@kimcarsons yeah I know what you mean. I have started conservatively with defoliation and cleaning out under the net. Gradually getting more aggressive as the situation dictates.

@ajcapetown, thanks bud. Im following the schedule.

Weeks 1-2 11on, 13off

Weeks 3-4 10.5on, 13.5off

Weeks 5-6 10on, 14off

Weeks 7-8 9.5on, 14off

last few weeks 9on, 15off

Morning folks,

Update - Flower Day 20. Have been feeding Biobizz, amino - and fulvic acids. Did a couple of rounds of Pyrol to keep them clean. So far so good, reduced the light to 10.5 hrs on, 13.5 hrs off. I did some heavy defoliation, maybe remove 25% leaves where all the bud spots are developing and also cleaned out at the bottom. Much better airflow as my circulating fan is at the bottom of the net angled upwards.  Some good trichome action happening too. :-gthumb  Some picture below.

It's a jungle in there bru! Interesting to note: I would have thought the right side would be dominant under the led, from the marketing hype. The left side under HPS is clearly growing better. You're "on the front lines" there Toby- what are your thoughts?

Thanks bru. At this point I wouldnt draw any conclusions on light types as yet. There are various factors that could influence the growth pattern of the various strains Im growing. On the right side indica dominant with a shorter flower time vs the left sativa dominant with a longer flower time will highly likely display different phenotypes. Not forgetting the quality of the LED. I am using the LED to supplement the HPS.

Wow it really looks great Toby.

Sorry if I am being lazy, maybe you have mentioned it but what size is that tent and what wattage lighting are you using?

With LED, unless you go really really top end I think HID still cleans up.... but that's a topic all on it's own haha.

Thanks bud, I haven't mentioned in this thread my set up. I have a fairly basic setup. My tent size is 1.2mX1.8mX.07m. My medium is organic (own mix) and my lighting is 400w digital ballast HID with air-cooled hood + a 180w LED multi spectrum as supplementary light. 1 x 30cm box fan and 1x 6"/15cm extraction fan with a passive intake. Im running lights on during the night and off during the day.

Thats stunning! They look so healthy and just loving their environment. How did u find the veg stage with this lighting schedule? Not sure if u may have mentioned it already...Was veg time quicker or more vigorous?

Thanks bud. I am definitely adopting this schedule as my default moving forward. Besides the cost savings, the plants respond positively as well. :-gthumb - I had to pot up & flip a week earlier as it was ahead of schedule.

Just looking at the numbers its a no brainer. Ill try an illustrated using ave values for calculation purposes. 8 week veg period and 8 week flower period.

Veg

Standard lighting 18 hours

Total hours for the period 1008 hours

12-1 lighting 13 hours

Total hours for the period 728 hours

Saving 280 hours thats almost 12 days of energy saved

Flower

Standard lighting 12 hours

Total hours for the period 672 hours

12-1 lighting 11 - 9.5 hours

Total hours for the period 574 hours

Saving 98 hours thats 4 days of energy saved

Total energy saved almost 16 days running continuously:-gthumb

Thanks guys. Continuous preventative actions and maintenance and not one big "clean" is the best course of action IMO. :investigating Less stress on the plant. :poke Also keeping your environment clean will make it much easier to keep pests at bay.
