For anyone that may have been following... I gave away my Inzane Bush... It because too much for my small space, so I took some clones and donated the tree to a mate to run for next year's outdoor season. Hey guys, Thanks a million for the warm welcome! I'll be posting some grow logs on the forum as well, just a bit crazy at work at present, but keep an eye out for them. I've also got some interesting stuff to share with you guys, from how I built my own custom LED lights to my own little automated 12V backup/failover lighting and air extraction system to help keep my plant happy during the loadshedding woes. My wife and I are also in the process of either selling our flat or renting it out, so once we've moved I'll also be getting into outdoor growing (my flat doesn't have a yard or suitable balcony) and since I love DIY, I'll be building my own little greenhouse, etc, so I'll be sure to share my journey with you guys, I'm also looking at upping my indoor plant count now that we know what the Cannabis Bill entails... Remember, its not the lumens or watts which count when we are looking at a light for growing, its the PPFD. Not all LEDs are equal in terms of their output (PPFD), so 200w of LED is not 200w of LED. Just because there are 2x LED lights of which both draw 200W and may have the same spectrum does not mean they will perform the same or provide the same PPFD output. While you may be able to build that light fixture for under R1k, it does not mean its going to be the best value for money - chances are it's going to be very inefficient at turning your watts into light which the plants are able to make use of. However this thread certainly shows us that there are light options available at under R1k which will work for a grow. I feel the purpose and point of a forum is to have a discussion, any member who is looking for a budget light and sees this thread now has more context as to what may be a suitable option for a grow light if their budget is around R1k and hopefully they will gain more knowledge and a better understanding of everything. Morning everyone, Looks like the few sick ones have gained a little more traction and are looking much better (1st 2 pics). Those are the same AK x CM that were looking iffy in the photos above. The last 2 photos are of what the rest looks like (excuse the yellowish hue the lights give off in the last 2 pics, they are darker green in reality. Also I messed some DE on the GSC plant in the last pic - not PM or anything like that). While they were definitely over-watered once when I flushed, I actually think that did alot of good too. There was a 0.7 difference on the EC from runoff to what went inside, and that tells me that the Atami High Porosity Coco has quite a bit of additives and is hotter than I once thought (I only fed very tiny amounts of nutes before that, so was surprised at the difference). After the flush they all perked up a bit and continued to become better. The spots and wilty symptoms occurred before the flush or any foliar sprays, which tells me that besides a little overwatering, there was something else going on in the beginning too. But that seems to be resolved now as can be seen in the new growth. I also think that genetics on the AK strain were messing me around a little, since most others are looking just dandy. Looks like we are back on track. The other guys involved in this grow are happier now... Kippie over here has to do all the research LOL :D As always thanks to those who shared knowledge/experience/advice. You okes rock

So always has been a heated debate. I have personally flushed before - with plain water and with chelated stuff such as florakleen. I have also not flushed and I no longer flush. I feed my plants up until harvest. I stumbled upon this video, still busy watching it but a bit of research has been done on it and so far quite interesting. So far it seems as if there isn't much of a difference, I find it interesting though that with the terpene percentage, there certainly seems to be a trend though - could be coincidence. The longer the plant was flushed for, the lower the percentage of terpenes. However it's still a minimal difference and how noticeable it would be, unlikely I feel.

