Totemic

As it is I have way too little time to get everything done that needs to get done. I built this cab in my spare time taking an hour here and an hour there, over a period of 3 months.

I like posting my cabs up to inspire others, as I know how difficult it can be to figure out how to build something.

Haha, the neatness is thanks only to my severe OCD. If I'm going to waste energy doing something, I might as well do it as best possible. 

Loose wiring is one of the things I hate, and that's why the whole circuit is basically is behind both ventilation boxes.

Been busy with a DIY project that would suit my needs for a small scrog cabinet.

Got 2 X 10cm 220v fans venting the cab, with passive inlet. the 250w ballast running the light is housed inside the extraction box, and is thus actively cooled by the vent fans. 

Besides a few light leaks that i need to resolve, this cab is good to go and will be running a scrog in the next few days.

I just love a DIY project. 

I too have considered a home made tent, and even tried sourcing the D600 material the commercial tents are made of, and in the end buying a commercially made tent always works out the cheapest in the end.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not discouraging you, and would love to see a good DIY on the subject. As far as the plastic is concerned, I'm sure I've seen the black/white plastic at hortishop. I would assume you would need to get hold of stick on zippers for doors etc as well.

Green smoke room don't have genetics as you put it. They are buying seeds from overseas, opening the pack and shipping you a seed at a time, if they are honest enough. Truth is, you just don't know what you are going to get. 

You know, I am yet to see a complete grow start to finish with a GSR seed. IMO there are better options out there that do ship to Cape Town with a high delivery rate.

Well, I see Max has answered above. 

Auto Flowering plants do not react at all to any photo period. They will flower when they are mature enough to do so, and the genetics drives this, not photo period.

Unfortunately you are a bit off the mark with regard to the design.

For your and everyone's benefit, I'll elaborate just a little on the design.

As mentioned initially, the design needs to be a Tribal Mask. The mask in mind is an african/tiki mask. It can be realistic, abstract, surreal. It should in the design include a clear connection to Cannabis. This cannabis connection should flow with the design, as in almost merge into the design. The word "Totemic" can be included, but should also be part of the design, and flowing with it, if used.

Going and sampling soil from the mountains and forests are a very good way to ensure that you have a soil that is teaming with local strains of fungi and bacteria, and will help a lot with immune stability of your plants.  Always look for patches where the humus is a few centimeters thick, and sample from there.

Competition time. 

This one is for all you Graphic Designers and artists out there. Totemic needs a face, and so we decided to hand our logo design over to likeminded peeps within the Cannabis community.

A little Background. What is Totemic?

Totemic Genetics is a new kid on the block on a mission to offer the market our cut of the cannabis gene pool without breaking the bank, and we hope to have our seeds available at various online seed companies in the near future.

The Word Totemic is derived from the word Totem, and is defined as follows:

a. An animal, plant, or natural object serving among certain tribal or traditional peoples as the emblem of a clan or family and sometimes revered as its founder, ancestor, or guardian.

b. A representation of such an object.

c. A social group having a common affiliation to such an object.

With this in mind, the project spec looks like this:

The logo should be unique (As in original, not a pic off Google please!). It must be a tribal mask with a clear connection to our beloved herb used in the design.

It should not be overly busy, or too colourful. Less is more.

The final artwork needs to be supplied in high resolution(300DPI), in transparent PNG, JPG (with appropriate background colour).

Closing date for entries is 31 October 2014. The chosen logo will be announced by the 5th of November 2014.

And what’s up for grabs?

It was planned to offer some lekker glassware as a prize, but then a bong is a personal thing. We also then considered that this competition actually involves some work, so we decided that the chosen logo will get R1000 cash as the prize.

There is just something about organics that make buds so tasty. There is no better organic growing than in a "Living Soil" teaming with beneficial Bacteria, Mycorrhizal Fungi, and everything else your Cannabis needs to grow the dankest of bud. And best of all, you don't need any other nutrients at all for the entire life cycle of the plant.

When I decided to go a full on organic route, I spent hours and hours searching the net for formulations, that are firstly effective, and secondly, has ingredients that are easily obtainable in South Africa from a sustainable source, and affordable. I have had to make many substitutions, since guano’s are not so readily available, and they are super expensive when you do manage to get hold of it.

So I thought I would share my soil mix that I grow all my babies in.

Super Soil Ingredients

60l Potting Soil (I use DoubleGrow)

40l Mushroom Compost ( Also DoubleGrow)

25l Worm Castings (Hortishop)

500g Bone Meal

500g Talborne  (I do not use the Fruit and flower, but the VitaVeg 6-3-4)

1kg SeaMunGus (Chicken Manure and Kelp pellets and plants love it!)

1kg Lucerne Pellets (Rabbit food)

500g Agricultural Lime

500g Volcanic Rock Dust (Turbogrow)

1 sachet of rock phosphate

500g Mycoroot

1 Compost activator sachet (Effecto Brand)

500g Brown Sugar (You can add Molasses, but I find that it takes the micro-organisms longer to eat up the sugar)

Once all these are thoroughly mixed, this soil needs to mature and stabilize over a period of 2-3 months minimum; however the soil becomes sweeter the longer you leave it. I store my soil in large black bins, and chuck the whole lot out and mix through once a month for the first 2 months.

This soil needs to be kept only just moist, but not wet.

Pro Mix Ingredients

60l Coco Peat

30l Worm castings

30l Mushroom compost

20l Perlite

40L Super Soil (This first needs to stabilize before using)

500g Bone Meal

500g Talborne VitaVeg 6-3-4

500g volcanic Rock Dust

500g Mycoroot

500g Agricultural Lime

Regardless of the size of the container I grow in, I fill the bottom half with Super Soil, and the remainder with Pro Mix.

From seed to harvest I have never had deficient plants, and I only use de-chlorinated tap water (Just let it stand for 24 hours or more to let all the Chlorine evaporate.  Unless your tap water pH is really off, you don’t even need to pH correct your water. The lime in the mix is a brilliant buffer to acidity.

It does cost a bit to mix this soil up, but the results speak for themselves!

I'm retired from a 15 year career in the IT industry. Right now I enjoy a lot of maintenance work  for a huge property developer. Other wise my second job is full time father to 2 very very busy boys.

It's a global wheel that is gaining momentum all around us. It will be legal, and it will be in our life times. What the good Dr. Ambrosini put in motion here, was one of the sparks that started the fire in South Africa.
