Thursday 05/08/2021 33 Days since flip to 12/12 light schedule. Light problems sorted and ladies looking well on track. Even starting to see them getting a little frosty. Have a lekker day out there everyone.

Tonight I used the Wood Vinegar, Plants, 1, 2, and 5 weeks into flowering. Smell of the product is good, unlike Neem or Sulfur, and I almost instantly feel hungry now, but not for for any old food, I crave smoked meats I'm not expecting any issues when I view the girls tomorrow, and will report back after their first dose.

Day 6 of Week 13 Update They got both 2 liter 1/3/4 (Fish Mix/Bloom/Top Max per liter) and 4ml Amino Boost per 10 liter. Also gave the plants a Serenade spray.. they need a bit clean up ^^ Not very resistant to PM. Tarryn Sisa

Epsom salts is not for treating Calcium deficiency. It’s Magnesium Sulphate, made up of Magnesium, Sulphur and Oxygen.

They got their last neem spray tonight.. With lights off Their last sulpher spray.. From next week, if needed. I will continue with Serenade.. Soaked them with some microbes and kelp water and took some more fans that was in the way.. Had to sacrifice two branches that was going to cause issues later on and they are sure sticky and smelly.. @PsyCLown these are great insights regarding wood vinegar. Perhaps we should put up a separate post on wood vinegar so as not to go too off-topic here... Meanwhile, it is very important that one: - only uses bamboo / reed or oak when making wood vinegar - distills the wood vinegar properly Raw wood vinegar will separate out into 3 layers. The bottom layer generally has most of the wood tar, which we use as a wood preservative and to seal wood. The Vikings sealed their boats with pine tar made in the same way. The top layer contains any terpenes which may be carried in the wood. This is why bamboo and/or oak are preferred. Pine contains pinene, which is not great for other plants, even though pinene is also a cannabis terpene. We only collect and sell the pure, distilled middle layer. We have had quite good success with using wood vinegar on a range of plants, including cannabis. However, I am grateful that someone as dedicated as @The_StonedTrooper is also testing it thoroughly now.

For foliar Epsom, I would go no more than 1/2-1 tsp per 5L. So I bought some small baking scoops, they come in 1ml / 2,5ml. They graft well, ill fill the 1ml and smash a 1L spray bottle.

Aug 4 Day 82 of the grow Day 32 of 12/12... 3 days away from half way to Valhalla? For the readers with OCD wondering why I don't have the plants in numerical order... your time has come. From left to right: 1, 2 and 3. Ninja cam view- left to right: 3, 2, 1. Last night they got watered with some worm tea. Worms have been munching avo for a month so this is like worm tea that went to private school. Started at 10ml per 1L water and will up strength to 15ml and 20ml per 1L water assuming no adverse reaction. #1 - frostylocks - definitely the frostiest of the 3 at this point: #2 the runt of the 3 however bud development picking up here too. Besides the purple leaves, this plant is generally a lighter shade of green than #1 & #3. #3 doing her thing. Pistils on one of the heads have started going orange

A small set back for the organiser/s of the Garden Route Cannabis Festival. All the damn sample packages for the judges were confiscated and Leon Meyer was put into holding cells for 2 nights before he was released. The show will go on. That, however, is actually the description from IMDB for the TV program In Search Of Monsters but it seems appropriate here. I'm looking to grow a monster of a tree that could serve as a Christmas tree at the end of the year if things go well. This journal will document the journey. So the game plan is to take one of the Tortoni clones in the veg tent outside when the sun comes around in Spring, with a headstart into veg. End goal is a 200L pot and have 10L, 15L, 20L, 30L and 80L options to get me there. 80L is the biggest I've grown in so this could/should be a personal best for me in terms of growing a tree, especially with the headstart. In the veg tent, we have our clones: 12 Tortoni's - I took 6 cuttings each from Tortoni #1 & #3 from the 2021 indoor grow-off. Despite my noobness at cloning and it getting pretty cold at times I somehow have all 12 cuts alive, albeit to varying degrees of strength. I'll take that as a win, and beginners luck but I'm sure it actually has a lot to do with working with quality material. Something about these @Totemicgenetics having an incredibly strong desire to live - kudos where it is due Biggest plant you see here at the moment, right-centre in this pic is a Critical Churchill seed I had left lying around. The rest are the Tortoni clones. Those 3 in black single plastic pots in the tray were the first to root and are clearly the most developed of the clones at this point. So the two males are evicted.. Very nice looking plants.. They outside till I can collect a small ammount of pollen and off to the composter they go.. The other girls are now starting to enter pre flower it seems..