Greetings 420 fam So as promised, here it is. For anyone that's growing and hand-watering their plants, this is for you guys. This is a simple project that I've completed in minimal time while sitting at home trying to make life easier, lol. For those who want one, but don't have the resources or time to make their own, I am willing to make the kits by order (excluding the container) and make them available for purchase in the classifieds section - which is why I've decided to exclude the pricing list. They will be cheap though, no worries. I hope you guys understand, just trying to make some extra moola during this lockdown. Anyway, enough of that. Let's get into it[emoji41] What you will need: - 5mm PVC tubing (I got 3m to be safe but it can be done with a shorter length of tubing) - An adequately durable and sharp scissor - 5 x 5mm screw/barb adapters - 1 x 5mm micro tee - 1 x 5mm micro choke - 2 x 5mm regular adapters - 1 x 10L plastic container w/tap - Hot glue gun (we gonna use a really small amount of glue) - at least 2 x small cable tie straps Now that we've got that out of the way, here's the build. Creating The Main Ring - At the base of your tree, use an end of the PVC tubing and hold it in a loop around the main stem, creating a circle of the diameter you would like. Use the scissor to cut the desired length of tubing. - Insert the micro tee into an end of the tubing and close the loop Making it into a Drip Ring - Cut out/poke 5 holes spaced out well on 1 side of the tubing that are slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw/barb. - Shorten the screw side of the screw/barb adapter so that it doesn't damage the opposite inner wall of the tubing once it's screwed in securely. - Use the screw side of the adapter and try to push it into the gap you've created while you rotate the adapter to catch thread. Screw the adapter in until the plastic base is flush with the tubing. Do this for all the holes you created. The plumbing - Cut a length of tubing a bit longer than the distance from the center of where your pot will be to the corner of your tent. - Connect one end of the tubing to the choke valve and the other end to the micro tee on the drip ring you've just created. - Cut a length of tubing long enough to reach where you're going to place your container/res. - Attach one end f this tube to the free end of the choke valve. The installation - Use one of the cable tie's to secure the tubing to the grow tent pipe slightly higher than the level of the drip ring on the soil. - Strap another cable tie just above that, securing the choke valve and holding the tubing much more securely. - Open one end of the drip ring and place it around the base of your plant than reconnect the tubing. You can face the drippers upwards or into the soil, I went with upwards so i can notice any flow issues. We're almost there! Just a few things left. The Res I know this isn't a traditional res in growing terms, but its function is definitive. - Cut one side of the regular adapters off at the base as shown below. - Place the modified adapter at the outlet of the tap as shown and hot glue it into place effectively, not leaving any gaps. This is so that your precious nutes don't drip all over the floor once you open the tap. *Be careful not to cover the barb of the adapter that's sticking out with glue or else you will have trouble with the next step* - Cut off a short length from the free end of the PVC tubing and attach a regular adapter to one end, then attach this piece to the adapter sticking out of the tap. - Mix your nutes, fill the res (please make sure the tap is closed, lol) and place it somewhere higher than the choke valve. - Attach the free end of the PVC tubing to the adapter pipe on the res (this is the pipe and point at which you will connect and disconnect when using and storing the system to prevent breaking the tap adapter). *The higher you have the res, the more force the water will flow with* Adjust your flow - Open the choke valve the so that it barely lets anything through, then open the tap on your res (open the res tap slowly to prevent anything blowing out due to the sudden change in pressure) *Check For Leaks At This Step* - Adjust the choke until the nutrient mix has a slow, steady flow out of all the nozzles. This is subjective though so set it however suits you the best. Just like that... Boom, your very own semi-automatic watering system. The only issue with this prototype design is that the res doesn't completely empty due to its shape (a major part of the reason I'm leaving it out of the kit), but there are ways to solve this. I plan to make a commercial version available once I find a decent shaped res with a siphon pipe to ease flow and empty the res. I'm also in the process of designing another (pressurized) system so the res can be kept on the floor along with some other improvements. Send me a private message for any questions or orders.

Here's what mine looks like so far... Need to get my Al plates drilled and tapped, then it's time for a jack and assembly! Need to find me some compression springs to put between the top steel plates as well.

The highlight is that there is no statistical difference so basically whether you flush or not is entirely subjective to the user. It's kind of like those dude's that pour vodka over a specifically cut diamond because "it enhances the flavour". At the very least you're saving on a week or two of nutes if you do flush If this is the case, flushing is solely a method of rinsing out your medium in case of a nutrient lockout or incorrect feeding.

Update time. My tomatoes. As you can see they're blooming. They were my test subjects for my auto run. Feeding all Biobizz nutes. My succulents. They have grown a lot. Need advice as to whether I should repot them. My big leave Spekkie. Had a fight with caterpillars and aphids but Bioneem and Pyrol solved that. My Lavender - severely underfed here in the beginning. The brown flowers are growing again and I messed up with the chillis. Too cold I think.

PM, short word, we have serious PM in the Cape region. And you want to get your plants clean BEFORE you hang to dry. A budwash with bicarb of soda works but only if you had it on your leaves only... very difficult to get your buds clean clean with a wash. Working system to get them proper clean... Serenade Garden disease control. You have to import, but it leaves zero taste on your buds and cleans PM rather fast and well. For heavy infected plants, spray several times a day to a good run off and open your buds up soft by hand and wet the buds properly. I do those sprays during the 2 days dark. Havent lost a batch since i got my bottles I prefer my weed over dried then under dried. My Bovedas in general add moisture. And if i had a bag in a bad jar, the bag goes to the dumpster like the weed on the compost heap look that your storage jar are properly disinfected.

