Is this a normal height for an auto after 17 days

Question

Yo, I would like to know is it normal for autos to be this slow? (I'm on day 17) I did run into issues in the beginning of my grow, I was struggling with humidity and about half way through between day 7 and 14 I bought a humidifier becasue I couldn't keep the humidity up. Is my plant stunted or is it still good?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

17 days from the time you soaked your seed, or 17 days since you planted it?

Either way, that plant is way tiny... Comparison would be a seed about a week from germination.

What meduim do you have it in? Looks barky.... Also a smidge wet, but I have seen better plants with worse watering so I don't think it's that.

Likely root damage and it's trying to recover.

Do you have any other plants on the grow? I would plant more

That is pretty small and slow in terms of growth.

Being an auto, I would cut my losses and start over to be honest - the yield you would get from that would be teeny tiny. You may not even get enough for a single bowl at this point.

Is the plant in a tent or open area? Humidity can be kept high by placing a plastic bottle over the plant when its small if the humidity is very low.

Definitely not normal, what your seeds look like? Only time I've had midgets like this was from immature seed not getting light.

I'd second what they guys are saying scrap it and start over - I actually spotted my runts in the backyard and still the same size 5 months later - looks exactly like yours

Also maybe other forum members can comment but I personally never use bark in my medium unless I use a piece to prop a seedling up but otherwise i steer clear - bark is quite acidic and just like having stones n rocks in your medium your roots will have to work to get around it and will definitely stunt a plant if the roots aren't strong enough to displace whatever is in its way

@PsyCLown my guess is it won't grow at all, if he leaves it alone my moneys on it will stay like that - maybe stem will stretch a bit but that's it

Where you get the seeds from?

Based on what I can tell, you have two options depending on how much effort you want to put in

1) if you just wanna have a successful grow and not be bothered with understanding nutrients etc etc might be better off starting with a premix organic soil - something like this - soil naturally releases nutrients/makes them available as they required and more importantly soil has a buffer thats going to protect you from mistakes with feeding/pH - makes life much easier, less things to worry about

https://www.jamiesgardenshop.co.za/shop/orgasoilux-potting-soil-premium-living-earth-blend-30l/

2.)If you keen to learn and understand the ins & outs + how's, when & why if I'm allowed to post links to some awesome learning material or even post them here iI will do so but will wait on word from moderator before doing so but these will help put a lot of things into perspective for you and eliminate a lot of questions but be prepared each PDF is incredibly extensive (300pg+)

@Ill_Evan @CreX i wanted to provide links to PDF's or the pdf's themselves (Cervantes/Greg Green/Ryan Riley) is this OK? Filesharing allowed?

Problems to try identify:

1. pH of the water or water+nutes is within 5.8 - 6.8 (ideal around 6.4 for soil), and run off is similar.

2. Three days after watering the bottom of the pots is dry. If this is the case then your mix is not holding too much water.

3. You are providing all the nutrients required. You have a good compost or earth worm castings for organic or you are using bottled salt nutrients that cover all the nutrient requirements.

4. Temperature is within 18C - 30C.

5. VPD is within limits, if you don't know what VPD is then google please.

6. You have no known pests in the area. Broad mites and other microscopic pests are sometimes a problem on stalled plants. Each type of infestation leaves tell tale signs.

17 days after sprouting you should have a plant around 15 - 20cm high unless there are problems.

Also confused me at first , just get already buffered coco or buy a calmag sachet from hydroponics.co.Za and use that to buffer the coco , and if your tap water is soft ie a low ppm/ ec add a tiny bit of Epsom salts and calcium nitrate in a ratio of 4:3 and you’re in the clear

@wanna be dagga kop it really is not difficult to buffer coco.

Perhaps I will put together a tutorial sometime with pictures - however when using coco you do need a decent PH pen.
Will see if I can get a tutorial put up early November when I have a bit of time and am buffering some more coco.

I bought one of those 5kg Coco bricks and had to buffer that and it was a royal pain in the arse

It is a bit of a mission, but not difficult.

Perhaps a tutorial for some beginners or people looking to get into trying coco will be a good idea though.

