Hey man i know this was a while back, did you manage to get your light?

    Sup bro,

I know the reply is way overdue lol but yes I did receive the light. It was shipped to me quite quickly. I didn't get to use it much as i stopped growing for a while due to personal circumstances. Trying to get back into it slowly now again

  2. Howsit all,

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all who responded and provided some very valuable information :-greenthumb

I ended up going with a KingBrite J series 240w LM301H with UV+IR (https://tinyurl.com/j240wUVIR), yeah I know it was not even part of the options above lol

Managed to pick it up for USD185 incl shipping, which worked out to about R2600 when I placed the order.

I just felt with the Meijiu boards there was not enough 660nm and UV+IR diodes. The KingBrite has 136pcs 660nm, 8pcs UR and 8pcs IR

Will post back when the light arrives in October.

This is just going to boost the red a bit.

It would be more beneficial if you were to get additional 660 + 730 diodes. This would boost red and photosynthesis.

Thanks bro, this got me doing a bit more research last night on 660nm + 730nm

From what I gather the 660nm helps boost red for flowering and the 730nm helps wake up or put the plants to sleep faster.

730nm should be used 10/15mins before and after the mains lights switch for the sleep/wake up effect.

If 660nm + 730nm is used together then this help with photosynthesis and also reduces flowering times.

Please correct me if I am wrong, there is a ton of info out there with so many varying opinions.

My issue now is that I cannot get the boards with only 660nm + 730nm

If I want the 730nm diodes I will have to go with the original board I posted.

    This has reduced 660nm diodes:

Unfortunately, science says that LEDs do not emit UV-B radiation which is beneficial to plants and most living things in moderation, and only output moderate UV-A light which isnt as useful to plants, and absolutely zero UV-C which is the dangerous UV spectrum. UV is best supplied using additional supplemental flourecent tubes designed to output UV-B. so the UV diodes are a small waste as technology isnt there yet.

and the IR is useful for flowering plants who use large amounts of red light to grow... the red also increases vertical growth which can be good or it can be bad if you arent aware of this fact.

all in all, its better to have them than not have them - but you dont neeeeeed them

Bro! Thank you for this, exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I think they caught me with the marketing tactics lol

I am happy to go with the normal boards + 660nm

Would have been nice to have, but if its not going to make much difference then would rather get the extra 660nm pieces.

  5. Hi All,

Looking to get a new light for my recently purchased tent.

    I have a 2x4 Mars tent and currently running a ModuGrow 90w + 2x 30 ModuGrow diy boards.

Looking to upgrade to a new QB from Meijiu and have been offered a light at a good price I think.

    https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Meijiu-Qb288-Lm301B-288-Board-240W_1600273410022.html?spm=a2700.12243863.0.0.117c3e5fUPT0w8

Looking for any input or advice regarding this light, I can get it with shipping for $176

Any concerns or am I over thinking this? lol

    Kind Regards

  6. Howsit bro!

I have used a mammoth tent in the past, a small one, quality is pretty decent but mine also had some light leaks on the zipper. If you properly line up the zipper strip in the inside(not sure if you know what i am referring too) then it solves the issue. Didn't really come with any extras either.

I have recently bought a mars hydro tent, I see they have a new version available which is the one I got. I love this tent. Feels super solid and much better than the Mammoth.

When I was looking I was deciding between, Mammoth, Mars and Secret Jardin and BudBox

SJ was too expensive for me so I went with Mars over the mammoth as the Mars had extra height. I am so glad I went with the new spec Mars tent, I really love it.

Came with 2 floor liners(Don't know if I just got lucky), a patch repair kit and a hangable pouch for inside the tent and some awesome stickers lol

I also like that the mars has metal connectors vs the plastic ones that come with the mammoth.

I have no advice on the budbox though, was also an option for me but could not get any solid recommendations so decided against taking a chance.

  7. Thanks for the write up man, very informative and helpful.

I have been running these lights for quite some time now. He use to also sell the spares when he first got into the scene and I picked myself up 2 of the DIY boards and he threw in the heatsinks for free.

I see now he no longer sells the DIY kit or drivers separately so I have purchased one of the 90w lights, I really don't have any complaints wrt these fixtures, they are well priced and pack a punch.

The only issue I have is that they are a bit too wide to fit into a small tent properly, as you mentioned, but will be perfect for something like a 1,2m wide tent.

    I want to run 2 of these in a Mars Hydro 1.2m x 0.6m x 1.8m

Yeah it was after trimming lol

She had to get chopped a bit early, had to go to DBN and had no one to look after her, plus a bit of reveg started so was forced to chop. Still a great smoke and even better high IMO I just had a bong now lol:-bongit

I have one more seed left, planning to start it when I get a bigger tent.

Aaah, I didnt know that. Thanks for the heads-up.

I just grabbed some mulch from a stockpile in our estate and washed it then packed in on my soil.

I was planning to get some perlite but perhaps I'll just get some coco over the weekend. Fortunately, I watered before I placed the mulch on top of my medium

If you want to keep using mulch then I would recommend Hydroton aka clay pebbles, does help quite a bit to retain moisture and an added benefit is the top soil does not shift around when watering the plants.

Try to get the smaller pebbles so they pack tighter together than the larger pebbles.

  10. @Freshlypicked I am using the Umya range, but I just have the 3 basic ones, Pot Radix, Pot Grow and Pot Flora. I use those in conjunction with EM Pro Soil and am really loving it. Super easy to use and at that price point I think I will be sticking with this range for a while. I still consider myself a noob when it comes to growing so I'm in no position to "recommend" the brand especially since I have nothing else to compare to, but I enjoy using it and it works for me.