I don't have the space or the terrain for Hugelkultur which was a suggestion for my grow. I don't have access to the space or ingredients for making living organic soil and I'm a cheap skate. I am going to trust that the mountain has made a magical organic fynbos soil, rich in whatever the plants will need. I will possibly add some bokashi bran when I plant, but I need more info. I will inoculate with mycorrhizae harvested from further up the mountain in fynbos roots. I will feed with solutions that contain kelp juice, Lactobacillus, castings and chicken manure, as well as a sprout tea (containing alfalfa), and monitor that. If I need more I will come back to the drawing board for nutes. That soil is dark and loamy and so far it has held water so well that my sprouts have only needed a tablespoon of water each in the styro cups (holes in bottoms to drain) in 3 days. I think that given the fact that the gardens are in a retaining wall on the mountain slope, the rock underneath the soil will be a source of moisture from mountain run-off too. The same water from a borehole will do the rest. Update on the gals - all three have popped cotyledons.

i dono man, every bone in my body just cringed at the thought of 35x15w of outdated inefficient lighting. you could get ready built ACDC flood lights that have a better spectrum, lower heat output, better canopy penetration, better efficiency per watt.. https://www.acdc.co.za/products/220-240-150w-cool-white-led-alum-flood-light-ip65?variant=32751529689165 150w for under 400 bucks. and sure, 150w is very shy of your 525w, and 400x4 is quite a bit heftier than your sub 1k light. but please bruh, trust me when i say i would rather bet on the 150w LED fitting to outperform the CFL setup. 2x 150w light fittings for 800 if you want a landslide victory.

So @Prom and @Batista pretty much covered it. You want to slow down the drying process by controlling the humidity. Having a tent or small enclosed space helps as the water weight from the plants will increase the humidity. So a small extraction fan (PC fan works well) connected to a controller wit ha RH sensor of sorts is ideal. Since its warming up, low temps aren't really an issue and unless you have an AC controlling the temp isn't easily achievable. However high temps will ruin the terpenes, so you want to try keep the temps low too. Below 26C preferably. Do not dry out your bud too much, I personally prefer to put the bud into a jar with Boveda and have it increase ever so slightly above the Boveda pack humidity and let the boveda bring the RH down. Whenever I have dried bud too much and the Boveda has had to increase the RH, the bud has ended up harsher than the rest - even after months of sitting in a jar with Boveda packs. I base my drying on the RH in the drying area vs the ambient RH, the snapping of branches has never worked well for me. I also do not really burp jars, if the bud is a bit too wet when I jar it, then I leave the jar open for a couple hours and continue to do so until RH is around where I want it. Burping daily is too much of a mission for me, I don't have time to do that. The drying process can make or break your weed.

Hi everyone, I haven't seen a thread of this nature on this forum so I guess I'll just start one. I am sure that this would be usefull especially for people that just started or are about to start using cannabis for whatever reason. Surely many first time users will never use cannabis again because they overdid it and their experience turned into anxiety and/or paranoia instead of laughter and joy. Which consumption method would you recommend for first time use and why? Also what do you do when you find yourself being "too far out". Let me start. I think a little vape or smoke is the way to go if you're new to cannabis. The effects come on way faster than with edibles and therefore it's easier to find the sweet spot you're most comfortabel with. When I get too enthousiastically and accidently consume too much there’s one thing that helps big time and that is foooood.

@TheUltimateNoob Cfl's are 30% less efficient than led's. But they are about half the price of an led. Its just about keeping it under a R1000. This cheap R1000 any store 525w cfl = 367.5W LED.