@Scoobydoob tbh I got this as well and bought the calmag to buffer but I have no clue how to do it I read about how to use  coco and it just confuses the fuck out of me or I'm just a bit slow

The basic idea is to let your coco soak in the calmag solution for a few hours and then you give it a rinse or two and it’s ready

Morning growmies.. So I am setting up my first ever Indoor Grow. As a outdoor grower this is a daunting task and as exited as I am... I am quite nervous...
@zairek Bud it seems assif you had n mother of an infestation.... I do not think I ever had such an infestation in my outdoor grows ever... Bloody hell..
The tent and all accessories was nuked and afterwards drenched in a strong peroxide solution.. Hope there is no eggs hiding somewhere...
The only thing I am not to sure about is the light settup. I have the following and is not sure how to proceed.. Please give me some guidance in how to connect the following.
Thnx in advance buds... Keen to get going as the plants are days away from showing sex and would like to put the CBD Charlotte's Angel inside to prevent them from getting spoilt by the ultimate light source..
There's a power cable from the light to the dimmable 600w electronic ballast..

There is a few extra ballasts. I'm not to sure why and how to connect these.. As I said... Indoor is a new world to me and I am not going to try this myself as I know my stoner ass is going to screw something up... I feel that it might be a simple thing but would rather have the experts guide me through this..
These are the extras I received and what is causing the confusion..

I started this adventure trying to find the cheapest and simplest way to grow some good bud.
Unfortunatly from my personal experience. There isint really a cheap way.

Sorry. But this is going to be abit of a long 1.
Just out here tryna start a basic, budget, Covid-19, winter grow while confined to the spaces of my home.
So i tried growing once before. Failed. Had alot going on. Didnt try again until now. When we are on lock.
Anyway. Since i have not figured this shit out yet. I am going to be messing around with bag seeds until i get somewhat of a useable plant.
I am basically just trying to grow as a hobby. As something exciting to do while chilling at home.
Not expecting amazing yields. Or the best looking plant or anything like that.
I just want that rewarding feeling of growing my own plant from start to finish.
So anyway. It is winter. So abit of a challenge.
I did manage to germinate in a shot glass and then paper towel. Roughly 36-40 hours.
Tap roots were about 12mm long.

Got my hands on some coco(R40)(cheap stuff-brick form). Rinsed it out.
Got me a small bag of perlite(R20).(tons of videos and mixes i have seen have perlite. Never used it before.)
Added abit of bone meal(about R40)and root starter pebbles(lying around) to the coco and perlite. Just for a sprinkle of nutrients. Until i manage to get my hands on some easily accessible (walk-in-store) "cal-mag" / "cannabis growing soil"
So after mixing them all together. I potted in some 1 liter lunch tins that looked cool and were R10 at a discount store close to home.(i did drill a bunch of holes for drainage.)
So i wanted to start with this coco mix( as alot of people say coco is the easiest for new growers to get started). And either transplant and keep the same mix. And add the cal-mag supplement needed for coco.
      Or
Get a right kinda soil. And when ready to transplant. Use the soil.
      You guys can advise.

So now since its cold as B#$%S  these days. I decided to get some cheap LEDs
20w each. 1670 lumens each. 6000k each. (from the same discount store - R100  for 3 lights. With fittings)
Lux meter reading below with the plants about 50mm away from soil
For the seedling stage and to just extend the daylight hours at the moment. I thought it would be a good idea to have those.
So the plan is . Keep the plants in the sun between 9am, bright and warm until 5pm, still considerably bright and warm.
And the rest of the time it could be under the 3 lights.
I am still gona figure out how much of darkness to give them.
You guys could advise on that aswell please.
I am starting with 5 bag seeds.
I am expecting to end with atleast 1 plant or 2 at most.

So potted the germinated seeds on Tuesday evening.

Really impatient. Hope i get something to grow. Bored as hell in these troubling times of ours.
Sorry about the long message. Lockdown is getting to me.
Please give me as much direction and opinion as you like. I am open to suggestions. Ask questions and for pics if needed.
