Well im an outdoor organics grower

Only had abit of experience with a small indoor grow of just 2 runs and i was running CFL in half a cupboard 🤣🤣

Lighting depends on the amount of floor space you want to cover , as well as budget not only for the light but for the electricity to power said light

LED lights are very popular these days and give you more light output per watt used generally

Start with your budget and we can go from there, otherwise it's pointless us recommended 10K lights 🙂

How many Watts per meter squared if I use Full spectrum LED.

Havent Really thought about a budget yet.

Depends on the LED, if you're going quantum boards you can do 30-35w/psf, what is the size of your grow area and do you plant to utilize the entire space?

Sorry..

Would it be safe to start in small pots after germinating call it 1 gallon pots and transplant to bigger pots as they grow or would this not be recommended?

Okay, what do you intend your final pot size to be? (yes you should transplant, I start small once thee root's are established they go to their final pot)

Well again ive never really attempted any sort of hydro

But yes starting in smaller pots - with soil atleast - helps me control the amount of water the seedling has around it versus over watering a huge pot with a tiny plant that cant use all that water

I usually start my seedlings after a soak in polystyrene or plastic party cups , they get their first and final transplant to 20 or 25l after about a week or 2

Hope this helps abit

coco and soil are essentially identical, one has nutrients and the other does not.

When I grew some small plants for a friend I soaked the seeds in a glass for 24h. Then put them into rockwool plugs, then put that plug into a bigger rockwool block (it has a hole for a plug to fit in), then put that block into an autopot with clay pebbles.

As little as that? The HLG site basically works out to 4x 288 QB's for 1.2 sqm - unless I did not do the maths correct as their measurements are in squared feet I think.

Welcome to the 420SA forum, no need to feel silly, nobody was born walking let alone running. :-greenthumb

I have one question, does it have to hydro? In my experience hydroponics has quite a steep learning curve as to just growing some weed in a good soil mix under lights. The equipment is also usually a little bit more expensive when going hydro.

This depends a lot from person to person as what works for one grower might not work for another grower, personally I am not too technically minded so the hydro equipment is not always my first choice, I also prefer a bud from organic soil to smoke.

With that said, It is a lot easier to get started with hydro than it used to be, a lot of good suppliers making equipment and nutrients more available in SA.

There are good hydro growers here on the forum that can will certainly help.
