@Nimzowitsch  Sorry to have made comments on your thread  - we are noobs here and learn as we go.  Good luck with the new planting of seeds - now is the time to plant for out door results. I personally decided to add new genetics to my landrace pool, as I grow for medicinal puroposes.  So the males inherited from the buy I did were welcome.

    Thanks. No problem.

I'm definitely gonna plant some new seeds and see how that goes.

Keep the jar in a cool dark place away from heat and sunlight/UV. Cupboard is cool. You want around 20deg C temperature wise. Stable temp is key and burp the jar every day.

You will need to control humidity (RH),

either with humidity packs or an RH gauge.

If the bud is too wet - over 65%, you risk mould.( Will be a complete waste )

If it's too dry - lower than 50/55%, the curing process stops/slows down.

The chlorophil doesn't break down and you may end up with a harsh/throat burning smoke.

What I have noticed, as the curing continues the scent changes and starts smelling less and less as it cures. (Until you grind it...)

And the colour changes from shades of green to golden/tan/dry grass colour.

There is lots of literature on the net about drying and curing cannabis. Knowledge is power.

We have some Swazi Gold that is coming up on 12 months cure.

Awesome stuff.emoji16.png.......(of course we sampled it)

    Great, thanks for replying.

I found a place down the road from me that sells those boveda packs, I'm gonna get some on Monday.

  3. Thanks all

This whole process started one night when I was stoned and adventurous, saw seeds at the bottom of a bankie and decided to plant them. Didn't realize they would actually grow 🙂 .

Happy with the outcome so far as it's just the one plant that went balls up.

I'm assuming that I can take seeds from the plant that didn't flop and grow those, should be safe, right?

    Howzit,

Wanted to add something I learnt/saw/heard....

The best bud in the world can be rendered unsmokable with a bad cure.

Mediocre bud can be turned into the best bud with a perfect cure.

I started curing yesterday evening..put it in the back of a cupboard.

Opened up the jar a bit earlier, smells very strong and the buds are sticky - I'm guessing/hoping that's a good thing?

    Thanks

If it feels dry to the touch I would consider jarring and burping once every day. Keep the jars in a cool dry place out of sunlight.

Thanks. Is this where it starts to take "shape" as in the second pic.

Apologies for all the questions, complete newbie.

    Thanks

    Roger that. Thanks.

As this was my first time, I don't feel too bad about it and the other plant came out decently...

Can I use the seeds from this flopped plant? Any risks?

  7. Hi again all

So this is what one of the buds looks like now - After almost 3 days of drying..

    1919091260_Pic10.thumb.jpg.5aadcdf4d2103061edb7a65790695c32.jpg

It feels dry to the touch but I suspect that I should leave it for the recommended 5-7 days.

At which point does it start taking on the appearance of weed that you would buy from your local guy. I mean, more compact and tight. Is this maybe where the curing comes in? I'm a newbie so just guessing...

    Something like this...

Jip that is revegging. You have 2 choices harvest and save what you can or trans plant it into a bigger container and let is grow to harvest april may.

This was my first time growing and only this specific plant went balls up.

I'm not gonna wait unit next year to harvest, I'd rather start from scratch and maybe learn from this.

Speaking of which, how do I avoid this next time?

    Thanks

    Hey man.

This is my option of what happened to your plant. Your plant was in late flower but due to the light cycle peaking above 12 hours (late spring) it started to reveg, you can clearly see this with the abnormal growth, it's called fox tailing. I do not think your plant was pollinated by a male, but pollinated itself (hermie), this can be caused by stressing the plant to the extend that its defensive mechanism kicks in to reproduce automatically, usually it only produces a few seeds.

The only way you will be able to "save" the plant is by harvesting early or by putting it in a grow tent with 18/6 or 20/4 lighting.

If you are in the Western Cape, the new outdoor grow season has started, cut your losses and plant a few new seeds.

    Anyway, just my opinion...

    Thanks

I think I'm gonna cut it down this evening and save what I can.

Is any of this even smokeable?

  10. 26 minutes ago, PsyCLown said:

Well, the drying process will probably take 3 - 5 days, as I doubt they will be perfect.

Then it is best to throw the bud into a jar with a boveda pack to regulate the humidity and let it cure or a bit, most recommend at least 3 weeks but you could start smoking it after it has dried - but wait if you are able to.

