too far past it. Also are you doing alcohol extraction or make cannabutter/oil?
  13. I've been looking at vaporizers for a while and finally decided on a dynavap M 2019. I've never been a smoker so vaporizing is very appealing. I initially discounted the dynavap range as I thought a battery operated vaporizer would be much more convenient. However after looking around and getting some advice it seems like getting a cheap vape is a bit of a gamble. I considered the Via which is relatively cheap but I've seen a few negative reviews saying that they tend to break and the battery goes flat quickly. The vapes that do look good are way to expensive for me at the moment. My dynavap arrived yesterday and I'm way happier with it that I thought I would be, and I had high expectations . It is pretty small and does not hold a lot of herb but certainly enough for one session. Using a torch lighter is actually really convenient as I'll never run out of battery. It does take some getting used to though, where to heat, angle to hold etc, but there are plenty of guides on youtube to help. It is also the cheapest vape that I've seen! I'm extremely happy, I think even if I had a good quality electric vape I'd still want one of these around. For whats its worth from a newbie, I'd highly recommend one.
  14. After seven days curing, the water was almost entirely clear at change time. So it was time to dry After drying for 24 hours I perhaps had the fan too close, so possibly dried them a bit too much...? But I'm assuming that is less important with water cured weed than with air dried, since the curing is already done and its just a dry. The original wet weight was ~450g, the final dry weight is ~75g so ~17% of the original weight. Which is pretty much what I was told to expect using a water cure. It looks good under the scope too Overall I really happy with the harvest from my first ever grow.
  15. Hi @Jrmiehazefvr, I'm also a newbie here, but perhaps giving some more detail will assist people in helping you further E.g. Do you have photos of the plants? What led grow light? How far is it from the plants? Pics of your setup? How often do you water? How old were the plants? What does "keep dying" mean? Has this happened before? At the same stage? Any chance you have an idea of the temperature grow room/area? Bag seeds / from a seedbank? Auto/feminised etc? Hope that helps and good luck
  16. I recently ordered a small bong from @Puff.co.za and a vaporiser from vapestore.co.za and was hugely impressed with the service from both. Both stores kept me updated with the order progress and answered questions very promptly. @Puff.co.za also included a bunch of surprise extras in the with order and they donate to Fields of Green for All! Very impressive from two local stores. I definitely recommend them both.
  17. What is the benefit of making/using cannabis oil? I'm wondering because as I understand it the extraction seems potentially unsafe (butane / iso which could in theory have impurities), or using ethanol which seems hard to come by. So why go this route rather than an infusion (cannabutter etc), rosin (hard to extract too I guess) or hash etc? Is there some particular benefit? I'm a bit new to all this, so I'd love to understand more. Thanks
  18. Five days in the water now. The water is fairly clear and does not have a particularly strong smell. I'll give it another day or two to be sure. The test bud dried nicely and further testing was very successful
  19. I dried a single bud today to see what it would look like In the water they greener than this, though duller than when then first went in. The dried bud looks very dark as expected. Even at this magnification the trichomes are visible Under the USB scope. No shortage of them here For comparison this is what the curing flower looks like now. Quite a bit darker & duller and a fairly large reduction in volume from the original (see pic above).
  20. Hi, I'm a first time grower and very new to using cannabis in any form. I've just completed my first grow (see below) and am now trying a water cure. This forum looks fantastic, I'm looking forward to participating and learning from everyone.
  21. Hi all, This is my first ever grow and so far I'm pretty happy with the results. I started with some Cali Orange bag seeds in early Jan. I could probably have done things a little faster but there was a fair amount to learn along the way By Feb the seedlings had started growing well Mid-Feb I had started some training and trimming (fimming) I then planted them outside (Western Cape) using scrog. I started with five plants Early March (as I remember..) I was covering the plants every night and uncovering in the morning to ensure a 12/12 cycle. Two of the plants were male and were destroyed Mid-April the hairs on most of the flowers had started browning and the trichomes looked milky under a USB scope Which meant I could harvest for the first time I was quite surprised by the amount of flower that I got from the scrog. It was flower practically all the way to the base of the stem. I've left some green on two of the plants to see if perhaps they'll keep growing as I did not take enough clones or start a bonsai mother. After trimming I had around 450g of wet flower. Which is way more than I expected. I decided to water cure the entire batch as it sounded like something interesting to try I'm on day five of the water cure now. I think I'll leave it another two days and then if the water is clear I'll dry them for ~24 hours. I've not worked out how I'll do the drying though... Luckily I have a couple of days The water is already reasonably clear, though I am changing it twice a day and using tap water. Perhaps I'll find some R/O water and see how that looks before I'm done. The flowers still smell really strong, and there is *no* shortage of trichomes, so I'm not worried about the outcome at all.