Agree with you on this one. I absolutely enjoyed the blueberry glue. I have my last seed and don't want to plant it out lol don't want to lose the strain as they not for sale anymore. Hopefully as totemic said they will be available again in Q2, so waiting patiently here lol

  12. What up peeps,

Time for another update, Autos are doing well. There really is nothing to complain about with this grow.

I'm actually finding it a bit boring if I was to be honest lol I prefer LST and topping and all those fun things, so for me popping a bean and just adding water takes away some of the fun of it.

I have 3 unknown auto beans left and will start them in the new year. I will probably try to do some LST on those ones and see how that goes.

  13. What up peeps,

Been busy with normal life and didn't get a chance to update until now. The autos are both doing well. The UA1 is doing exceptionally well and is around 55cm tall now, the UA2 is still quite short and don't expect her to stretch much more.

    Hey man.

Yeah the FF soil comes pre charged and can keep the plants going for a while before needing to feed any nutrients. I like to feed only microbes for the first few weeks then start with very light feeding. I only up the feeling if I notice the plants need it. I'm no expert but its working for me lol

Feed with water for a bit and see what happens from there. Just keep growing man that's all that matters. Took me a couple tries to finally come right with autos, I'm even speaking too soon, I didn't make it to harvest yet lol

  15. What up gromies,

Update on the Unknown Autos, they seem to be doing well. Did a bit of light defoliation on the UA1 and UA2 to open up the lower bud sites.

Nothing much to complain about with this grow they seem to be moving along happily.

I gave them a light dose of Umya Pot Grow. I noticed the first pistols yesterday so for me the exciting part of the grow starts... watching the buds form :rastabanana

  17. What's up man,

Some nice strains you got going there, really keen to see how they turn out.

I really hate to be that guy and I mean no disrespect or anything but to me your plants look like they having a bit of a tough time getting going.

I personally find autos a bit tricky and usually stay away from them (I'd even rather do a fem 12/12 from seed lol), however recently I scored some autos on the cheap so decided to try my luck at autos again.

I realized with my previous autos I wanted to give them the world and always fussed over them and made sure to get them every nutrient I could afford, this was my downfall as I now realize with autos, less is more.

So for this run I am using the KISS method(Keep It Simple Stupid) and I can honestly say I might have a good harvest from these autos, still early to tell but this round my autos are still alive after 27 days and still looks green lol so that's a good sign.

I started them in coco plugs and then into 10L pots with FF Premium soil after they sprouted. The first week or so I only fed them EM Pro Microbes and let them feed off the soil, around the 2nd week I started with a very light dose of Pot Radix to boost the root growth and now I will start with Pot Grow. I think I noticed some preflowers on them this morning so will continue with Pot Grow for another week and then switch to the Pot Flora.

My advise to you would be to hold back on the nutes and the coconut water for a few watering's and water with PH balanced water or if you have microbes you can add that. I'm just concerned that if you 41 days into your grow your plants might not have time to recover and get as big as they could.

You can take a look at my grow here if you like:

  18. I also struggle with this quite a lot lol

I have found a way to remember it now much easier, I changed the spelling of "Potassium" in my head to "PoKassium" so the "NPK" abb becomes true for each letter.

    Nitrogen

    Phosphrous

    PoKassium

Its stupid but it works for me :sillyass

My other issue, which is worse actually, is Sativa vs Indica, for the life of me I cannot seem to remember which is which lol

i dono... my tent temps havent been nice... the past heat wave pushed my temps way high, into the 30s and my plants are pretty close to my lights less than 15cm at some parts, i should actually raise them again i think.

anyways. saying that, i dont feel thats your issue.

    likely a lack of something.

    what are you feeding with?

Just feeding with EM Pro, Umya Pot Grow + Pot Radix. Light doses for now as she is in FF premium and didn't want to over do it

    looking good bro!

not sure what issues you encountered as your plants look great!

keep up the great efforts man!

    Thanks man appreciate it.

Yeah a bit hard to tell from the pictures. The big fan leaves are curling downwards and they feel a bit stiff sort off, also some browning on the edges. I'm saying heat/light stress as the temps are at 28 in the tent and lights are pretty close to the tops, the leaves being covered by the big fan leaves are perfectly fine as they get some shade from the direct light.

Normally when growing fems I do some LST so the tops are not so close to the lights.

  21. What up 420Fam,

I'm a long time reader of the forum but don't really post much as I'm more of an introvert and usually prefer to keep to myself. I have been growing for a long time but would still consider myself a "noob". Started off growing in a PC case ages ago when extreme stealth was still required lol Thankfully things have changed and now I'm able to grow out of a tent. Not the biggest tent, actually its meant for germination (Mammoth Prop 90) but its what I have and its doing the job currently. Currently vegging indoors and flowering outdoors. I am in the market for a new tent if I can find stock and at a decent enough price so I can do a full indoor run.

My plants are already on the go and are at around the 22 day mark since going into the coco plugs. I don't usually grow autos as I have not had much success but the seeds were cheap enough to play with. They are exactly what the title states... Unknown autos so basically all I know is that they are autos but the strain is unknown.

    Details of Grow:

    Tent:                              Mammoth Prop90 (900 x 600 x 600) (Veg Only)

Growing Medium:       Freedom Farms Premium Classic

    Pots:                             10L GrowBudz Fabric Pots

Nutrients:                     Umya Pot Radix, Pot Grow, Pot Flora

    Additives:                     EM Pro-Soil, Seagro

    Seeds From:                Groen Seeds

    Breeder:                        Unknown

Strains:                         They shall be known as: Unknown Auto 1 (UA1) and Unknown Auto 2 (UA2)
