DAGGA CULTIVATION FOUND IN BELLVILLE WARDROBE

Bellville police on Tuesday found pots with dagga plants as well as a "big" tree being grown from a suspect's wardrobe.

Captain Fienie Nimb, spokesperson of this police office, said: "On 2 December at 20:00 the crime prevention unit received an anonymous tip-off about a possible dagga plant standing in a windowsill in a block of flats on the seventh floor.

"On arrival at the flat the members spoke to the owner of the flat. He confirmed that his son liked to plant plants, but he was not aware that it was dagga," Nimb said.

She said the officers found one pot containing three dagga plants on the window sill. It was, however, when they continued their investigation of the premises that the officers found the "big dagga plant inside a wardrobe in the son’s room", Nimb said.

"It was connected to a water filtration system and globes were fitted to heat the plant," she said.

The plants were confiscated and the 26-year-old man arrested and sent to court for dealing in dagga, Nimb said.

The two constables attending to the arrest were Lindall Ockhuis and Johnay Fielies, Nimb said.
