The FF Soil will last up to 6 weeks no problem , you don't have to feed anything till then. Check on the bag , DE might be in the soil already can't remember. Maybe put the plugs in the pots when the germ , you don't want autos roots to stick out of the plugs . Then again I haven't done autos yet emoji847.png

Ya I'm thinking I'll put the plugs in the pots asap once they've sprouted. The seeds ended up much deeper in the plugs than planned, so there may not be a lot of room for the roots to form below them.

I would keep the peat pellets in a dome (if you have one) until they germinate, then I'd fill the pot with just FF soil and put the pellet into a hole with some Mycoroot at the bottom. Don't add any other nutrients and don't overwater. You're going to have to be extra careful because you're in your final pot and it's easy to misjudge the watering, especially when they're babies. Good luck and welcome to the club 🤘

I've got them on a dish currently, with a plastic bag over to retain some warmth and humidity. It looks like they have germinated which is great to see - well 3 of the 4 at least. I couldn't find the 4th one, but didn't want to dig around too much 😅 Just waiting for them to breach the soil now. Will see if I can get some Mycoroot before then but I think it's unlikely.

Thank you both for the advice and welcomes!

  2. Hi all, this is my first grow so please bear with me if I need an extraordinary amount of guidance 😅

    Here are the main details.

    • Strains: Dinamed Kush and UK Cheese (both autos)
    • Space: Outdoor on my apartment balcony (north facing)
    • Medium: FF Premium Classic Soil
    • Nutrients: Bio-Bizz Grow, Bio-Bizz Bloom, Seagro, Kelpak, Wurmbosch worm castings (I won't necessarily use all of these nutrients, but I have them at my disposal)
    • Pots: 2 x 9l plastic pots and 2 x 10l FF fabric pots. I'm planning to grow one seed from each strain in each type of pot (for science). I know these pots are on the smaller side, but I don't mind if my plants are a little small.
    • Extra stuff: A soil PH and moisture reader, which probably won't be necessary since I'm using living soil.

I'm realising now that I planted my seeds a couple weeks early, but oh well. I put them in peat plugs a 4 days ago and was concerned that I hadn't seen any signs of germination yet. This probably wasn't the best idea but I was impatient this morning and gently removed a little soil from the plugs with a chopstick this morning. I see signs of life in 3/4 seeds so far. They were surprisingly deep in there! Will post some photos in the next day or two once they're peeking out of the soil.

So my first question: Should I wait until they're a certain size before I get them outside an into their pots, or is sooner better?

And second question: When preparing the pots should I add anything to the FF Premium Classic Soil? I'm planning to add a sprinkling of red clover seeds as a companion, and am considering adding a small amount of diatomaceous earth to the mix, mainly because I have some and I don't think it could hurt. I also have worm castings available but I'm cautious of adding nutrients at the start because I know the soil already has what the plants need for the first few weeks.

Nah, they should be okay just give them a little more time. Did you soak them in water before putting them into the pellet?

    I didn't, oops 😅

Thanks! Definitely more conscious about keeping them warm since yesterday. At night I put them on top of my PC tower which I leave on, so hopefully that keeps them happy.

  4. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I'll definitely be posting some pics soon. Will probably start a grow diary as soon as these seeds sprout 😄

On that note - it's been almost 3 days since I put them in the peat pellets. I made a small blunder and didn't use warm water when preparing the pellets.. hopefully that doesn't significantly reduce the likelihood of germination.

You seem to be on your way to happy growing. Freedom Farm soils is a great way to grow.

Seems so! I had initially bought a different growing medium, but exchanged for FF after browsing through this forum 😄

Welcome to this wonderful community @itchilemon !!! You will surely get great advise here. You have the right gear to start your grow. Autos can be sensitive sometimes , you need to start them in there final pot , they don't like transplants much.
How much Sun does your balcony get during the day ? Il wait for October before I start , still very cold at night and that might hinder growth and you end up will a small plant at the end .

Thanks for the welcome GGG! And also, thanks for the advice. So I jumped the gun a bit and have seeds in the peat plugs already 😅 I only realised afterwards that it's probably best to wait another couple weeks. I'm in Cape Town so the nights hopefully won't be too cold, but to be safe I think I'll bring them inside at night for the first while.

Yup, I'm planning to plant in the final pot - most likely the 10l fabric pots from FF. At first I thought I'd go for bigger pots but ended up choosing 10l because I don't want the plants getting too big. That should be unlikely either way though since they're autos.

My balcony is north facing and probably gets a good 8 hours or so of direct light. It will be more in a few weeks.

  7. Hello all. After a week of lurking underground I've finally germinated as a new forum member.

I recently decided to grow a plant or two, not that I even smoke much anymore, but just thought it would be fun to grow now that it's legal. I told myself that I was going to keep things very simple and avoid overthinking things (straight up soil, water, seagro and sunlight vibes) but alas I've been doing a fair amount of research over the past few days, and now I'm excited to learn more and hopefully raise these plants to be as healthy and happy as possible.

I'll be growing outdoors on my balcony, and I've got 2 bunches of auto-flowering seeds - Humboldt UK Cheese and Dinamed Kush. The latter is a (almost) pure CBD strain which I decided to grow so I can use it as mix since my THC tolerance is super low these days.

Current assets and tools at my disposal:

    • freedom farms classic soil
    • 2 x 9l plastic pots
    • 2 x 10l freedom farms fabric pots
    • bio-bizz grow
    • bio-bizz bloom
    • seagro
    • kelpak
    • diatomaceous earth
    • red clover seeds (companion crop)
    • wurmbosch vermigro (don't think I need this but got 2 bags for free)
    • peat plugs
    • soil ph and moisture meter

Will likely have a lot of questions over the next while. Looking forward to being a part of this community!
