Hey Candyman, sorry to see you are having problems with our seeds. We will definitely replace your beans or give you a refund. I'll DM you next.
This is the first we have heard of germination issues this season and we appreciate any feedback we get. We have run germination tests recently on Gardeners Delight and had 28/30 pop successfully and are now healthy plants growing at a rapid rate. I have forwarded your post to Stu (our genetics dude) and will update you as soon as I have his feedback as to what could have gone wrong. Our seeds are from the 2019/20 grow season, harvested in March this year.
For reference, the attached images below show our latest test grow. The seeds were planted 0.5-1cm below soil and germinated directly in the coir pots, without a pre-soak as the pots sitting in water keep them moist enough. First signs of them popping was after 4 days. We prefer this method as we don't have to worry about damage during transplant and the tap root gets a chance to properly take hold. We then put the coir pot and seedling directly in the soil. This method has worked a treat. I will be running tests next week using the method you used.
Sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment, hopefully we can make up for it.

Don't be in a rush to harvest, the brown pistils could be a sign of stress from the wind and heat. Those heads still have a lot of fattening to do!

Day 97 - 20 November 2019
Of note in this test grow, I have used zero nutrients. The soil has done all the work. Pretty impressive! Admittedly, they have had a short season, so it will be interesting to see veg for our new Freedom Farms soil test grow, using fish emulsion and a full season of growth.

Day 84 - 7 November 2019
It's been a while since I updated the grow diary, lots of exciting developments going on at Daggafontein... more to follow I'm going to post 2 separate posts for images I took during the month.
DG Buffalo Cheese has been hanging out in the shed for 14 hours a day with the other ladies to hurry along harvest time. This beautiful female has also been frisky with a virulent DG Buffalo Cheese male that looked super sativa, with heaps of cheesy terpenes. Off to the test bed with this ones seeds.
DG Candy iV - Oh man, ain't she looking sweet?
DG Diesoline's - Definitely 2 distinct variations here, we plan on seeding and sowing these, with intention of stabilising the new pheno over the next few seasons. Genetics are funny things. We haven't see the smaller dainty version in 3 generations of DG Diesoline.

Day 30 - 31 October 2019
I have repotted all in Freedom Farms Classic Growing Medium, except for the 2 DG Diesolines that are playing catchup.
In a few weeks time I will slowly start adding nutrients, unlike our previous test, which had no nutes and the plants seem very happy. I'm going to try Supa Natural fish emulsion, at R89/bottle its half the price of Seagro and it seems to be pretty much the same thing. Anyone else try these nutrients?
The roots look super healthy!

Day 73 - 27 October 2019
Quick update, another Candy iV turned out to be male. 2 of 3 of the males, 1 from each strain, have been harvested and the pollen collected. The one Buffalo Cheese male was particularly virulent, had the sativa pheno's we were looking for and has the same cheesy smell as this beautiful female below. Stu gets super excited every time he sees her!
All of the females went into flower sooner than hoped for, but that is probably to be expected if planting before the spring equinox.... we have now decided to shorten the flower cycle now by putting them away in a dark shed for 14 hours a day. I want some bud. We want seed from these delicious cheeses! Also we have a project planned with the Diesoline showing the OG Kush pheno's on a dinky sativa like scale. Still has the same Diesoline aroma, just looks so funky!
Female to male ratio - 3 seeds planted for each strain:
Buffalo Cheese - 1 female, 2 males
Candy - 1 females, 2 male
Diesoline - 2 females, 1 maleThe Buffalo Cheese female is just a beauty

HEY - I also have one of the strange Diesoline with the fine leaf structure and an interesting leaf colouration - yellow green. Hope it's a girl 'cos I'm a fan of the Sativa.
Sweet! Looks to us like some Original Gangser Kush pheno's are coming through in this batch.

Day 15 - 16 October 2019
I so dig these pots from www.growkit.co.za. I've now potted them directly inside a bigger pot. The roots grow through the coir pots and provides a bit more ridgety to the soil and root ball when repotting them in their final destination.
The 2 top right ones (pic below) are noticeably smaller as result of that feline fight and the seeds being exposed to the elements for a day or two.

Interesting, that Diesoline is showing similar pheno to one in our test grow. Glad the transplant worked out OK!

Day 14 - 15 October 2019
Transplant of the 2 casualties have worked out. They are a little behind the others in terms of growth, but 100% germination! I cant tell any difference between germinating in a nutrient less medium vs freedom farms classic grow medium. It seems as I thought, there is enough nutrients in the seed to kickstart life.

Day 8 - 9 October 2019
We had a mishap, cat fight in the middle of the night took out 2 Diesolines. I managed to replant them, here's hoping they survive. All but 1 of the 9 have germinated.

