  1. OCD, and I don’t want to mix them up. Even the next two pots are already labeled
  2. I grow vegetables, generally I toss the floaters (seeds are way cheaper) because they either don’t germinate or take too long.
  3. Morning guys, So they’ve soaked for 12 hours and they’ve now gone into their Jiffy homes. I was a bit worried at first because the seeds floated but they both sunk after about an hour. Quick question: Can I place them under a 600w HID as soon as they sprout or is it going to cook them? I find lots of conflicting opinions about this. Thanks!
  4. Howdy all, This will be my first grow so feel free to critique where necessary. Strains: HSO Amherst Sour Diesel, HSO Three Blue Kings I’m growing indoors in a DIY cabinet (check the cabinet thread for Frankenstein Build), I still have to build the doors but figured I have a day or two before they pop Light: 600w HID (Lumii Black) Medium: Freedom Farms Premium, I might switch to my own soil (Reaf’s Original Mix) later depending on the timing. The soil is still cooking. Nutrients: Not 100% sure yet but I’ll probably stick to Seagro, Nitrosol and AACT. I think that about covers it. Seeds have just been dropped into some shot glasses to soak and will then be going into some Jiffy pellets. Any words of advice is more than welcome! P.S. I absolutely love HSO’s packaging. That’s a little lazercut wooden block with a glass vial waxed in!
  5. It’s not a bad thing if there’s a few earthworms in my super soil right? I make my own ewc and I guess I missed a few cocoons when I harvested my castings. Do you think they’ll survive the cook?
  6. @Pat999 @Bospatrollie2 Will do, will probably only get around to it over the weekend again though
  7. Hi all, Since this will be my first grow and I plan on mostly growing outdoors (when the seasons allow) I didn’t really want to spend money on a tent. I decided to build a cabinet with stuff I had lying around. The only thing I bought for this build is the light. It’s not quite done, I still need to build the doors, seal the joints, paint, tidy wiring and install ducting (which I’ll also have to buy). Size: 1m x 1.4m x 1.7m Construction: Steel angle iron (repurposed shelving), 3mm Masonite (white one side, left overs from kitchen redo, that’s what’s on the back of your cupboards), Active exhaust (6” bathroom ceiling fan, my wife complained it’s too loud for the bathroom), passive inlet (for now, I’ll see what the temps do), 600w HID light (magnetic ballast, outside cabinet), I reinforced the roof with a few planks so it doubles as extra storage space. I built it in an outside store room, the room has a corrugated roof with a ceiling and it’s shaded by a big tree. It’s always a bit cooler in there than anywhere else on the property. Let me know if you have any suggestions. This wasn’t supposed to be a stealth build, I know it looks suspicious af.
  8. @Trailblazer420 Magnetic, it is outside the cabinet
  9. Quick update: I was a bit busy this weekend. Not nearly done yet but it’s getting there. Like I said this is a Frankenstein build, the only stuff I bought is the light. Still need to build the door, seal the joints and paint. Light: 600w Lumii HPS (will get MH lamp) Extractor: 6” bathroom ceiling fan (ducting into roof space still needs to be done. Passive intake, 1m x 1.4m x 1.7m. I made the roof a bit stronger than needed for additional storage space. Excuse the mess, I still need to clean up the wiring etc (and the room)
  10. Hi all, I used to sit behind a desk the whole day, sitting behind a desk allowed me to follow my dream and buy a small farm. Now I’m a part-time organic vegetable farmer, full-time father of one. Just about to start growing (on request from a friend) haven’t smoked in 15 years, but will definitely sample my own
  11. Old thread but links are still live. Thanks @Toby
  12. Lol, thanks, I saw the confirmation page and their details but didn’t save their bank details. My order is listed on the “my orders” tab (on hold) and the item I purchased is “out of stock”, there was 1 left before my order.
