I must admit, I am kinda put off with the old school strains which have become popular due to the fact that even if you do not smoke weed you probably know some of the names and heard them somewhere ... due to the popularity of these names, soo may breeders have "these strains".

However I feel a lot of them do not have the original cuts in their mix, its not the proper strains which they are selling. You see what they look like once grown out and I think to myself "No thanks, I will pass on that... Doesn't look too great".

I feel a lot of these cheaper EU breeders have kinda put me off some of these old school strains by doing this.

@Golden-Goose taking a look at your site, it certainly seems as if these old school genetics are certainly a step above what a lot of the EU breeders claim to be the same strain.

At the same time, lots of the US breeders are literally chucking pollen. Ethos and In House Genetics are two popular ones which come to mind. I see IHG have just released a "Pancakes" mix of strains. Various strains which are mixed with their Pancakes strain which is London Pound Cake 75 X Kush Mints 11

There are like 14 "new" strains as they've just crossed some older strains with Pancakes.

Yeah, that shit definitely happens. Usual suspects are OG Kush, Sour Diesel, Headband, White Widow, and Chemdog not Dawg.

It can take years to figure out who is legit and who is not.

Talking about the new new... the cannabis landscape has changed since "legalisation" in some parts of the world. Most notably, the states. Now it's all about the marketing. You get your hands on something decent, and market/hype the hell out of it. It is simple branding 101 and is certainly not endemic to the Canna industry. Quite the opposite. Canna industry is only just catching on, because in the past you couldn't market anything or you would get banged up.

So the strains that got noticed and hyped back in the day, had to do so on merit alone. For the most part...

If you ever smoke legit chemdog, it will blow your fucken mind. So much flavour, and plenty of horsepower. Problem is, unless you find a reputable breeder with solid chem lines that have been worked properly, and then pheno hunt for a good representation of it... you will probably never smoke a legit chem, because that shit was closely held in the states with many fakes doing the rounds instead.

@Golden-Goose, your lineup sounds classic. Hear you about breeding lines today, but personally I only think its improving, however with the sad loss of landrace. ICMAG is without a doubt the best place for proper unique strains, lots of depth and some top people. I just logged back in after a couple years of dormancy. Good to see some old faces there, Doobie Duck is one man I would love to get genetics from, but he does not part easily.

But received some of the real oldschools from that board many years ago. One of my best was getting a test variety of OG Kush from Franco ( GHS )  directly.  Never realised I had so many sought after strains direct from breeders themselves. Love the cannabis community. Two of my favorite breeders, Bodhi and Snowhigh are working on some great old school genetics, you will see them showing up in podcasts soon with Canna Cribs. Here is the latest podcast from Canna Cribs and whats happening, interesting if you keen on oldschool.

Anyone know if Mota Rebel is still around, I have a feeling he passed several years ago. His seeds were out of this world, off the top of my head, Lebanese Bekka, Pakistani Chitral........

Well that is the thing, I see all these new names coming, sounds more like a childs candy store. Variety is bliss and love the old landraces. Still smoking on my lesotho landrace from last season. I remember a hipster dropping a joint in the bin saying he does not smoke majat. I smiled and he stabbed himself ( true story ), had to race him to hospital. He does not carry knives anymore and is fairly interested in landraces now. Amazing how the wheel turns. i wish I had filmed two renowned activists talking about DP, damn my heart sank. They all into the new candy strains, but recently started getting involved in landrace.

Thanks for the link bro, I will check it out.

Yeah, ICMAG was great. It's quieted down there recently due to Instagram, but I still log on there every few weeks. There is alot of knowledge on that forum, and if you put in the work and stick around, you can make some epic connections.

Mota Rebel is still doing his thing. One of the breeders I've always wanted to try, but just never got around to. Didn't he breed Herijuana?

That story about the guy stabbing himself is crazy. Was it an accident, or did he just go off the deep end?

  3. There are a few reputable breeders using legit chem genetics, but at the forefront for me is Skunk VA (Lucky Dog). It doesn't get more legit than him. He is the reason chem is called Chem 91 Skunk Va. He has held on to that cut of chem for 30 years now. He even gifted chem back to the user chemdog. The guy who found those 13 magic beans.

I love all the history and mystique behind the chemdog cut.

  4. 30 years! God damn bro... you've been around the block! 😁

There is definitely fire to be found in the new stuff doing the rounds these days. When I started growing, proper OG and Chems were the holy grail and very hard to come by. Especially here in South Africa. The contacts I built up over the years through forums like ICMAG heavily influenced my tastes. The newer stuff looks great, and packs a punch, but I find the flavours to be a little one dimensional. Maybe I'm just biased. Either way, I want Golden Goose to reflect what I find interesting and would grow in my own garden.