Eish, until the plants get burnt... again. I've been there and done that. Burnt plants from sprays which are meant to help is no fun. As long as you keep it on the lower side, shouldn't be too much of an issue. If you get burnt plants, it's a lesson and do not go that strong again.

Remember I am using a combination of things, including Beauveria Bassiana and Metarhizium to help get rid of the root aphids. Both of these are fungus which work for killing pests as well. The fungus is the pesticide in this case, along with some neem and spinosad which do not affect the fungus. If it was just trichoderma and/or mycorrhizal fungi, then sure. Getting rid of pests would be more important than keeping the fungi alive. Although, how effective is it at getting rid of pests? @The_StonedTrooper I think for this findings you may need to go out of your way to get some pests, to test it out on. lol Thrips, spider mites maybe even some aphids if you can find. No clue where you'd find said pests though.

I will most certainly do a findings thread, for the Wood Vinegar. The flower room will be getting this spray only, and will see what unfolds. For the root aphids, yes you might hamper the growth or life of the fungal bacteria in the soil, although we cant be sure how much, and as this is also a soil conditioner, it cant be all that damaging. You'd have to decide I guess, what is more important, killing the root aphids, probably some fungi and having a harvest, or the opposite. Which is worse? Would it even help? My preferred test method will be for foliage spray and not for the soil.

Soo, some friends and I were discussing mixing of the GHE / TA TriPart nutes. One mentioned they were told to add the Micro last. The Grow Guru website states to add the Micro first. I personally never paid much attention to the order I mixed the nutes into the water in, so I decided to reach out to GHE (now Terra Aquatica) to see what they have to say and this is the response I received from them. A bit different to what my friend was told years ago and to what Grow Guru say. Personally, I'd rather follow the advice from TA directly as they're the ones who make the nutes and should hopefully know the best way to mix it. I think this might make more of a difference to some of the other 3 part nutrient mixes as they may not chelate the nutes the same etc. Thought I'd share this with everyone EDIT: A few minutes after I posted this thread, I got another response from someone else at TA stating the following. So a bit contradicting, but William states the order is not important as long as you mix it well before adding the rest of the nutes. He prefers to use the micro first. I mix it in whatever order I feel like on the day, never noticed issues to be honest.

What The FCUK? T1 & T2 clones busy rooting my side for the sole purpose of being planted into 100l boxes in the shade house. To be honest, the Tortoni might have to fight for their space against the Haunted Kush Cake seeds left over from a previous grow. Looking forward to this summer doing a rerun on a variety of @Bay Seeds , @Totemic and @Daggafontein Genetics as part of my apprenticeship. Closing off this thread. 8 weeks, 5 weeks since pollination, and the girls got the chop, hanging to dry. While #1 certainly is the frostiest, she has a dirty gassy tone to her terpene profile, I bet she will smoke well. It is #6 that has the ice-cream terpene profile I'm after. She is also a yielder, while #2 has a dominant sour lemon vibe. Let's see how they turn out when dry. Looking forward to working with the F2s as soon as the seeds are dry in what is going to be an extensive hunt. Didn't really take any pics... Seeded bud isn't really photogenic This is #6 And just for the hell of it, a clone taken from #1, day 22 of flower, and already pollinated.... Not only rooted, but is developing seeds and starting her reveg process That concludes my first project for the year.

Day 35 Mid flower update. Not much happening. Seeds are developing well.