  13. Morning all, can someone tell me what the ordering process from @TrophySeeds is like? I placed an order earlier today but I didn’t save their banking details as I assumed I’ll get some form of confirmation e-mail. Haven’t received any correspondence yet. I asked them for their banking details via their “contact us” page but also haven’t received anything yet. Just to be clear, I’m not complaining, I’m just asking whether I should expect an order confirmation e-mail. Thanks
  14. Was thinking of Jiffy pellets to start them, yay/nay?
  15. @SkunkPharm Planning for a minimum of two months. I’m not sure how long I’m going to Veg (this is my first grow) but I’d rather stick with the FF for this whole run if my soil hasn’t cooked long enough yet. Cabinet still needs to be built and my seeds were just ordered this morning while soil is already cooking for about a week, so I should be ok.
  16. Thanks for all the input guys, my 600w HPS is on the way. I’ve decided to build the cabinet slightly larger (1m x 1.4m x 1.7m). With 6” active exhaust (venting into roof space) and passive intake, I’ll make the intake in such a way that I can add a fan if it’s needed. Ideally I would like to split the cabinet in two (veg and flower) at a later stage when my budget allows for a second light. Obviously this does not need to be another 600w HPS, I might just go for a few CFL’s for the Veg-chamber. This is going to be a cheap Frankenstein build (apart from the light - still cheap, just not Frankenstein) with stuff I have around the farm. I’ve started my super soil (the GLO way) but I would like to start growing before it’ll be done cooking. Can I start in FF Premium and then switch to the living soil when I transplant (probably right before flipping)? What amendments (if any) should I add to the FF premium to last me through Veg?
  17. @Green Leaf Organics Every now and then I have genius ideas that I can’t believe nobody else has thought of... then reality comes along and bursts my bubble
  18. Just thought about this but dry ice is in essence frozen CO2 so having the air intake pull through a cooler with dry ice will simultaneously cool the cabinet and increase the available CO2. Not sure how long the ice will last or how cost effective it would be though.
  19. @SkunkPharm Just to confirm: Exhaust twice the size of intake? Would you have them running 24/7 or wired to an electric thermostat switch? I can build a larger cabinet if needs be, I don’t want to get a smaller light as the 600w should be perfect for my vegetable seedling station. I have enough random stuff around here to build intake/exhaust fans, ducting etc. Might even have the intake pull air through a cooler with dry ice if it’s necessary.
  20. @Green Leaf Organics I’m going to keep bugging you as I work through this. You mentioned a blog in your write-up, would you mind providing a link?
  21. This might be pure naivety but I’m not too worried about the heat for now, this will be exclusively a winter setup, once the seasons turn I’ll be growing outside (I stay on a farm) and I’ll use the light for vegetable seedlings. But as I said, I might be completely underestimating the heat.
  22. I’ve also read somewhere that HPS works better with an open bulb. UV-b or something like that is blocked by glass. Any specific reason why the dual spec bulbs are a no-go?
  23. Morning all, I was referred to this forum by a friend because I was looking for a good organic living soil mix for vegetables. I found the mix as well as a fascination with cannabis plants So now I want to grow some. I’m on a fairly tight budget, I don’t smoke weed so can’t offset the expenses against my smoke budget. I just like growing stuff. Could anybody give me some feedback on the Lumii Black Magnetic 600w kit available at www.hydroponic.co.za? https://hydroponic.co.za/hydroponics/lumii-black-600w-magnetic-kit/ I plan on growing in soil in a cabinet type setup (still to be built but roughly 70cm x 120cm x 200cm). Just a few questions: 1. Will this light be sufficient for the space? 2. I’ve read that HPS gets quite hot, how elaborate should my ventilation system be? 3. They describe the lamp as dual spectrum, does that mean I can use the same lamp for both Veg and Flowering? 4. Anything else you think I should know. Thanks! Z
  24. Morning all, Sorry for the necro. When you say Talborne in your soil mix which one are you referring to? I assume (presume?) it’s the Vita Veg 6:3:4 but would just like to make sure. Might I just add, you guys (organic cannabis growers) are way ahead of the organic vegetable growers in SA. I’ve been searching literally for weeks for a South African specific mix that I can use for seedling propagation until a friend referred me to this forum. Thanks for the write-up! Z
