  1. I am seeing some soil gnats every now and then, could the plant issues be a result of an infestation of them? Really not seeing a lot though, also have a sticky trap setup near the plant.

  2. Hi, this is my latest grow of Fastbuds Blue Dream'matic. Growing in coco with the watering being handled by a Blumat. Using FloraCoco nutes.

Noticing what looks like calcium/magnesium deficiency on the leaves with some yellowing and brown spots. I am pretty sure the FloraCoco nutes has enough of everything the plant needs so I am worried that it's actually the pH rather. I bought a 3 way soil meter from Hydroponic Shop and it shows my soil pH at just over 7 but the pH of the water in my reservoir with nutes is around 5.8. Any suggestions on what should be done?

Also any ideas on getting more light to the lower buds?

The plant is about 9 weeks in now.

  3. I've had good growth with seedlings at 20cm @ 25% strength, once the true leaves are out 25cm @ 50% then kept it at that height until flower, raised to 40cm @ 75%. Light bleaching started at 10cm.

Anyone else noticed an increased need for CalMag under LEDs?

Is this with the same light as mine?

Not specific, just a range. My other light came with a distance to PAR value chart. I actually did not think about that when I bought this one

  5. You got no hanging instructions from light it up? Contact them and ask... they should add that to the package, very essential information and belongs to each light sold. If they dont tell you, let me know and i build quick a setup and measure it for you.
Dont buy lamps without the distances provided to hang them... is like buying a car without odometer.. turns the object into junk, if you cant use it how you should. Driving without knowing how fast you are... will get expensive over time.
Hanging distances for germination, vegetative and flower are part of a good light.. a light without those information is a bit useless....
Man, that's unfortunate. I cannot seem to find anything of the sort for the light. I am going to try my hand at calculating the PPFD.

  6. So I grow in coco and I use a few things which some feel should not be used with mineral nutes.

I do microbe inoculations, add trichoderma and mycorrhizal fungi and I have used explogrow too and so forth.
Typically I use explogrow for when I germinate seeds, add a drop or two when letting the seeds soak.

Trich and myco I get as a wettable powder, a 2 in 1, and use it when I put my cuttings into coco once they have rooted (or seeds if I am growing from seed).
I then use microbe inoculations with the first feed (you could add the explogrow here too I am sure).

Otherwise just add the explogrow to your normal feed at the suggested dose, but it can become very expensive as the doses are quite high and big plants require quite a bit of feed.

As for how much of a difference it makes, well, that is hard to say as I run multiple "additives" - such as the trich and myco and so forth. Also most use soil and I grow in coco.
However my plant growth does appear to be quicker when compared to some other members when seeds have been germinated at more or less the same time - but could be various factors which affect this.
Running a side by side comparison with cuttings will help narrow it down, but is time consuming. My view is that the inoculations are not frequent and more of a once off, with the exception of the microbes which I may do roughly once a month (when I remember).
My plants typically look very healthy I feel, does not cost me that much so might as well continue with it. I do not see it doing any damage, other than to ones wallet.
Awesome, as always thank you for the detailed feedback. Definitely leaning towards getting it now.

  7. Hi, I am starting to think about my next grow and have found myself reading up on Explogrow quite a bit.

    I have a few questions

    1. Can it be used with coco?

    2. Does adding it make much of a difference?

    3. How did you fit it in with your feeding schedule, I read up that you use it once a month a reduce your feeding?

  8. This is all so interesting to read as well as the different perspectives.
I have been watching a lot of videos and reading up in the recent week/weeks as I am coming near harvest.
I have also been in 2 minds with a bud wash, as I have run into a slight bit of PM on a few leaves. Doesn't look to be on the bud sites yet, however, I am still new at this, so could not be looking carefully enough
So with the PM in mind, with the googling, I came across washing your buds.
I was first blown away as I thought this must be a joke and thought, this would affect the potency, taste etc.
But as far as I have read, it doesn't seem to have any negative impact and read so many people saying for outdoor, you should definitely bud wash as anything could have blown into a bud or a sneaky worm created his home in there XD
I do believe, if you do run into any pest or PM issues, it should be treated prior to harvest time, but there could be a time when this stuff comes in at the worst time e.g. a week before harvest (then possibly doing a bud wash would be the solution here with the hydrogen peroxide)
Obviously, I have never tried this and cannot say yay or nay.
But thought I would add here as it was something I have been looking into due to the recent PM issue I have run into.
I think I went down a similar rabbit hole as you. The process was not too bad, was just a bit taxing after the cutting and trimming. So far the drying is looking good too, this is just a normal dry in a tent with good air circulation. Seems to be drying at roughly the same pace as the non washed batch.

