I use 2 per tote , mediums/soil stay moist at the core of it longer than the sides so I put mine length wise a 3rd from each side , that gives a almost even moist medium from my experience. I have used between 3-6 drippers per Blumat and they drip 10-15 cm from the sides . First dripper needs to be 8cm from Blumat's and the rest as you please , I try 15-20cm apart.
I'm doing a run with the Blumat soaker house now , so far not to bad .

Thanks for the tips. Can you set the carrots to maintain the dampness in the tote, so you don't have any run off?

100% you can, this is how the system is built / designed.

Gives you the flexibility to adjust how damp you want the medium to be kept. When it drops below a certain dampness level then it starts drip feeding until the dampness level is back to where you set it.

Blumat tropf carrots are pretty awesome. IMO a far superior automatic watering system compared to one which uses a timer. It ensures each pot / tote only gets water when the medium has dried up enough.

@GGG Where did you get the soaker hose from? I want to try some out before placing a large order.

@Twix Aphen Your plants are looking great, I have some 3000K LED bulbs with an E27 connector which came with the house, but I prefer a higher Kelvin in my house so they're sitting around gathering dust.

Would you have any use for them? Perhaps add them to where the males plants are?

@PsyCLownthey sell the soaker hose on marijuana SA. R67 per metre. I was just looking for prices on the carrots and drippers. It's going to cost R1200 to set up enough for 2 totes.

I use something similar to water my compost piles with.large.IMG_20210708_100019.jpg.b14660fcd4d02dc1881955b600fa26ec.jpg

I currently use a timer, tank and spaghetti tubes for watering during flower.  I flood into the trays every other day and let the pots suck up the water overnight.

Thanks, but I still can't shift the lime colour from the two big girls though. They don't look so lekker, right now.

I will claim the bulbs too, cheers.

Cosmoroot fell behind and the clear winner was kelpak and aminomix, in this round. I will also try to conduct a better trial with my next round of clones. large.IMG_20210702_115750.jpg.db2cb0aa1a8f2a99bb22d0b1f202451b.jpglarge.IMG_20210702_120122.jpg.8c469c596f2e44857eafa96be388d5bc.jpg

On the back of this experiment, I've bought some Cosmocell H-85 humates, which is part of the ingredients in the Cosmoroot. I'm now using 0.1 g in 2 litres of water

Tap water v chlorine, I still can't tell any difference between the two. I'm satisfied that there's no problem with using water straight from the tap. 1.5 ppm of Chlorine is nothing to be worried about and the pH from the municipal supply is spot on at 7.1large.IMG_20210710_183211.jpg.72dc4ed58c7bf7f538e47115d63b82ac.jpg

No difference between the two, in terms of health, size and vigour.

I am starting a new test with plant matters v mycoroot v control to see if I can see any difference in seed germination. large.IMG_20210713_154138.jpg.a5d680fabf75d87861714383b61a735b.jpglarge.IMG_20210713_155920.jpg.6f24eabbd0714f75ac2eeb48fc2101e4.jpg

They are improving every day. Epsom salts, fulvic acid, malted barley are the other things I added too.

When I remember, I must put on some more kelp, rock dust and worm castings for a final top up in the pot.

These have had a nice growth spurt since they were put under 50 W of LED. Touch wood I haven't seen any more spider mites, but I will keep on spraying before flowering. I haven't done any sprays since I let the persimilis loose.

I've cloned the garlic and put her into a 25 litre pot now. She has got some vigour and is going to need a cane for support soon.

I'm feeding these young ones from the bottom now. It's just easier for me to put the water straight into the trays and let the plants suck it up slowly.

The normal tap water rows were the two on the left. The centre row got tap water + kelp and aminomix. The 2 rows on the right were treated with de-chlorinated water.large.IMG_20210703_060627.jpg.d93fc7b6a8671c8cc457840997484733.jpglarge.IMG_20210703_060741.jpg.3a3bb803df70c48f03d95566c22649f8.jpglarge.IMG_20210703_060717.jpg.c0a8410298775f18aa956a0cbabf7bd7.jpgThe centre row grew bigger with the additional ferts but the 2 sides are almost identical. The same root development and number of side branches. The chlorine fed plants are just as green as the others.

They all stayed in the small pots for the trial, maybe  a week longer than was needed but I wanted to keep everything equal. All the rows got a little bit of tip burn and I gave one spray of Epsom salts before I transplanted them.

Good that you are actually trying out these things for yourself to see what works best.

Not many challenge and put these theories to test. Will save you time and money in the long run for sure.

I would like to encourage everyone to  test these claims made by the manufacturers and sales teams. Don't take my results as proof of anything and to conduct your own experiments, at home. How else can we be certain that these products are up to standard? Every claim made is anecdotal, until it can be proven.

I don't want to shit on mycoroot, but is it compatible with cannabis? I've run this trial several times over the years and can never see any benefit from using it.

Dr Jo Dames is highly respected and she is like our version of Elaine Ingham, but I've never seen a positive response from mycoroot, on my weed. Either, the spores aren't active or these microbes don't have a relationship with cannabis.

They get a lot more expensive in their liquid form. biodyne 401 did nothing positive either, so a higher price tag doesn't mean it's a better product.

Neither of these labels, or websites mention the type of fungus, or the number of CFU that is supposed to be in their bottles. I think it's a combination of slick marketing and placebo effect that gets people using these products in the first place.

It casts some shade over the biodynamic and organic marketing methods, if they resort to selling snake oil to make their profits.  A home made worm bin, or compost pile works, it costs nothing and gives brilliant results because the microbes are fresh and still alive.

21 Watts of cool white seems pretty sufficient. The ones directly underneath the lamps are starting to dominate the rest.large.IMG_20210713_225300.jpg.7bc6130d3b103679b4f72a3057b10232.jpglarge.IMG_20210713_225245.jpg.10e21c9712f28e8bbc177f1ee6fa83c7.jpgi put the 6 biggest into 25 litre pots of old soil. 3 of them are potentially males so I need to watch them like a hawk when I flip 'em.large.IMG_20210713_233913.jpg.89a93bbe430c63748f364e21f167a3e0.jpgthe two small ones at the front are double sunset and Tortoni fems. they look really strong, especially the double sunset. she's already caught up with the previous generation of clones. Are those normal cool white household LEDs?

Yes man, 3 of them together are bright enough. It's quite surprising how well they work. I  did pull the cap off one lamp and am using it to flower with, but these 3 I thought it was best to keep the diffusers on for the young ones. The light gets thrown out more to the sides and spreads out more.

Do you also use household bulbs to grow with?

@Pants I stopped keeping mother plants a long time ago, now I'm just a serial cloner. Air pruning also works well to build equal growth from clones.  You need a clone tray with big holes at the bottom and raise it up off the floor. The roots will prune themselves and you don't have to take them out the tray and cut any roots.
