Haha, hectic amount of light for that space.

Never knew the temps spike once the plants have reached the most light they can absorb for the day - learnt something new 😄

Might as well adjust the timer cycle then accordingly too, save some electricity and lifespan on your lights.

Keen to see how this turns out, in terms of weight - I have no clue about wet weight as I have never measured wet, although dry weight I am going to guess around 110g dry.

Never done a SOG myself with such small pots, so a lot of guess work here with my figure.

Well, from what've read about the temps. Might be broscience, will try anyway.

And yeah that is the plan!

Im also probably going to upgrade my ventilation, as I currently just have a powerful PC fan pulling my extraction. It works well, and by calculation it should be fine - but lets see.

  2. @PsyCLown

Will be using my Phantom Cab as per the linked post - but here are my internals:

    Internals
    Depth (mm) 425
    Width (mm) 550
    Height (mm) 1164
    m^2 0.23
    m^3 0.27
    ft^2 2.52
    ft^3 9.61

Haha @Marzcanna thanks, yeah I've run her through a few grows and she's done really well. As big as you can go for a little cabinet.

I'd like to add some upgrades this time - want to throw in an IR thermometer to get the canopy temp (also allows me to see when the plants have absorbed as much light for the day as they can - temp spikes around 2-3 degrees at this point), and a nice wideangle cam for timelapse shots

Yeah I know, the light I have is stupid powerful for my space.

Honestly I tend to go as high as the plants can handle. Which is usually around 60/70% of my light's capacity.

Let's just put it this way, light is not the limiting factor here. I know the bottlenecking of light vs. nutes vs. CO2 very well as I have planted tanks with CO2 injection - it's just doing it for grows is a lot more complex.

Update the original post with my lighting info, but here it is:

    Lighting   Lighting Calculations
COBs x Vero 29 SE 3500K   Per COB Overall
    Driver HLG-240H-C2100B   lm/w 143
    Heatsink (mm) 500x150   Watts 79 237
    Fan 92mm 12v   umols/J 1.94
Number of Cobs 3   Driverloss 10%
    FV 37.6   PPF 138 414
    Amps 2.1   PPFD 539 1618
          DLI (12h) 23 70

Basically I will dial it in to get around 60DLI - no point in being much over.

Dry is just a follow on of wet weight, guys can guess dry weight too if they want.

  5. Intro

Whoever can guess my final yield(wet trimmed) will get a set of 4 of my favorite fem'd strains

It's been a while! I've still been growing - just not posting.

Firstly must definitely shout out to @Totemic for always having great strains. Basically all my grows are from his stock.

Had an amazing bubble berry glue pheno that yielded like crazy and went a beautiful deep purple. I only have a photo of a clone I let flower in it's solo before I knew the pheno was so good (sorry no photos pf it going purple).

It made a fat xmas tree nugget, which was kind of the inspiration for this experiment - mind you my hands are 23cm from palm to finger tips so that is like 12cm bud that is around 8cm wide - dont have the weight of it because I forgot to record it in my journals.

I thought, why spend months in veg and training when I could do some SOG with much quicker turn arounds - and amazing looking buds??

    Growing Areas
Flowering chamber will be my Phantom Cabinet, details here:

Vegging will be minimal so I will do it in my space buckets (design you can see here):

The buckets have done some pretty impressive grows just by themselves - not quite on par with the cab but close enough to be surprising.

I now have 2 buckets - I will be using two for the vegging of clones and perhaps a third for the mother.

    Lighting (thanks @CreX)

    Lighting   Lighting Calculations
COBs x Vero 29 SE 3500K   Per COB Overall

    Amps 2.1   PPFD 539 1618
          DLI (12h) 23 70

I'll be aiming it for 60DLI (late flower) using a lux meter and then doing conversions shown above. Should be around about correct.

    SOG Setup

I drilled into a plastic tray to hold 12 solo cups, just a side note when using a 76mm holesaw on a powerful drill: very easy to break your wrist if you do it wrong.

    Growing Medium:

For medium I will be using FF Classic, but I will be enriching the water (lightly) I use with some NPK to make sure they dont run out of nutes.

    Nutes and Auto-Watering:

For watering I am still busy building the system, but basically the same concept as an octabubbler, except Im going to take a bit of PVC pipe and stick a bunch of 5/6mm irrigation hose connecters into it (12 to be exact) and have each solo cup connected to one.
I will be using a pump with a wifi switch to auto water them. I will start with once every 3 days and as the roots develop move the timer to once and even twice a day. (I'll adjust depending on how the soil looks)

Nice thing about the cups being elevated is that they will drain freely prevent buildup.

    Genetics:

6x Bubble Berry Glue (@Totemic) if my clones are ready in time

6x Sugar Cane Deluxe by In House Genetics from seed

    Concerns

Will still be about a month before flower starts at least - probably longer. Want to try get two grows in before October

Logic here is that while the plants are in the last 4 weeks of flower I will already have clones growing that will be ready to flip into flower as soon as I harvest the first batch.

Yields - no idea so curious to see what you all think!

  6. You can always force hermie and create feminized seeds if you're short on space. It is what I will be trying this season.

Helps a lot to be able to essentially shut down your operation during summer months and always have a backup for your favourite genetics.

    • Thanks 1
  7. Aaaaaand we are back!

    Keep your eyes peeled.

Busy bringing some clones up to speed in my custom designed space bucket. Must admit I was super impressed with it. Managed to pull a decent harvest out of it with very inexpensive materials. Probably spent less than 1k and had LEDs, wifi enabled light and fan controls, and it was completely stealth. Just looked like a stack of two buckets!