BTW, if you're looking for some proper chem stuff.... check out Skunk VA's Lucky Dog Seed Co. I have a nice pheno of their Double Krush. Damn, that shit is pure Chem goodness. Tiger balm/Lemon&Lime with a massive right hook straight to the dome.

  5. I've smoked some proper Super Skunk back in the day that was very good. I know lots of guys still reminisce about the old Super Skunk.

MSS - Massachusetts Super Skunk was a power strain that was used in the creation of Sour Diesel.

Just remember, there is Super Skunk and then there is Super Skunk. The same can be said of many strains. White Widow, OG Kush, Chemdog/dawg. Breeders make claims. Those claims aren't always accurate. Sometimes they lose parent stock. Sometimes they simply lie about the origins of a cross. Especially if that cross contains an elite clone only like Chem 91.

I've grown a few Nirvana strains, and have had fire from them. I've never grown or smoked Wonder Woman though. Their White Rhino was mind blowing. This was a good couple of years back now, so I have no idea what their gear is like now.

Shot for your post bud. Keep them coming...

  6. We are adding some more fire to our catalogue.

Here are the new strains making their way here:

    White Afghan Skunk

Original Super Skunk x original White Widow - The stuff of legends! These are old school cuts that were used to make this cross. None of this new age watered down crap. If you've been in the game for a while, you will know what I'm talking about.

    https://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/White_Afghan_Skunk/Old_School_Genetics/

GlueBerriez (2nd Place - Best Indica Spannabis 2018)

Proper GG#4 clone from Joesy (RIP) x Mother of Berries - This strain puts out! A nice large yielding variety of sour, chocolatey, berry goodness. If you love Glue and Blueberry, like I do, then this one is for you.

    https://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Glueberriez/Old_School_Genetics/

    98 Super Silver Haze S1

This is the cup winning clone that has been selfed. Another legend.

    Peach and Gas

Clone only Peach Slush x Road Dawg

    https://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Peach_and_Gas/Old_School_Genetics/

    White Bubblegum

Pre-2000 Bubblegum clone x original White Widow - Bubblegum from yesteryear is one of the all time greats.

OSG Cheese (WINNER - Best Hash ICMAG Cup Amsterdam 2015)

Exodus Cheese '87 x original White Widow - This one is for the cheese lovers! Old Widow was selected as a cross to improve the vigor of the old cheese cut as well as improve structure while maintaining that rancid cheese terp profile.

  7. This strain is currently the only cookies hybrid we stock. I'm not a huge fan of cookies strains, although they sure are pretty. This is one I would like to grow at some point though, and that was all the reason I needed to stock it. 😉

On a serious note though, this cross does include some older genetics (80's blueberry x NL#5) which should bump up yield and increase stability, while also adding a little something to the terp profile.

Let's do a quick run through the genetic makeup of this strain:

    1. Animal Cookies - Girl Scout Cookies x Fire OG
    2. Headstash by Karma - (Girl Scout Cookies x Cherry Pie x Karmarado OG) x Biker Kush
    3. NL#5
    4. 80's cut of Blueberry

Strains 1 and 2 are the mother, while 3 and 4 make up the father.

Have a look at the strain here : https://golden-goose.co.za/regular

If you're looking for a larger yielding cookie hybrid, this might be the answer for you.

    @Golden-Goose hey bro.

I love learning more about special genetics and who the OG breeders out there are. And from what I've read it seems like Oldman Green is next level. His preservation of some insane old genetics is super respectable and an art in my opinion.

From what I've read he also has some other mad shit in the vault like UK Exodus Cheese '87, Buddha's sister (Soma), Peach Slush 90's and Super Silver Haze '98... all those epic pre 2000 strains some of which were lost to time....

His colab with Karma opens up the crazy spectrum and allows him to work with strains like Road Dawg. It sounds like he is also has some working arrangement with US breeders which gives him access to some fire US genetics, match made is heaven.

Will definitely do an Old School Genetics run in the future.

    Cheers

Bro, you took the words right out of my mouth. This is why I feel blessed to have a solid working relationship with the guy. On top of what you listed, he is also just a really great, stand up guy and has helped me tremendously to get The Goose to take off.

By the way, the strains you listed above are the ones I've earmarked to add to our catalogue. Seems we have similar tastes.

I love old school, but I also love some of the new stuff coming out as well. That is why Old School Genetics is such a perfect fit.