I think don't LST, the time left till flip and end of comp won't allow them to get much bigger even if you grow a christmas tree shape. LST will only set you back another day or two

Day 21 The view of the remaining 6 yesterday afternoon. Had them out of the tent for a good inspection. 2 more have been cut. No13, the outlier from the start is just a weak plant, while no11, is showing its hermie nature quite oddly, pushing growths along a fan leaf stem, but nevertheless has been cut. Wherever there is abnormal growth in that nodal area its a clear indication of the hermi trait. Even though those arrowed growths are showing only pistilate and not a single ball sack yet. So that leaves me with No1, 2, 5, and 6. Their side views. All virtually the same height at 70cm. No1 No2 No5 No6 And of course let's not forget the male. He is now reached his peak at 6 weeks of flower. I have been monitoring his development, deciding if I want his pollen. He produces copious amounts of pollen, pushing a fair amount of resin glands... Overall a lekker male. Something that many aren't doing. Don't grab the first pollen that your male gives. Grow him all the way out and check him out. As always I don't collect and use pollen, but always a live male, so he is joining the remaining 4 in the tent for only 2 days before going to reveg. That's more than enough time to ensure a full pollination. Wish I had a better camera to better capture some of his features I like. The view of the 4

Day 14 All 6 are still around. They've been moved to a new space where they will finish up. Cleaned up a lot of the lower growth. It seems I have a purple pheno among them. Also added some predatory insects I was gifted by @GreenGrow Garden Route I don't have any mite issues but prevention is better than a cure I guess.

For veg they have been pretty consistent with a shorter expression, but remember that I have forced the tight nodal spacing with light. As they progress through stretch the different or similar heights will be clear. Males, even from a similar pheno group tend to exadurate their main cola to get that pollen as high up as possible

Thanks for the tag @John A My foliar intervals is daily Monday- Friday. Weekend they get no spray as I'm so busy I hardly enter the grow room. My experience with Epsom only came about January this year. After having a friend battle with yellow plants, he tried epsom, and in 5days his plants looked brand new. I tested it on my healthy plants and holy moses of treetrucks was I shocked. - Whoever hasn't tried it, don't be skrik just read the box and you'll be sold. For sprays I use the following, at absolutely random intervals, they all do good and I don't claim to have a scientific recipe for success. I also spray to a soaking wet degree. - Cannaleaf FPJ - Indigenous Micro Organism (self made) - Banana/Mango FPJ - Fulvic (no idea what it does, just that plants love it) - Epsom obvs - ExploGrow, added into every single mix. - Plain water some days to "clean" the leaves off For IPM - Neem Oil - Gets Sprayed every 2nd or 3rd mix I spray after work as I've learnt spraying in the morning makes the leaves burn. Lights needs to be on for a good couple of hours before spraying. My spraycan of preference is the 750ml types, lekker small and easy to get in all nooks and crannys. One full can lasts about 2-3days of spray. *I don't measure PPM, Dosages or anything. Breaking head over Dilution ratios and milliliters is not my type of disco. I feel the room, be the room, vibe the room.

Yeah, I would approach these girls differently if I was pushing for max yield, although they'll probably still hit a good yield. To me it's important to illustrate that when you are pheno hunting, it's one thing to saturate a space with as many little plants as possible in tiny pots and push single colas on a stick of a stalk if you are only interested in a floral outcome. To me pheno hunting is more a whole plant experience, with its natural expression fully expressed. Part of breeding is also being ruthless with plant selection. On this run only 2 males are still around, and 9 females, so 11 of the 25 left. Any one or more of these girls could go hermi on me in the next few weeks, or show traits I'm not interested in. I may not even find a keeper this round. I may find a few.

Yeah preflowers are easily distinguishable as male or female at 31 days from seed. This is a seed run to get me to the F2s, where the real pheno hunting begins. This is a stable F1 generation, but the F2 generation may or may not present with unfavorable traits. Selecting for pest resistance is actually quite low on my selection list. My selection is intuitive, involves look, feel, smell, growth patterns. This male selection on this run will be my 6th consecutive selection on the chocolope NL lineage. I've learnt what my males with that lineage generally pass on to females. Males add a lot more than people generally think.

Finally got the chance to repot the 1l into 5l, and clean up the bottom 2 nodes. Flipping in a few days...

Almost a month old. Going to be flipping in a week or so, and cutting plants from the run as they progress through stretch.