Also, I ended up with about 300g of dry weight at the last grow - sorry I didnt update with pics. But it was a monster of success. I had something like 9 of the big console jars full. Really I dont see how I could need more space than the bucket to supply myself at these rates!

While the grow in the bucket didnt yield nugs as big as in the cabinet, they were pretty good, and they smoked the same. Makes me wonder if there really is that much credence in my high powered LEDS.

I'll be growing some White Widow (ye olde classic) and Super Skunk Kush thanks to @highchome

I will hopefully be expanding the selection, I'd like to grow at least 3 separate strains this time around, and get my femm'd seeds going as I dont have an aircon to really keep plants going during the summer months, having seeds I can restart from in autumn is ideal. My previous attempt at femm seeds failed completely, plants ended up not hermie'ing

    And thanks @Stinger96

Did you smudge out your reflection in the glass jars? I mean, probably a good idea... but it looks so weird! xD

Anyway, I've been enjoying your journal, keep it up comrade! :)

Haha thanks Danny, yeah I did. Always super cautious. Being paranoid doesn't work in reverse, it just takes one slip up.

Think I was a little early with putting my bud in Jars, humidity is at like 84% even with the humidity packs.

Currently have the bud spread out on a tray with a big CPU fan blowing over the lot. Will do this for a few hours today, and see what my readings are in the jars tomorrow. If they are still high I will repeat until I get the 62% RH

  9. Im a very light smoker, I probably wont use this in my entire life lol. Most of it will be gifted to friends.

I just really enjoy the process.

I've attached a picture of the 4 jars. I am using Boveda two way RH 62% packs to keep the humidity perfect during curing. Takes the guess work out and reduces burping once they are stable.

I did break up the bigger colas, as there was one that was 150g - which was a risk to dry and cure in one piece.

I'll take some pics of the buds after curing!

I did sneak a smoke in - and it's great!

Got a berry flavor that is rounded out nicely, fruity.

It has a pleasant mix of body and head high, I'd say it's mostly head high with a nice onset of body relaxation if you go with it.

I was euphoric, social, and relaxed. I'd be careful with non-smokers as I think they could easily chase the rabbit on this one as it is quite strong, an experienced smoker will find this both energizing and relaxing at the same time. While less experienced smokers may get caught up in the initial rush and become anxious.

The clones are now split between the space bucket and the cabinet. I am going to force hermies in the bucket for feminized seeds, and do one more grow in the cab which should yield around mid November - going to attempt to try double my yield in the cab (using two plants this time, and better care).

  10. So guys, I made some pretty awesome predictions

    Prediction: Harvest on F80

    Result: Harvest on F81

I trimmed one small nug a few days before and did some guesstimation based on it's weight vs the remaining volume of buds

    Prediction: Wet Weight 410g

    Result: Wet Weight 413.7g

    Prediction: Dry Weight 144g

    Result: Dry Weight 137.6g

Ended up with 134.4g after trimming stems.

They are currently in 4 large console jars and I am curing - humidity sensors in all the jars.

  11. Are you talking about the mad jack thats finishing off? If so, then she should be on clean water for the flush to finish. Otherwise if its another plant post up a pic so we can see what you are seeing.

    Thanks for dropping by :)

I don't plan on flushing. All evidence that I've seen for flushing is anecdotal, smoother taste etc. Which some of the more critically written pieces attribute to other things that a grower does as they improve, such as proper curing.

  12. Huh, turns out you are right.

That's a really weird combo seeing as their grow formula has 22.5g/kg which is less than half of the micro?

    The ratios are weird.

However, that being said, my plant has no issue whatsoever.

Maybe it's why my flowering period has been so long lol...

A side note I do see they have micro for coco which has elevated levels of Mg and Ca

  13. Hey something must be off if you are burning that late into flower with those ratios.

Are you sure you are not confusing Grow with Micro? Micro and Bloom have almost no N in, specifically to limit it during flower. No idea how you are getting N toxcitiy.

I think you were also looking for calmag right? Your Micro dose is so low I am not surprised you'd have calmag issues

  14. Yeah I have a temp probe in my canopy - running my lights at around 70% (3x Vero29 3500K COBs being driven at 2.1a).

My canopy temp is around 2 degrees hotter than the probe at the pot level.

  15. wow, what an amazing grow! she looks awesome

i too am in coco-perlite and using the EGH nutes, but struggling quite a bit with feeding 42 days into flower, would you mind sharing your nutrient schedule?

    Hey

So it's pretty simple, currently I am watering every morning as the lights come on:

    2ml/l of the Bloom

    1ml/l of Micros

10%-20% run off - had no problems in about F82 now.

  16. Clones are happy and the growth is exploding, check out the difference in the last 13 days. Growth has definitely been slowed by the cold weather. However the bucket is doing an amazing job for the price and time it took to assemble.

I have been very impressed with it, completely stealth, perfect ventilation, and the LEDs are perfect for their purpose.

Took a bunch of photos of the trichomes, eat your heart out, my guess is about one more week before harvest.

  17. If you're in Coco you shouldnt have any issues with over watering.

I feed everyday in coco with no issues

Pure coco will retain more water than soil.

OP has mixed 30/40% perlite which should help. My concern was actually way more about the plastic pots as they don't breath well - even with holes.

It would make sense that it only an issue now (mid-winter). It is colder, so less evaporation happens off of the soil medium, and the plant transpires less because it is cold. Which means the plant pulls less water out of the medium.

To give an example, I have other plants I grow in plastic pots. I had to water them everyday in summer, and only once a week at the moment - I actually killed a plant by water twice a week at the moment.

However, it could be something else, the only way to really test is to see if the same thing happens to the fabric pots in the same circumstances