  10. You harvested very early.... Still had a good few weeks to go IMO.
Probably 5 more weeks or so I'd say. Those pistils look very new and long - they typically end up looking shorter once the bud fattens up and then it still needs to mature after the bud has fattened up.

Did you check the trichomes to see their colouring?
Yip, I think the light was too intense it was constantly throwing out new pistils but the buds had good amber trichomes coverage already.

  11. Harvested yesterday and hung to dry. So much foxtailing, really think it was either heat or light intensity that stressed the plant. Lessons learned but happy I have a harvest.20210109_141154.jpg20210109_171200.jpg

  12. So here are some pics of my setup:
You can see some of my DIY Quantum Boards in the front, the box fans suspended from the top of the tent, carbon filter and extraction fan to the side.
Cable ties to secure everything to the poles inside the tent and lots of rope ratchets.
    IMG_20210109_083537.thumb.jpg.d7bbe1d49d29f1f5c496d57d3c37847a.jpg

Here is a Light It Up light at the back, another box fan. The oscillating fan to the left will probably come out sometime, or when it dies.

I also have my power supplies / LED drivers outside on the top of my tent (on top of a box) to help keep the heatinside the tent down and my multiplug and power is outside the tent. I also make use of the Power Meters so I can see how much watts I am dimming my Quantum Boards to. I did not take a pic of this as I need to use a ladder to get a proper pic and stuff was in the way.

You can see the twist ties and clips I use for LST on the plants. I want to try reduce the LST, however since these were already quite large plants when I got them I need to make use of LST to try get the plants to where I want them.
    IMG_20210109_083657_1.thumb.jpg.fd52f6c5c99dd1b1826d4bb7ee9cb101.jpg

Here you can see how small the plant is when I start with LST. Just bend it and leave it for a while and continue to adjust as it grows to ensure you end up with a plant trained the way you like it and want it.

Pic of some of the plants chilling inside the tent. I just did the LST before taking these pics so plants look a bit messy still though.

Setup looks awesome, thanks for sharing. Best of luck with the grow

  13. @Slartibarfast so I bud wash my plants. Generally the hydrogen peroxide is only require if you have pests and/or PM. Otherwise you can likely skip the Hydrogen peroxide.

I am quite rough with the dunking of buds in the buckets,  I then "spin" it in my hand to get excess water off and then hang it up to dry before putting it into a tent to dry.
Temperature is very important when drying, heat can degrade the terpenes - try keep it under 26C.
Humidity is also very important, you do not want it to be too high (higher risk of getting mold) - but at the same time not too low (can dry out the bud too quickly).
Do not have fans blowing directly onto the bud either as it will dry it out too quickly.

What I like to do and I understand not everyone has such a setup,  but have an extraction fan linked to a RH probe to ensure the humidity stays below 70% (65% if you want to be safer).
Then fans inside the tent moving air around but not blowing directly onto the bud which is being dried and I check on the drying buds every day to make sure all is going well.

I do prefer to bottle before the bud becomes too dry. I prefer my Boveda packs to lower the RH slightly as opposed to have the Boveda packs increase the RH and try add moisture back into the bud. The trick when doing this is to ensure the bud is not put into the jars too wet - if it is too wet take it out the jars and put it back into the drying tent.
Awesome thanks for the advice. Will make sure to keep the fans from blowing directly on the bud. Temp and humidity is looking good in the tent around 25°C and 55% RH.

  14. Thanks for the drying advice. I think I'm still going to give it a go, I like doing these little experiments. The harvest should be big enough for me to still have enough for myself and friends should the wash go bad. Reading up a bit more it sounds like I can exclude the Hydrogen Peroxide, so will just be lemon + bicarb then 2 plain water buckets.

  15. Hi, today is chop day and I am considering doing a bud wash for half my grow. I plan to use 4 buckets, 1st with a 0.3% Hydrogen Peroxide water mix, 2nd bucket with lemon juice and bicarb water mix, 3rd warm water and 4th cool water. Read up quite a bit on it and this seems to be alright. My biggest concern is the drying.

Currently my plan is to dry in my tent with all flaps open and leaving my tent fan running. I will open the window in the room and leave the room door open as well. Considering having a bigger standing fan oscillating at the tent as well for the first hour or until the bud isn't wet to the touch. The tent fan is quite small, I will probably leave it running till tomorrow.

Would this be fine or are there any suggestions on improvement anyone has? Really don't want to risk getting mould.