I do live in the Heldeberg basin @Fridgedoor, so I am open to splitting orders. I spoke to Seeds For Africa and they said 250g seed to 22 litres of water. They told me that 440 seeds make up a gram. So if they sell packs of 5000 seeds for R38, that's 11 g. So that's 23 packets of seeds if I'm not mistaken..... and would cost R847! That's a lot of money I sent Agricol an email. I just don't know if those seeds would be treated with chemicals that might not be ok for organic grows. The SFA seeds are dusted with organic growth hormone. Maybe I should negotiate with SFA and see if they would be willing and able to supply bulk at a better price. I might just have to buy what I need each month because I'm ALWAYS skint. Let me know if you are able to find another source. I sent SFA an email asking for bulk discount. Let's see what they come back with. UPDATE - ok so Kelly at SFA says that they sell bulk packs as follows, so I reckon we are sorted. If you would like to share, we could order 500g and split that? My humble experience. I don't do the vape thing at all, so only joints/blunts and edibles. My partner had never experienced cannabis when we met. She was interested, but didn't want to smoke as she is a serious long distance runner. So one Saturday morning i made some canna-butter and proceeded to whip up a batch of french toast with crispy bacon and honey. GREAT IDEA, i thought... Wrong, the meal was potent! and she had a really hard time. It took months before she was prepared to try again. I feel that if she had just had a few hits then like she does now, it is easier to feel out how baked she's getting '. Eds are difficult to dose, especially if you don't know what the content is. Guess the same goes for vapes, you can control how baked you're getting. Cool topic, i hope to read more peoples ecxperience.

I agree on your statement about why forums are there. Maybe theres a bloke with a shit load of cfl's.. At least now he can experiment and maybe come up with a light for a interim solution while, he or she, saves up for a more appropriate settup.. In the spirit of 420 we can all give our opinion and input. With a tight budget not all of us can grow with the pro's but at least we can have a puf of our own home grown.. Shit or not...

Sounds like a good plan. I think there’s too much growing stuff out there to spend money on anyways. I am convinced you can grow some decent plants with the additives and soil you've mentioned. I myself plan on using SST to and want to use alfalfa seeds. Where do you get your alfalfa seeds?

I’m using one of these flood light (warm white) with 4 T8 LEDs attaches to it (cool white) as a veg light. Total draw is 222w (questionable because I added numbers on the box ☝) also wrong spectrum for vegging ☝ And this thing works better than my previous 600w metal halide. Believe it or not

Why don’t you use LED bulbs??? Might be more expensive then... hmmm I’m all for happiness etc. but this forum is like this. People are straight. I think it’s also passion, everybody is passionate about their growing experience and and... how much you are willing to accept that you’ve maybe wasted time and move on will be your own defining factor. not saying your light doesn’t work. I’m sure it grafts quite well bud However the technology is very very different.

Howdy Greenies [emoji41] Day 40 into flowering and I'm happy with how the girls are enjoying themselves. No issues and my Sonoff for humidity is helping, no PM yet as per previous grows. The smell of the OKC is amazing, buds are dense and loads of thricomes. GSC is big but not as dense yet. Sapphire OG is also dense and I like the lighter brighter green she shows. Budwash is personal preference or PM control if you have, so yes you dont have to do it - but if your bud is to dry then a soak is beneficial to prolong drying

Howzit fam. Sorry been out a while. Life got abit hectic. Might be for a while. But will try to keep u guys updated as much as i can. So its update time. Week 9 day 65 Did some defoil. And started to flush this week. Should be harvesting by the weekend. This baby looks sooo juicy. Cant wait.

Broke out the 'ol tripod ( @TheUltimateNoob, @afternoon blazer ) and took some trichome and bud shots to see where we are with harvest. The outside lady (Skywalker OG) is one dirty girl dust and bugs will definitely be on the flavour profile if I don't do a wash. Will be the first time I do a bud wash so that will be interesting. I rate in terms of harvest, I think I will begin the flush, do that for a week and harvest sometime closer to the weekend. Inside we are still maybe looking at harvest at the end of the month. Buds are getting orange hairs and the aromas just keep getting better. The sugar leaves look insane and I am very happy with the progress. Good to see more of these comps coming out. The more the merrier! Happy to be corrected but isn't a true cannabis cup a competition where a breeder submits new strains/cultivars they've been working on for judging? I've noticed a few entities running "Cannabis Cups" in SA and none have stuck true to how they run it overseas. Has a proper cannabis cup been run in SA yet? I thinks it's time for us to get a proper cannabis cup going in SA where we find out who is breeding the best strains in the country. I reckon it will do wonders for developing the breeding industry in SA. They'll get exposure, validation of their genetics etc. Can't think of a better situation where we are relying on local breeders and not so much on the breeders from the US and Europe.

How many people competing you think they get? Might be a great solution to stock yourself up. ^^ If you put for 50k prices out and have 2kg weed send to you you made a killer income.. and lets face it, people send you their best Might be a great idea.. stop growing and just organize a Cannabis Cup each year to stock up again
