What strains do you want available in SA?

I just finished ordering some new studs and girls for my next breeding projects, some new lines and some to pimp up existing crosses i have had the pleasure of working with.

It is not always easy deciding which way to go selecting genetics, seed banks, new strains, old proven classics, etc.

This got me thinking, what strains would you guys and gals like to see available here on the forum as tester seeds (or breeding stock)?

i'd like to see some 1:1 strains

@Kgrows Do you have any specific strains in mind, the one I have seen around and researched a bit, is CannaTonic, I have never grown or blazed it.

It is a cross between MK-Ultra and G13-Haze. :-flyinghi

@Trailblazer420 That is a strain I have not seen in a while, used to be a killer cut in London grown by some SA dudes, very nice bud indeed!

Barneys farm and 710Genetics stock the feminized version only with BCBud depot stocking some regulars.

Tthis year I will be gooing some breeder boxes similiar to the tamato breeding system, just need to employ the correct size mesh to keep pollen inside and unwanted pollen outside. Can do a few strains for testers like this, now just need to go and hit the casino. :-puffin

I think there will be a lot more testing done on our local strains in the future and surely some good CBD strains will be found in certain locations. The original DurbanPoison has only trace amounts of CBD, but not sure about the rest.

Swazi Gold the original is also quite hard to find since all the skunk influence in Swazi, those beans will always be worth gold. :-rolled

Finding pure land race strains would most likely entail travelling to the country of origin and personally collecting the seeds to ensure tracibility.
Are there sativa strains with notible CBD content? I'd be interested.

@Bospatrollie2 here is a list, I am slowly going to work through it, lol, if you trace the strains you should get some good ideas of which landraces u could use.

A lot of the CBD strains do have a bit of secrecy about the origins, big bucks now the weed biz.

I would think the oldschool "majdad" from lesotho or old TK - Tarri, could have more CBD, but truly its just a guess, until we grow some out and test it. :-rolled

That is a decent list dude... thanks.
Yeah...you gonna have to grow it and test it yourself- because of proprietary info most of the breeders won't share that info easily.
It's a lot of commitment, physical and economical if you're doing it by yourself.

I'm running mostly sativa strains due to the heat and high RH in summer. Dont know if Indica dominant strains will handle our summers - 30deg nights, 42deg days 80 to 90%RH.
The idea is a perpetual outdoor grow Sativa during summer, Indica for winter.
Matching my strains to the weather.

I forgot to mention that Rudaralis is usually high in CBD lower in THC.

Its easy enough to buy some breeding stock to get started with a CBD line, breeding from a landrace is a massive commitment (and loads of $$ testing), hopefully one day. :-puffin

Strains suggested on this thread will get put on a poll at some point and I will order the most voted strains to cross with our Guff's Meds mother plants.

@greenkush , I have the consent of the person in the photo (in fact I was asked to use that particular picture), the garden also happens to belong to a few registered HIV patients.

Cool, not entirely sure what being HIV registered has to do with anything but cool.

It means that none of the plants you see there will ever get sold, hence nothing illegal there.

It means that their doctors know (it is written in their medical files) that they are growing and using Cannabis, their CD4 count is measured and recorded every month, it is a great help to identify exactly which strains are helping the patients.

Cannabis is great medicine for HIV/AIDS, I guess most people are not aware of that.

BTW your plants are coloring up nicely there, any closeup shots of the buds? At first I thought it was a spidermite infestation.

Are you able to share some peer reviewed journals regarding cannabis and HIV/AIDS ? I'm curious because I know a few researchers in SA who have done studies in this field.

I've never suffered from spidermites in the last 15 years of growing, just glorious thrips, nope and no up close shots.

Eish thrips are the worst! Have you ever tried something like this https://www.kombuchakamp.com/fruit-fly-trap-video-quick-tip   , I am dusting with Diatomaceous earth as a part of my IPM.

At some point my friends will go public, but I think it will be in a even more legal atmosphere than we have at the moment. The doctor\s have been keeping records for about 4 to 5 years now.

This is all done with a State Doctor up to this point, and the strain research by me and my friends (nothing scientific, growing, breeding, smoking, u know), but personally I think its still early days, we need more breeders and growers growing out strains, more pheno's and more testing! :-rolled

This doctor is quite cool and I can possibly suggest a peer reviewed journal (I know they have a DVD full of data), I was recently told by somebody involved with CannaBizness that our research (which was not exactly legal the past 4 years) is worth quite a bit. Luckily all this info is with a State doctor and he does not care about the monetary aspect, only to help his patients, which is nice.

Now I am just taking two steps back, don't want any friends exploited, but the biz is coming to SA none the less.

Lol goofd ramblings this morning, nuff respect @greenkush  keep it BLAZIN!

A quote from my friend regarding Cannabis and HIV/AIDS. "It lets me live a normal life bradah, just like a normal person".

I hope they're not supplementing cannabis in place of antiretrovirals though.

      Aweh gromies.
Been planning around this idea for a while now. Seems a natural evolution from a smoking carpenters' point of view.
Today the creative juices were just right.
The material was retained and cured from the 2022 outdoor grow.
She weighs is at a miniscule 179gr.
      Comments and ideas are welcome.

      Hi there!
I am currently doing my MA in anthropology at Unisa, focusing on cannabis policy in South Africa. The process entails interviews (and participant observation where possible) with stakeholders form a diverse intersection of the South African cannabis context including, growers, sellers, govt policy makers, entrepreneurs, NGO's, representatives of indigenous knowledge systems. If you would like to participate and make a contribution to the research in the form of an interview, please send an email to cannabis.res.dev@gmail.com, and we can set up a meeting.
See the attached informed consent form for more information on study parameters.
Most interviews will likely be done over a digital platform like Zoom/Skype for the sake of convenience.

Also, participate in the poll, it's anonymous.

I look forward to hearing your perspective on cannabis policy in South Africa.
      Kindest regards,
      Etienne