Never heard of a Boveda pack before but a quick Google search revealed a place down the road from where I am that stocks it so... Thanks.

Cool - I'm in no rush for it so will let it take its time.

    This is them.....

Yes, the bud would dry too quickly as the biltong dryer has a fan which pulls air directly over the biltong if I am not mistaken?

If it dries too quickly, there is not enough time for the enzymes to breakdown what they need to (I think it is the sugars and chlorophyll) and this can lead to a harsh smoke.

    Thanks

Ok so best to let it take its own course then.

More or less how long am I looking at before it's ready for me?

  13. 12 hours ago, Ill_Evan said:

I rate the biltong machine is fine as long as it is not on and dark where the harvest is.

Have you trimmed the bud already? Is it hanging as branches or the whole bush?

    Thanks

The garage is dark and the machine isn't on, newbie question. What effect would it have if the machine was on? I imagine that it would dry out quicker?

Yes, I've trimmed the buds and they're hanging as branches.

  14. 3 hours ago, PsyCLown said:

When drying you want to try and prolong the drying, keep the temps down and try keep the humidity around 55 - 65%

If the RH is too high you have a higher chance of getting mold, if it's too low it may dry out too quickly. If the temps are too high, the terpenes can end up affected in a negative way and you can end up with bud which does not taste great.

You also want to dry in a dark place as light can negatively affect the bud.

Regarding THC from the drying bud, I do not think so. The highest risk is when you smoke it, if she is around - the 2nd hand smoke could possibly lead to positive test results.

    Thanks

Just a bit paranoid about possible absorption.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

    Yes hermie = hermaphrodite

If your plants stay outdoors there's always a chance of some kind of pollination just from males that grow in your neighbourhood

    Thanks

What's the worst case scenario when this happens?

  16. 1 hour ago, Ill_Evan said:

Looks like revegging, agreed. I first thought it might've hermied but reveg seems more logical.

You could either just chop the plant or if you want to try save it you can dedicate yourself to limiting it's light consumption but you may have do this for a while to get a reasonable outcome. Just decide how bad you want to save it.

If I chop it, is there any bother is drying it out still?

    Hermied = Became hermaphrodite?

A friend was at my place last week and he said that he can see that my crop has become pollinated (He's a little more clued up than I am). I'm not expert but I'm pretty sure that I removed all the males when I started this process.

    Can this be related?

    Thanks

  18. Hello All

I've started drying out my first ever harvest.

I've hung it in a biltong machine (one of those cheapies from Game), the machine itself isn't on and the top lid is off - It's in my garage. Is this ok or am I setting myself up for problems?

Also, my wife has periodic drug tests at work which includes THC tests, can she possibly absorb anything that would cause a positive test while it's drying when she's in the garage?

    Thanks

I suspect the plant may be revegging due to the increase in hours of light. The other plant may follow suit as well.

Unless you step in and force the plants to flower, they will only go into flower next year, I think around Feb / March.

    Thanks

I started harvesting the other one and it's drying now.

How do I force this one to flower now?

    Thanks

    Afternoon Nimzo,

    Are the plants outdoors?
Is the gangly growth at the top new?

The strange growth with the weird leaves suggest that the plant seems to be revegging.

I'm no expert and I'm sure some of the other more experienced members will post their reply's/opinions soon enough.

    Cheers

Could this be a flop or should I just wait it out?

  21. Hello All

I started my first grow a while back.

These were the 2 that I was most proud of in my entire grow.

Looking at this first pic, both plants looked like this which besides the leave discoloration, seems ok to me - Heads look good etc.

     520356210_Pic1.thumb.jpg.fca069937efdd8719a12ffb647ae0fc4.jpg

Then yesterday, I noticed that the second plant took a dramatic turn an no longer looks like the above. It looks like this now.

    646397026_Pic3.thumb.jpg.6533c2b0dd51eaed8b50b0de32cae5e4.jpg

    2107733230_Pic2.thumb.jpg.9588bade81e8ab902f770605ee2285af.jpg

Something looks very wrong to me, it's as if the heads disappeared. Highly confused.

On close inspection, lots and lots of these little "pods" are all over.

It's confusing because these plants looked the same (first pic) a day ago and almost overnight the one completely changed.

    Any idea what happened here?

    Thanks