Day 60 - 14 October 2019
Grow is progressing well, we are 8 week in. We have isolated 4 males from what looks like 5 females.
Female to male ratio - 3 seeds planted for each strain:
Buffalo Cheese - 1 female, 2 males
Candy - 2 females, 1 male
Diesoline - 2 females, 1 maleMale jail below.
Our females - Front left and middle is Diesoline, Back 2 are Candy, and the front right is Buffalo Cheese
Interesting pheno for this Diesoline. Love the delicate leaf structure and colouration. A small plant, with tiny Sativa like leaves. Will be keeping an eye on this one as it's not how Diesoline was intended, but a very funky variation...
Here is how Diesoline should look.

Day 1 - 2 October 2019
We are running another grow test using Freedom Farms organic craft soil as the plants just seem to love it. The same 3 strains, DG Buffalo Cheese, DG Candy iV and DG Diesoline. The pots are from www.growkit.co.za and make it very easy to germinate and repot into bigger post when ready - well you don't actually repot, just put these into your bigger pot and the roots grow right through, the pot becomes grow medium. Love it!
The seeds were planted into the grow medium. It will be interesting to see if it helps or hinders growth vs using a perlite, vermiculite and coco coir mix, with zero nutrients for the first 3 weeks as our previous test was done.

Day 47
Right, time for an update. These little babies are doing so well. Stems are solid roots, have taken hold big time and the growth is impressive. And they just look so healthy. DG Buffalo Cheese is already letting me know that skunk is in town, that undeniably delicious aroma when you give them a rub. However, we have a bull amongst the herd. A very handsome looking one at that, which I will now isolate from the rest and see how he grows. Hopefully into a fine specimen! We love male plants too at DG
All 3 of these are DG Buffalo Cheese, tall one at the back is the bull.

DG Candy iV. Yum!
DG Diesoline. Some interesting genes coming through with variety in leaf structure.

Ooooh, so exciting to see our strains out in the wild!! We will definitely be following your diary.
Interesting with the mulch over the top, let's see if their hardiness prevails. C'mon little darlings, make us proud!

DAY 25
All growing beautifully after last weeks epic sunshine. I've still not added any nutrients. Just rainwater and recycling some of the runoff back into the plants.
I'm using scooby-doo wire to give the plants a little bit of support against the wind. I like this method, as the wire has plastic coating to help prevent bruising, with quite a bit of bendy give, and still allowing the plant some movement to strengthen it. Mind you Nr.1 on the far right, got flattened by a football and miraculously survived!
Love the symmetry in these early stages

DAY 1 - 15 August 2019
So we might as well be the first forum test grow of our genetics and we have chosen a medium becoming very popular in our local market. I like to do this every few weeks, test a batch for germination. This batch will be grown to full term using Freedom Farms organic craft soil. We usually mix our own, but I have heard a lot of good things about this mix and wanted to try it for myself. http://www.freedomfarms.co.za/
What we have here are our 3 strains, DG Buffalo Cheese, DG Candy iV and DG Diesoline and unnamed test strain #4 germinating in only a coco, perlite and vermiculite mix. No nutes and just good old rain water. The pots are from www.growkit.co.za and will be potted directly inside a smaller pot till the root ball takes shape. The seeds were planted directly in this mix, just less than 1cm deep. No pre-soak. The trays were filled with water, the grow medium and cups absorbed the water to provide enough moisture for the seeds. There is enough nutrients in a seed to sustain it for quite a bit, so I don't use any at this stage.
100% germination success rate. Sweetlings! Seeds germinated between 3-5 days, with DG Diesoline the last to show. Also the tallest after 12 days. Time to get them into the organic soil.
The plants look a little like they need some nutrients, but they should get that from the soil now for the next 2-6 weeks. As soon as the root balls look strong, we will move them to their final pots.
More to follow....
Happy growing

@Bakstein420 Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention
That makes us happy. We will do whatever we can to make this work.
I have just been chatting to Stu and we will be running dual tests next week using your method. Different outdoor growing environments, random 20 seeds from the mix, and will report back on the success rate. I suspect there are a host of reasons why your success rate was so low, and hopefully we can work out what went wrong. Besides my tests, Stu has had a 100% germination rate on his tests - sadly no pics.
The main reason why we do it the way we do, is too many variables and potential issues relating to the transplant. For germination we have had great success using just coco coir as the medium or Freedom Farms Classic soil. Our most recent tests (images in previous comment) use Just Cannabis mix and we are very happy with the results.
Germination in coco coir without any nutrients (not hot) actually works a treat. The seeds seem to have enough nutrients to keep it going for the first couple of weeks. After the first week we pot the seedling and coir pot into the richer mix, their final destination which in our case are mostly black 20 litre plastic bags. The roots shoot through the coir pots in no time.
We really do appreciate feedback, so thanks!
